First Photo From Upcoming ARROW and THE FLASH Crossover Episode

Arrow and The Flash have another crossover episode coming up, and executive producer Marc Guggenheim has released the first photo from it. One of the coolest things about the image is that is offers fans their first look at Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) together. Barry also seems to be wearing some interesting looking...power gloves?

Stephen Amell previously talked to Zap2It about this the upcoming crossover, and how it will introduce the main characters who make up DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. This is what he had to say:

“Last year was designed so that if you were a fan of one show or a fan of the other show, you could enjoy 108 of ‘Flash’ and 308 of ‘Arrow’ independent of one another. In fact, most of the ‘Flash’ episode takes place in Star City, and most of the ‘Arrow’ episode takes place in Central City. We have a common villain, which was not the case last year, and just in general, we’ve done an excellent job of weaving not just two shows, but three shows together.”

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg talked a little bit more about it:

“Just conceptually speaking, one of the ways we thought of these episodes, in sort of a macro sense, was that ‘The Flash’ episode this year plays more like an episode of ‘Arrow’ and the ‘Arrow’ episode plays more like an episode of ‘Flash.’ We look back and thought that those ‘Flash’ and ‘Arrow’ episodes were the biggest things we’d ever done. Now we have more heroes, more people with powers, more mouths to feed and bigger villains. It’s really exciting.”

It's always fun to see these two series crossover with each other, and this next one is shaping up to be something epic, especially with the new team of heroes coming together in DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The episode is set to premiere the week after Thanksgiving.

The Ultimate Movie High Fives Supercut

I think one of the greatest high fives in movie history comes at the very end of 1989's Tango & Cash, between supercops Ray Tango (Sylvester Stallone) and Gabe Cash (Kurt Russell). The whole movie leads up to this moment because they both attempt to high five each other multiple times throughout the film but are interrupted for various reasons until the final moment, which is apparently recreated on the front page of a newspaper for some reason? And who the hell high fives by interlocking their fingers? It cracks me up every time.

As you might be able to guess, I was very glad to see this moment of cinematic lunacy pop up in World Wide Interweb's new "ultimate movie high five supercut." Sure, there are the classic Top Gun moments that everyone knows will be in here, but you might be surprised at some of the other movies that made the cut. Check it out below:

New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Footage Will Debut on ABC This Week

Personally, I've seen all I need to see when it comes to Star Wars: The Force Awakens marketing. I've seen the official domestic trailers, but I skipped the international one that popped up recently and I'm going to do my best to avoid the onslaught of TV spots that I know are going to be littered across TV networks until the movie's release. I'm already sold, and I'd prefer to go in with a few surprises left to experience in the theater.

But there's a large percentage of fandom who prefers to see as much of the movie as possible beforehand, poring over every new frame and getting exponentially more excited as they see more and more and more. If that sounds like you, I have some good news: ComingSoon points us to an announcement that ABC is going to air an exclusive "special look" at The Force Awakens this Thursday night, November 12th, at 8pm. The cast of Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder, and Grey's Anatomy will be hosting the special, and you can see a brief look at the teaser below:

New Honest Trailer Amusingly Tears Apart TERMINATOR GENISYS

"It goes back in time to murder the only Terminator films you actually enjoyed."

Terminator Genisys was definitely a film that had some issues, but regardless of those problems I actually kind of enjoyed the movie for what it was. I thought it was definitely better than Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation! That's not saying much, I know, and Screen Junkies had a heyday with it in their latest episode of Honest Trailers. These guys obviously didn't like the movie at all, and they amusingly tear it apart.

Arnold is BACK - and worse than ever in the disappointing prequel-sequel-reboot-spelling error that is: Terminator Genisys!

