2-Year-Old Sings the STAR WARS Imperial March Theme in Her Crib

0
0

You know you're raising your kids right when they start to sing the Imperial March theme from Star Wars. The video of a two year old in her crib was posted by her dad, Jonathan H. Liu, and this is what he had to say about it:

"We watched Star Wars with our kids recently, and our toddler (2 and a half) really enjoyed the bits she saw before her bedtime. One of her favorite parts: the Imperial March. Here she is singing it to herself in her crib (as seen through the baby monitor)."

Looks like she's well on her way to eventually joining the dark side. By the time she's a teenager she'll be using the dark side of the force to fight her parents. They don't stand a chance.

In all honesty, though, this is so damn adorable.

Ron Perlman Has to Get Stanley Kubrick to Fake The Moon Landing in Trailer For MOONWALKERS

0
0

"Do you really want to go back to your boss and tell him that you don't have Stanley Kubrick and you don't have the money?"

I think you’re really going to dig the story that this new comedy Moonwalkers is going to tell. The movie stars Ron Perlman and Rupert Grint, and the plot is based around Perlman’s character getting director Stanley Kubrick to secretly direct the moon landing in a studio. As I’m sure you’re aware, Kubrick faking the moon landing is actually a real conspiracy theory. I think it’s absurd, but it looks like the concept will make for a fun comedy adventure.

Moonwalkers was directed by first-time filmmaker Antoine Bardou-Jacquet, from a screenplay written by Dean Craig (Death at a Funeral). We have a red-band trailer for you to watch below. Here’s the synopsis:

What if Apollo 11 never actually made it? What if, in reality, Stanley Kubrick secretly shot the famous images of the moon landing in a studio, working for the US administration? This is the premise of a totally plausible conspiracy theory that takes us to swinging sixties London, where a stubborn CIA agent will never find Kubrick but instead is forced to team up with a lousy manager of a seedy rock band to develop the biggest con of all time, in this riotous, high-tempo action-comedy.

The movie is set to be released on January 15th, 2016. It looks like a fresh and creative movie that audiences will enjoy.

The love Disney fans have for their princesses will never die — it will only grow stronger with every new fan that is born into the world. We've seen a ton of Disney princess fan art in the past, but this Disney-themed cake takes things to a whole new level.

This cake shows off Disney princess superheroes locked in an epic battle with the villains. It was created by Richard’s Cakes for a Cake International show. I guess it's not really surprising to learn that they brought home a Gold Award for their work. Check out some more photos below!

Review: THE BIG SHORT (AFI FEST 2015)

0
0

Writer/director Adam McKay is outraged that banks got away with tanking the world economy, and by the end of The Big Short, you will be, too.

An adaptation of Michael Lewis' (Moneyball) nonfiction book "The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine," the film tracks the few men who see the imminent collapse of the economy coming before anyone else. There's Michael Burry (Christian Bale), the heavy-metal loving hedge fund manager with a glass eye and a serious lack of social skills. In 2005, he pores through thousands of bundled loans and comes to the conclusion that the housing market — always thought to be rock solid — is going to start to crumble in 2007. So he bets against the banks for over a billion dollars, scaring his investors and drawing a lot of attention on Wall Street. Deutsche Bank trader Jared Vennett (Ryan Gosling, who breaks the fourth wall and narrates the film) notices, and sees the potential in Burry's ideas. Through the magic of a wrong number, he ends up going into business with Mark Baum (Steve Carell), a perpetually angry funder with a strong sense of justice, a loud mouth, and a traumatic past. Also in the mix are Charles Geller (John Magaro) and Jamie Shipley (Finn Wittrock), two upstarts from Colorado who recruit former Wall Streeter Ben Rickert (Brad Pitt) to help them get a seat at the big boys' table so they can bet against the system as well.

Considering how convoluted the ins and outs of the subject matter can be, simply trying to explain exactly how the crash happened can be tough, and even though McKay may not always succeed, he uses a number of techniques to make his case, including the brilliant and hilarious use of celebrity cameos. Every time Vennett introduces a concept deemed too tough for the regular moviegoing crowd to understand, he briefly stops the movie and has a different celebrity pop up to explain that specific topic. (I won't ruin them for you — they're one of the movie's highlights.) These moments are sure to brighten up anyone who may have started to glaze over at all of the financial terms being thrown around. Outside of those few explanations, I often found myself not understanding exactly what the characters are talking about. Here's the thing about that — it doesn't matter. McKay does such a good job of communicating the gist of these economic ideas and allowing the audience to read the situations through his characters' reactions to things that you don't really need to grasp all of the minutia in order to follow the narrative arc or enjoy the movie.

The Big Short could be viewed as a companion piece to The Wolf of Wall Street, and though it doesn't revel in excess as much as Scorsese's latest opus, it at least brings the same manic energy. McKay employs an editing style different than any he's used before, intercutting quick clips of news broadcasts, music videos, popular songs, and still images of regular Americans both to show the passage of time and the people who are ultimately affected by the actions of these characters. (Though the constantly roving camerawork of cinematographer Barry Ackroyd nauseated me by the end.)

The film builds to a crescendo of outrage as everything finally falls apart, with no consequences for the banks. Carell and Pitt's characters are the only ones who seem to understand that the fact that they've bet against the U.S. economy doesn't only mean that they'll make piles of cash when the system goes down, but that this is going to have global ramifications that put hard-working American taxpayers out on the street. The final few minutes are the gut-punch McKay has been building toward since the end credits of The Other Guys. The movie can admittedly feel a little chaotic at times, but you can feel McKay's indignation coursing just underneath the surface, pulling everything together and propelling the story toward its conclusion.

Bale is great (at this point in his career, I'm more surprised when he's not), working in isolation as he blasts music and scrutinizes computer screens (that glass eye effect is extremely convincing), though he vanishes from the story for a while as Carell and Gosling's characters take center stage. Gosling seems to really have fun with his character, a guy with an appalling haircut and the type of personality another character compares to that of a car salesman. Pitt brings some humanity to the movie with his character's outsider perspective, reminding the two young up-and-comers that real people's lives are in the balance. But it's Carell that stands as the film's moral compass, and he gets most complete arc of any character. Funny, energetic, and ferociously entertaining, The Big Short announces the arrival of Adam McKay as an incisive, dramatic filmmaker who shouldn't be viewed as just a "broad comedy guy" anymore.

TOY STORY 4 Adds Oscar Winner Patricia Arquette

It's safe to say Patricia Arquette is having a pretty good 2015. The actress won an Oscar early in the year for the culmination of her twelve years of work in Richard Linklater's Boyhood, snagged a lead role on a network TV show with CSI: Cyber, and now The Wrap reports that she's been added to the cast of Disney/Pixar's highly-anticipated upcoming sequel Toy Story 4.

The outlet says Arquette will be playing a new character in the Toy Story universe, a "laid-back mom who's described as a hippie." Sounds like Arquette could pull that off in her sleep. Super fans, answer this for me in the comments: did we ever hear what Bonnie's mom sounded like at the end of Toy Story 3? I don't recall. Do you think Arquette could be playing Bonnie's mother, or might she be someone else entirely?

John Lasseter is returning to direct, and Rashida Jones and Will McCormack wrote the screenplay from a story by Lasseter, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, and Lee Unkrich. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are returning to reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz, respectively, and I'd wager a whole bunch of the series regulars will be back as well. We know this movie will be a love story between Woody and Bo Peep, who was absent from Toy Story 3, and that it won't be a pure continuation from the previous storyline. Toy Story 4 opens in theaters on June 15th, 2018.

New Info on The Starkiller Base and General Hux in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

0
0

The hype for Star Wars isn't going to die down anytime soon, especially with all of the stuff that Lucasfilm is releasing and all of the cast and crew talking about the new movie. In the process, they've all managed to keep any major story info under wraps, which is really surprising in this day and age.

Some of the things we've recently posted about it on the site include a new TV spot with lots of new footage; J.J. Abrams talking about Luke Skywalker's mythos in the story; and some new details about Lupita Nyong'o's Maz Kantana and Andy Serkis' Supreme Leader Snoke.

Now, thanks to EW, we have some additional details on the deadly Starkiller Base in the story that was teased in the poster. While talking to the site, Abrams confirmed that it is indeed a Death Star follow up saying:

“It is very much — and it’s acknowledged as such in the movie — apparently another Death Star. But what it’s capable of, how it works, and what the threat is, is far greater than what the Death Star could have done. Starkiller Base is another step forward, technologically speaking, in terms of power.”

There's no doubt that we'll get to see that power demonstrated in the film. Domhnall Gleeson's character General Hux is a high-ranking member of the First Order, and there a possibility he could be the guy in charge of managing the Starkiller Base. When talking about his character, the actor says:

“There’s an air of superiority, and being better than those people around you. He’s pretty ruthless. A strong disciplinarian would be a mild way of putting it….You don’t get that high up in your life that quickly unless you’re pretty ruthless. You have to put a few people down on the way to get there.”

Gleeson goes on to reveal that, even though they are on the same side, he and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren are at odds:

“He’s kind of opposite Kylo Ren. They have their own relationship, which is individual and unusual. One of them is strong in different ways than the other. They’re both vying for power.”