Scarlett Johansson's GHOST IN THE SHELL Sets Pilou Asbæk as Male Lead

Variety reports that The Borgias and Borgen star Pilou Asbæk has been cast as the male lead in DreamWorks' Ghost in the Shell film opposite Scarlett Johansson. Asbæk actually appeared on screen briefly with Johansson in last year's Lucy, playing the skeezy boyfriend who forces her to deliver a package that kicks off that film's story. Here's a brief synopsis for those who need it:

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “Ghost in the Shell” follows a female special ops cyborg who leads an elite task force called Section 9 for Hanka Robotics. Section 9 is devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, led by The Laughing Man whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka’s advancements in cyber technology.

In Ghost in the Shell, Asbæk will play a character named Batou, the section's best fighter and the army's second in command.

Rupert Sanders (Snow White and The Huntsman) is directing, and I'm very interested to see what he can do since Snow White is the only feature on his resume so far. I thought that movie had some decent visuals, but its script was sorely lacking; hopefully Straight Outta Compton screenwriter Jonathan Herman will be able to make sure this story is better this time around and give fans a worthy adaptation of the manga, anime, TV shows, and previous films.

Asbæk will soon be seen on the next season of Game of Thrones, and he'll also be playing Pontius Pilate in the upcoming Ben-Hur remake.

Ghost in the Shell arrives in theaters on March 31st, 2017.

Similarities Between GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and FARSCAPE

$

Superheroes, ill-tempered characters, peacekeepers, and guardians of galaxies. Do these sound familiar? I bet they do.

Last year we finally got our dose of cosmic-based comic book movies with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy. However (and here I should probably capitalize every single letter in the word), it was extremely financially successful but was received by some with mixed feelings. I personally thought that the trailer gave away the most interesting scenes and moments of the movie, so at the end it wasn’t anything special but a simple reinforcement of what was depicted in the short videos. Yet director James Gunn seems to be positive enough and believes in the success of the Guardians’ story, as the second part is already confirmed for release in 2017.

But the point here is quite different. While watching the film, I kept thinking of something else that was very similar to the adaptation of the Marvel comic books, but I still couldn’t figure out what it was...until today. Farscape. That was it!

The science fiction TV series incorporates ideas and characters' profiles which are somehow reflected in the ones seen in Guardians of the Galaxy. The latter really shares some spectacular similarities with Farscape. For instance, we’ve got a human who inhabits a world of strange creatures. Then we have a heroine who is simultaneously attractive, strong, and independent. And we also got a small character who, despite his size, has collected the whole hostility and nastiness in the universe.

Surprising or not, there are even more likenesses and parallels between Guardians of the Galaxy and Farscape. Here they are!

Netflix is Spending $50 Million on Bong Joon-ho's Monster Movie OKJA

$

0

Netflix established itself as a major player in the realm of streaming visual entertainment with shows like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, and have continued to increase their overall quality as the years have gone on. In fact, I'd argue that Netflix already has enough original content to justify a subscription based on those properties alone, not even taking into consideration all of the thousands of other movies and TV shows that are available to watch.

The company jumped into features in a big way this year with Cary Fukunaga's Beasts of No Nation (which I still haven't made time to sit down and watch), and now word comes from Variety that the streaming service is teaming with Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment to bring director Bong Joon-ho's (Snowpiercer, The Host) new monster movie Okja to life. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Kelly Macdonald, and Bill Nighy, and though it was originally described as a monster movie, Bong's statement about the movie makes it seem like there might not be the typical kind of carnage and destruction that fans normally associate with the genre:

“It is a bulky animal, but with a mild and kind spirit. The film is about a warm friendship between a country girl and a brute with stories,” he said. “To me, the crazy world surrounding Okja and the girl looks more like a monster. I want to depict the two characters’ bizarre journey and adventure across the tough world in an original fashion.”

Deadline claims Okja will have a budget of $50 million. That's a staggering amount for a film like this, and perhaps the coolest part is that Bong will have not only the budget he needs, but also complete creative control over the film. That's likely something that very much appealed to him after the threat of the Weinsteins cutting Snowpiercer to shreds last year. Filming begins in April of next year and is expected to arrive in theaters and on Netflix in early 2017.

BATMAN BEYOND Actors Reenact Classic Scene From THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK in Character

At the "Voices of Batman" panel at Rhode Island Comic Con, Rob Logan from The Geek Generation dressed up as Batman and asked voice actors Kevin Conroy (Bruce Wayne) and Will Friedle (Terry McGinnis) to reenact the classic scene from The Empire Strikes Back in which Luke Skywalker discovers that Darth Vader is his father.

Conroy reads Vader's lines and Friedle reads Luke's, and it's cool hearing these guys put their own spin on such famous dialogue. This is probably as close as Batman is going to get to the Star Wars universe outside of those back-and-forth photos that were shared between The Force Awakens and Dawn of Justice.

Thanks to Rob for sending this over!

These ZOOLANDER 2 Posters Are So Hot Right Now

The first Zoolander came out a few days after the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, and even though it was a clear forefather of comedies like Anchorman and Dodgeball, I don't know if it ever got its proper due as one of the biggest influences on those mid-2000s comedies. As a country, America wasn't quite ready to laugh so soon after 9/11, but we're at a much different place right now, and it might be just the right time for Zoolander 2.

Paramount has released two new posters for the sequel, which feature dim-witted male models Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) posing for selfies, which makes total sense for these guys. You can actually see them posing for a real Instagram photo below, which was only posted one day ago and it looks like they were doing the photo shoot for the poster. That's either a very quick turnaround, or the movie's social media person held off on posting it until closer to the poster's release.

Awesome Glow-In-The-Dark ATTACK THE BLOCK Poster

If you're excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens but haven't seen John Boyega's breakout turn in Joe Cornish's amazing debut film Attack The Block, seek out that film immediately because it will get you even more pumped up to see what Boyega will do in Abrams' upcoming space epic.

Attack The Block was my favorite movie of 2011 and it's easily one of the best films of the past decade, but it's such a small movie that I fear a lot of you still may not have seen it or heard about it. In my quest to get the word out and spread the word about this terrific film, I came across this awesome glow-in-the-dark poster from artist Matt Taylor that debuted on Collider. Here's a quick statement from the artist himself:

Attack the Block is a bit of an under-looked gem of a movie – that mix of comedy with genuinely scary sci-fi horror, and I wanted to do the movie justice for this release. John Boyega’s Moses is such a magnetic character, he had to be front and centre, standing down the aliens advancing on him, with the whole thing at a titled uneasy angle that hopefully calls to mind the seventies horror and sci-fi that the film is indebted to.

The 24”x18” screen print is going to be available at this weekend's Thought Bubble Sequential Art Festival in the UK before the remaining copies go on sale on Vice-Press starting Monday, November 16th. There are only 185 of these available, so make sure to act quickly if you want one on your wall. The regular version is above, and the glow-in-the-dark layer can be seen below:

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Renewed for Sixth Season

American Horror Story: Hotel is easily the darkest and most disturbing season of American Horror Story yet. This show is so freaky twisted in so many ways! For those fans hoping to see the anthology series continue beyond that, you’ll be happy to know that FX has renewed Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s series for a sixth season, which will premiere in Fall 2016.

FX CEO John Landgraf said in a statement:

“With the sixth installment coming next year, American Horror Story has unquestionably joined the ranks of television’s landmark series. From Murder House to Hotel, AHS has pioneered a new television form as well becoming FX’s highest rated show — while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity.”

They certainly have been pushing the boundaries, and it’s been a lot of fun to watch. The show is completely unpredictable and you never know what’s going to happen next.

There are no details on what the sixth season will bring us, but Murphy has already invited Lady Gaga to return. So you can bet on her coming back along with some of the other regular actors that we’ve seen in the series since it started, like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Lily Rabe.

There are so many directions that they could take this series next. I’d personally like to see them use a crazy religious cult setting, such as Scientology. Or maybe even do another period piece and set it in a small American town during the great depression. With something like that they could include people like Bonnie and Clyde, Pretty-Boy Floyd, and Baby Face Nelson. Or they could take it back even further and have an old west theme.

Like I said, there are a lot of directions they could take the show. What would you like to see?

Sideshow Collectibles STAR WARS Jango Fett Action Figure Review

$

Sideshow Collectibles has released a new Star Wars collectible action figure for Jango Fett, and they sent us one of the figures for review. The character was introduced to us in George LucasStar Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and he didn’t last very long, as he was eventually struck down by Mace Windu in combat. His legacy lived on through his son Boba and his army of clones.

Those of you who have ever owned a Sideshow figure know the thought and care that they put into the detail of these things. It’s no exception with this Jango Fett figure. They went all out on this thing and gave fans of the character something they could be proud to own.

It’s always fun messing around with these things and posing them for photo shoots like the set of photos you’ll see below. A few of my favorite things about the figure are the two different jet packs that come with it, and the jet pack flame attachments are a nice touch. The duel holster belt is another thing that really stuck out for me along with the blaster pistols. Each pistol comes with blast flare and smoke attachments.

The figure really seems to come to life when you attach the jet pack flames and/or the pistol flares and smoke. They looked really cool in the photos I took.

I ended up taking the photos at a toy shop that a friend of mine owns, and as I was playing around the figure several people in the shop wanted to have a closer look at it. These photos only do the figure so much justice, it’s only once you are able to physically hold it and play around with it that you can gain a true appreciation for what Sideshow is doing.

If you’re a fan of Jango Fett, or you're looking to collect as much Star Wars awesomeness as you possibly can, then you might want to consider this figure. It’s a great piece to add to your collection. Here’s the official description, and below the photos you’ll find the specs for the figure. If you want to order one, all you have to do is click here.

"I'm the best. Always was."
Joining the Star Wars Scum and Villainy collection, stage exciting showdowns from the final years of the Republic with the Sideshow Collectibles Jango Fett Sixth Scale Figure. Boasting a reputation as the best bounty hunter in the galaxy, the expert mercenary is ready for hire, decked out in a hand-tailored flight suit, layered belts with holsters and pouches, a hardshell armored vest, and western-style poncho. Though destined to one day become the face of the Clone army, for now Fett’s identity is safely concealed behind his iconic Mandalorian helmet, complete with articulated range-finder. Always one step ahead of his enemies, Jango is fully equipped with his two favorite jetpack models for high-flying escapades, and trademark shiny dual blaster pistols with smoke and fire attachments.
Displayed on an adjustable action figure stand with themed base art, the Jango Fett figure is a must-have for Star Wars fans and collectors!

HAN SOLO Standalone Film Will Be Lawrence Kasdan’s Final STAR WARS Project

$

As many of you already know, Lawrence Kasdan played a huge part in shaping the Star Wars universe. He co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back and The Return Of The Jedi and came back to help J.J. Abrams write Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He’s currently working on the Han Solo standalone movie with Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and it seems like that film might be the last time that he dives into the Star Wars universe.

During an interview with German paper Bild, Kasdan said this will be his last contribution to the saga, claiming that writing four Star Wars movies is "more than enough". Here are a few bits from the interview that were translated from German via The Super Naughts:

“This is my last film for this saga. […]
I did not even want to do this last one anymore, but my family loved the idea. […]
I did four Star Wars movies. That’s more than enough. […]
I want to work as director again. […]”

It’s interesting that he says he wasn’t really into doing this Han Solo movie, but it certainly sounds like he’s finished with Star Wars and wants to move on. His family did play a huge part in him taking the job, after all, he is co-writing the film with his son Jon, so it’s like a father and son project, which is kinda cool. He will pass the torch to a new generation of family to continue his legacy.

As for him choosing to get back into directing, I totally support that. You gotta go do the things that make you happy. Kasdan has made some solid films in his career. One of my favorite things that he’s done, though, is the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s Dreamcatcher. I’d like to see him do something fun like that again.

Han Solo's untitled A Star Wars Story film will hit theaters May 25th, 2018.

Marvel Studios' conceptual artist Andy Park has shared two alternate designs that he created for the Ant-Man suit. They're very different from the final design that was used in the film. These are incredibly cool designs, but I'm glad that they went with the design they ended up using in the film. It's going to be interesting to see the updated suit design that they use in Captain America: Civil War. Of course, we'll probably see another new suit design in Ant-Man and The Wasp as well. Marvel likes to update their superhero suits with every new film. It makes the fans happy. What do you think of these two unused designs?

Would you look at that?! Harrison Ford recreates his iconic Han Solo pose in one of four new Star Wars: The Force Awakens covers that EW has released. The other three covers feature Finn (John Boyega) in his Stormtrooper gear, Rey (Daisy Ridley) ready to kick some ass, and the classic droids R2-D2 and C-3PO.

These four images are just the beginning of more Star Wars: The Force Awakens coverage from the magazine. Some of that news includes some information on what's going on with Luke Skywalker, without giving too much away. According to the magazine,  "Abrams and Mark Hamill explain how the last Jedi went from hero to intergalactic man of mystery."

Stay tuned for more details as they are revealed because we'll get it covered! In the meantime, enjoy the cover photos!

3-new-promo-posters-released-for-the-x-files-trust-no-one1

Fox has unveiled three promo posters for the highly anticipated return of The X-Files. I’ve been binge watching the series again for the past month, and I’m currently deep into the  fourth season. I love reliving these paranormal adventures.

Mulder and Scully have been heavily featured in most of the marketing material for the upcoming revival, but one of the promo banners here includes both Walter Skinner and The Smoking Man. I imagine there are going to be some good times ahead for X-Files fans. it’s going to be great to see the old gang back together again proving that the truth is out there.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their iconic roles as Agent Fox Mulder and Agent Dana Scully in the upcoming event series which will encompass a mixture of stand-alone investigative episodes and those that further the original show’s seminal mythology. In the opening episode, Mulder and Scully take on a case of a possible alien abductee. The all-new episodes will feature appearances by guest stars, including Joel McHale (“Community”), Robbie Amell (“The Flash”), Lauren Ambrose (“Dig,” “Six Feet Under”), Annabeth Gish (“The Bridge”), Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”), Rhys Darby (“Flight of the Conchords”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”) and William B. Davis, who reprises his role as “Cigarette Smoking Man.” Three of the episodes are written and directed by Chris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by original series veterans Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong.

The new X-Files episodes return to Fox with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, January 24th, and continuing on Monday, January 25th.

Chris Pine and Casey Affleck Fight the High Seas in Trailer for THE FINEST HOURS

Disney has released an intense new trailer for their upcoming adventure thriller The Finest Hours. The film tells the amazing true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. The movie comes from director Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, Million Dollar Arm), and it stars Chris Pine, Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger, John Ortiz, and Eric Bana.

I love seeing crazy inspiring true stories like this brought to the big screen, and this one had a very talented team of individuals working on it. I hope it does well so that the studios keep making them. The Finest Hours looks like an incredibly good movie, I'm just not sure what the audiences interest in it is. Here's the detailed plot summary:

On February 18, 1952, a massive nor’easter struck New England, pummeling towns along the Eastern seaboard and wreaking havoc on the ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a T-2 oil tanker bound for Boston, which was literally ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly-sinking stern. As the senior officer on board, first assistant engineer Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) soon realizes it is up to him to take charge of the frightened crew and inspire the men to set aside their differences and work together to ride out one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast.
Meanwhile, as word of the disaster reaches the U.S. Coast Guard station in Chatham, Massachusetts, Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff (Eric Bana) orders a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Despite overwhelming odds, four men, led by Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber (Chris Pine), set out in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little, if any, means of navigation, facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot high waves and hurricane-force winds.

The Finest Hours opens on January 29th, 2016.