I'm already excited for this movie, I already have my tickets, but all this new information that is being released in interviews and trailer is only getting me more and more excited! Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit theaters on December 18th. For much more information on the film, click here.

Artist Creates Stylized Illustrations of Movie Characters' Outfits

0
0

You just have to see this interesting series of stylized illustrations of some of the most popular outfits worn by movie stars in productions such as Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, The Terminator, and more.

Fred Birchal, a Brazilian artist from Belo Horizonte, has decided to experiment with the regular looks of well-known characters’ costumes and redesigned them in what I’d like to describe as "geometrical style." Somehow these proportions reminded me of the graphics of those video games from the '80s or '90s developed by Nintendo EAD.

Printed copies of Birchal’s images can be purchased online from his Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the “Hollywood Costumes” exhibition. There is also a deck of cards with the artist's variants of the outfits.

Look the illustrations over and share your opinion below.

New Trailer and Poster For THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT

It's time to enter the wasteland...wait, no wrong movie. May the odds be ever in your favor...no, that's not right, either. I actually haven't seen any of the Divergent series movies myself, but if you've seen one entry in this modern resurgence of the dystopian post-apocalyptic teen adventure genre, you've kinda seen them all, haven't you? It's almost comical how much this new trailer for The Divergent Series: Allegiant (via Buzzfeed) looks like a parody of other films of its kind, complete with mega-serious Jeff Daniels intoning about how Shailene Woodley is the chosen one.

I'm (mostly) teasing, because these movies clearly aren't meant for me, and that's totally fine; I genuinely hope those of you who dig them will find a lot of enjoyment in this latest installment. The Divergent Series: Allegiant arrives in theaters on March 18th, 2016.

After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known in order to find a peaceful solution for their embroiled city. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.

Here's One of The Most Insanely Detailed Pieces of STAR WARS Art Ever Created

0
0

I realize that headline makes a bold claim, but I'm confident that Andrew DeGraff's new piece lives up to that praise. The artist, whose work we've featured on the site a few times before, is known for creating extremely intricate, unique pieces that trace the journeys of film characters throughout every location in a movie. His latest painting, a staggering work that will be on display at this weekend's Art Awakens show at Los Angeles' Gallery 1988, follows the path of every Sith Lord and Jedi Knight across every location in every major vehicle in all six live-action films so far. This took over 600 hours to make! That's like if DeGraff had worked on it for 25 days straight, all the way through with no sleep. If you're in the L.A. area, be sure to stop by Gallery 1988 to see it in person this weekend. I'll be there tonight for an opening night party, so I'll try to have a little write-up posted about that soon.

Putting in over 600 hours of work (!!!!), Andrew DeGraff absolutely KILLED it with this painting for #ArtAwakens. This...

First Look at Jeff Nichols' Sci-Fi Chase Film MIDNIGHT SPECIAL

0
0

One of films I'm looking forward to the most in 2016 is Midnight Special, the studio debut from Take Shelter and Mud director Jeff Nichols. Information about it is hard to come by, but knowing how great Nichols' previous work has been, combined with a cast that includes Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Driver, and Sam Shepard, there's a good chance it could end up being pretty damn good.

Entertainment Weekly has the first look at the film with a photo and a teaser poster, and a quick comment from Nichols himself about the type of influential movies that he looked to when making this one:

Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., Starman, they were my inspirations — very propulsive journeys that work when you can’t predict what’s going to happen next,” Nichols says. “This is my sci-fi chase film.”

I know that's not much to go on, but it sounds great to me. Midnight Special hits theaters on March 18th, 2016.

WARCRAFT Gets an International TV Spot

I don't care what anyone thinks: Duncan Jones' Warcraft movie looks freakin' amazing! It seems to me like he's made one of the greatest video game film adaptations that has been made to date. It's definitely one of the most epic and ambitious. I think the people who say that the CGI work on the film looks cheap are crazy. In the end, that's not what matters anyway. What matters is having a strong story, and from what I've seen and heard, I think Jones nailed that down.

Legendary Pictures and Universal Studios have released a new international TV spot for the film for you to check out. It's basically a more condensed version of the first trailer that was released, but it's still worth watching if you're excited for the film.

In Warcraft, based on the Blizzard Entertianment’s epic videogame series, the peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.

You can check out our exclusive interview with Duncan Jones here if you haven't read it yet. He goes into depth about the film and also talks about growing up a gamer. You can catch up on all of our other news for the film here.

The film stars Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky, and Daniel Wu. The movie comes out on June 10th, 2016.

Marvel Wants Michael Douglas To Return For ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

0
0

It looks like Michael Douglas will return to reprise his role of Hank Pym in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Douglas had a big role in Ant-Man, and it makes sense for his story to continue, especially if one of the plot points in the film revolves around Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lily) trying to find Pym's wife Janet. There's no official word on if that's what will happen, but it seems that's where the story of the first film was going.

In an interview with Collider, Douglas reveals that Marvel Studios has contacted him that they are ready to start negotiating a deal:

"I just got a call recently – they want to negotiate for a sequel and I thought “That’s great!” Hopefully, I won’t have to carry quite as much expositional dialogue as the first one but I had a wonderful time doing it. Just a great, great time. The cast was fantastic. Paul, Evangeline, Michael Pena – I’m sure he’ll be back. If they can scrape Corey Stoll off the wall, I’m sure they’ll want him too – he’s such a good villain. And Peyton too. It was a lovely experience, so you know, I welcome it. I chuckle about being involved with a movie that already has a release date in 2018... It’s hard to conceive of that, but it’s all good, all the way around, it’s all good."

It's good to know that he had such a great time making the first film and that he's excited to return. I wonder if we'll see Pym put the suit back on. It would definitely be cool if he did! I can't wait to see where this sequel takes these characters.

Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters July 6th, 2018.

William Shatner Wants to Make a 50th Anniversary STAR TREK Musical

0
0

With the 50th anniversary of Star Trek coming up next year, Gene Roddenberry's classic space series is going to be getting plenty of tributes and special treatment, most notably in Paramount's Star Trek Beyond. (A new TV series is also in the works, but that won't debut on CBS [and then the network's streaming service] until 2017.) The show is on the minds of fans, studio executives, and even former stars of the series, as former Captain James T. Kirk William Shatner told The Guardian that he wanted to get his own anniversary show off the ground, possibly even as a musical:

“I’m attempting to sell a 50th anniversary show, but so far I’ve had very little luck. Maybe because Paramount’s going to do their own – but I don’t know how they can do their own without me. I’ve never been contacted.
“I’ve been actively trying to do a 50th anniversary show … We had a big company say: ‘What about a musical or a music variety show?’ That got some traction – but nothing’s come of it yet.”

A Star Trek musical has the potential to be decent, but I think Shatner himself would probably need to refrain from singing to ensure that's the case. The dude is in his mid-eighties at this point, and we all know what his most famous rendition of a song sounds like:

What do you think? Would you watch a Star Trek musical? Should Shatner sing in it if it actually comes to pass?

The Nintendo Direct Super Post — Everything You Need to Know

Watch: Teaser For IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA Season 11, Coming January 2016

0
0

In its off season, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has stayed alive with two trailer mash-ups that use the audio of the catchy-as-hell song "Dayman" from "The Nightman Cometh" episode in the show's fourth season. It's hard to believe that episode debuted almost seven years ago, or, for that matter, that Sunny has remained on the air for this long. I bet even the creators themselves didn't foresee it becoming the cultural phenomenon it has over the years, and this brand new trailer for its eleventh season looks to continue the antics of Dennis, Dee, Charlie, Mac, and Frank. One of my favorite lines in the series is when Charlie asks the lawyer if he wants to "go toe to toe on bird law," and this trailer contains a combination of birds and law that I can only hope is a reference to this moment.

Season eleven airs on FXX starting on January 6th, 2016.

Review: CRAIG DRAKE: VOLUME 1

0
0

Craig Drake is one of my favorite artists on the pop culture scene right now. We've featured his work plenty of times on the site in the past, and his distinctive, geometric style is full of sharp angles and lines that disappear into the distance, drawing your eye across his pieces in a dynamic way.

He's collaborated with the awesome Los Angeles-based Hero Complex Gallery for a new book called Craig Drake: Volume 1, which you can purchase right here. Most of Drake's art is accompanied by a story from a super-fan, fellow artist, or HCG's own Adam Smasher talking about that individual piece, but it's the art that really commands your attention, and rightfully so. His work is so damn cool-looking, and aside from the design elements, he's exceptional at recreating likenesses of humans, vehicles, and dragons alike. As a bonus, there are often examples of alternate versions or works in progress on display that we wouldn't otherwise normally be able to see. (A few cool Star Wars examples are highlights, including a solo study of Princess Leia and a piece depicting the iconic Battle of Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back.)

For those of us who can't afford to cover our walls in Drake's jaw-dropping artwork, the second-best option is to have some of his coolest pieces collected in a book you can pull out and longingly admire whenever you want. Here are just a few of my favorite pieces that appear in the book:
