10 Biggest Editing Mistakes in Popular Movies

$
0
0

When I go to the movies I go to be entertained. I’m not one of those nit-picky guys who points out all of the technical mistakes that were made throughout the film. Sometimes, though, there are mistakes you can help but notice.

Screen Rant has compiled a list of ten of the biggest editing mistakes in movies, and some of the films included on the list aree Mad Max: Fury Road, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Furious 7, Guardians of the Galaxy, and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

We all know that mistakes happen. But when hundreds of millions of dollars are on the line, you would think that people would pay even closer attention to detail. In the world of movie-making, the opposite is true. The bigger the movie… the bigger the mistakes. They’re not all bad, and plenty of them can be downright hilarious. Either way, fans won’t want to miss a single one of them. Here are Screen Rant’s 10 Biggest Editing Mistakes in Movies.

Yesterday we got our first look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange on the set of Marvel's Doctor Strange. We now have several new photos from the set for you to check out giving us an even better look at Cumberbatch in the role as he is walking through Nepal.

Before he became the Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange was a disliked egotistical neurosurgeon. Everything changes for him, though, when he gets in a car accident that damages his hands. This accident leads him on a journey for a cure, and in the process he come across The Ancient One and discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. These photos we are seeing show Strange on that journey.

Doctor Strange also stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Mads Mikkelsen. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016.

Iron Man Ghostbuster Armor Fan Art

Tony Stark unveils Iron Man’s latest suit of armor. This is the Mark MMXX, a.k.a. Ghostbuster Armor. This fantastic fan art comes from artist Marco D’Alfonso, and he did it for the latest edition of The Line is Drawn for CBR.

Now that this exists in the world I really want to see this Ghostbuster armor brought to life in same way. I’d also love to see Stark go out and hunt some ghosts in it! While Sony Pictures is already in the process of rebooting the Ghostbusters franchise, they might as well throw something like this into one of the several films they are looking to make.

The Mad Hatter Needs to Be Saved in Trailer for ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

Disney has released the first full trailer for Alice Through the Looking Glass, which is a sequel to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. The story follows Alice as she returns to Underland to help save the Mad Hatter, which requires her to travel back in time.

If you were a fan of the first film, then I think you'll like what you see in this trailer. It looks like it will be another crazy and whimsical adventure. I personally didn't care for the first movie, but my kids loved it, and of course, they are excited to see the sequel.

This sequel was directed by James Bobin, but Tim Burton is a producer on the project. It's based on characters created by Lewis Carroll, and it stars Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter along with the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall. The movie also stars Rhys Ifans as Zanik Hightopp, the Mad Hatter’s father and Sacha Baron Cohen as Time himself, a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock.

The movie will be released on May 27th, 2016.

Legendary Pictures is gearing up for the big trailer reveal tomorrow for Duncan Jones' Warcraft movie. We've already seen a brief teaser that got fans really pumped up and a poster that was released earlier this week featuring both the Alliance and The Horde. That poster has been split up into two character posters that we've included here.

I've already seen about five minutes of footage from the film at Comic-Con this past summer, and I'm seriously excited for the rest of you to see more than what was shown in that teaser. Even if you're not a fan of Warcraft this looks like that kind of film that will simply blow audiences away.

Fighting for The Alliance we have Dominic Cooper as King Llane Wrynn, Travis Fimmel as Anduin Lothar, Ben Foster as Medivh, Ben Schnetzer as Khadgar, and Ruth Negga as Lady Taria, and on the side of The Horde is Clancy Brown as Blackhand, Toby Kebbel as Durotan, Robert Kazinsky as Ogrim, and Daniel Wu as Gul’Dan, with Paula Patton’s Garona caught in the middle.

The Warcraft movie is set to debut in theaters on June 10th, 2016. Which side are you on?

Can you imagine what would happen if characters from Final Fantasy were to appear in a Disney animated movie? Can you think of how different they would be? Enchanting, charming, playful and sketched — that’s how I would describe them. Obviously, David Adhinarya Lojaya, an Indonesian artist, had similar visions, too. He offered a collection of several drawings of 21 Final Fantasy characters reimagined in the style of classic Disney animation.

Check out the creative art project and share your opinions about the Disney-flavored FF characters below.

New Details Revealed on Villains' Motivations in WONDER WOMAN Movie

Possible SPOILERS ahead!

We've already heard that both Ares the God of War, and Circe the Sorceress will be the villains in Patty Jenkins' upcoming Wonder Woman movie, and that those characters might be played by Sean Bean and Eva Green.

Now, thanks to Heroic Hollywood, we have some possible details on how Wonder Woman finds herself battling against Ares in the story. According to their sources:

"Ares has a blade he stole from the Amazons, it has enough power to make him the most powerful God and take over Olympus. However, the sword is locked and to activate it Ares wants to start World War 3 and use the power he will get from it to open the powers of the blade. As the God of War, Ares draws and nourishes his powers from malevolent psychic energy. After the final battle at the end of Wonder Woman, the sword disappears and Diana is supposedly looking for it in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice."

In case you forgot, yes, the Wonder Woman solo film is set before the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. You can learn even more about that in some previously released information right here. Since none of this has been officially confirmed yet, consider it all rumors for now.

Wonder Woman drops in theaters on June 23rd, 2017.

The Force is Strong With This Phenomenal STAR WARS Poster

Wow. This is a gorgeous poster.

BirthMoviesDeath points us to artist Grzegorz "Gabz" Domaradzki's breathtakingly beautiful Star Wars print that's currently on sale at NYC's Bottleneck Gallery. There are two versions, both of which went on sale earlier this morning, and while the variant poster is already sold out (only 225 were available), the regular version is an open edition — meaning that anyone can order one until Sunday, November 8th, at 11:59pm EST. I'd recommend jumping on that immediately: this is one of the best pieces of Star Wars art I've ever seen.

The regular version (above, 36 x 24" / 7 Color Screenprint) will set you back $50, and the sold out variant (below, 36 x 24" / 6 Color Screenprint) was $65. Christmas is coming soon, so this might be a good gift for the Star Wars fan(s) in your life.

Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT Gets Another Spectacular Trailer

We've got another trailer for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight for you to check out today, and of course it's loaded with new footage. Regardless of all the drama surrounding Tarantino at the moment, I couldn't be more excited to see this movie. The guy is a talented director who makes great films, and this new western of his looks like it could be a cinematic masterpiece.

The Hateful Eight stars Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, Kurt Russell as John “The Hangman” Ruth, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Domergue, Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix, Demian Bichir as Bob, Tim Roth as Oswaldo Mobray, Michael Madsen as Joe Gage, Bruce Dern as General Sanford Smithers, and Channing Tatum will also have a small role. Here's the full synopsis:

In The Hateful Eight, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all.

The movie will be released on December 25th, 2015 with an exclusive two-week roadshow run in which the film will screen in 70mm. Following the two-week engagement, the film will open with a digital theatrical release nationwide on January 8th, 2016, while continuing to be shown in 70mm as well.

The Human Race Faces Extinction in AYAME Short Featuring John Hurt

I’ve got an awesome proof of concept short film for you to watch today that was directed by Conor Maloney. It’s called Ayamé and it stars Laura Graham and the voice of John Hurt. Here's the brief story summary:

An impending disaster looms. Facing total extinction, a military operation turns to the stars in order to relocate the entire human race. During the exodus, one man is sent to rescue his former comrade after she mysteriously disappears while executing a covert operation off world.

The short has some stunning visuals, and I love the design work. There’s a lot of potential here, and I’d love to see how this story plays out.

BOURNE 5 Adds NIGHTCRAWLER and ROGUE ONE Star Riz Ahmed

Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass started principal photography on Bourne 5 over two months ago, and the production is still adding cast members. Variety reports that up-and-coming actor Riz Ahmed has joined Damon, Tommy Lee Jones, Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, and Vincent Cassel in the spy thriller.

Ahmed broke out in last year's Nightcrawler playing Jake Gyllenhaal's partner, and went on to snag a role in Gareth Edwards' upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Plot details are still being kept under wraps for the new Bourne movie, but Variety's sources tell them that Ahmed will play a CIA tech expert. The role was reportedly always meant for him, but scheduling conflicts with Rogue One had to be figured out before he could officially come on board. That explains the late addition.

As I mentioned in my Spectre review, one thing I'm growing a little weary of in movies lately is the theme of the surveillance state, and it seems like Bourne 5 is going to add to that trend. Here's what Damon said in the past about what the film will be like:

"Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world. It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy."

The still-untitled Bourne 5 will arrive in theaters on July 29th, 2016.

Muggles Referred to as "No-Maj" By American Wizards in FANTASTIC BEASTS; Plus, Read What The Movie's About

Here's something that's sure to knock Harry Potter fans off their Nimbus 2000s. The term "muggle" (a person without any magical ability) has become a staple of the pop culture lexicon since its debut in J.K. Rowling's novels, but that term is apparently only used by the English. In America, where the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them takes place, Americans have a different term for the magically deprived: "No-Maj," like "no magic." Do a quick search on Twitter to see what kind of reaction that's getting from fans of the franchise (hint: people don't like it very much.) But keep in mind: this comes directly from the mind of J.K. Rowling herself, since she's making her screenwriting debut with this film.

Meanwhile, EW (who has released a few new photos from the movie) is slowly releasing other Fantastic Beasts-related info, and they've just unveiled a mostly spoiler-free premise of the movie. If you want to go into this movie knowing nothing about the plot, then this is the part where you click away to something else. But if you don't mind finding out the basic generalization of what the movie is about, then read on:

Eccentric magizoologist Newt Scamander (Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne) comes to New York (for a reason we won’t disclose) with his trusty weathered case. This case is one of those way-way-way-bigger-on-the-inside magical devices, and within are expansive habitats for a collection of rare and endangered magical creatures from Newt’s travels around globe. He discovers the American wizarding community is fearfully hiding from Muggles (who are called “No-Maj” in the States) and the threat of public exposure is an even graver concern than in the UK (remember the Salem witch trials?). Fantastic Beasts is the story of what happens when this uniquely skilled English wizard travels to wiz-phobic America and a variety of his creatures, some quite dangerous…get out of their case.

Sounds like fun. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will hit theaters on November 18th, 2016.

Universal Didn't Know Spielberg and Trevorrow Were Developing a JURASSIC WORLD Trilogy

$

Jurassic World was a huge hit for Universal Pictures — it pulled in over 1.6 billion dollars worldwide. With those kind of numbers it was safe to assume that we would at least see another sequel, and that has been set for 2018. Director Colin Trevorrow previously teased that they approached Jurassic World as a trilogy from the very beginning, and offered up a few details about that approach. Now it seems that the trilogy has been confirmed, and that he and Steven Spielberg have been developing it together. What's funny about this is apparently Universal had no idea that's what they were planning.

Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley recently participated in a studio chief roundtable with THR, and she shed some light on the studios' plans for the Jurassic World franchise:

"There’s no reason why we should [have trouble]. Colin Trevorrow is busy working on an outline. He’s been working with Steven [Spielberg]. And they have an idea for the next two movies actually. It was designed as a trilogy, unbeknown to us. It’s a happy surprise."

If these next two films are just as successful as the last one, you can bet that the studio will want to see even more of them. I'm curious to see how exactly this story moves forward, and how the trilogy will conclude. In my mind, the only safe option to protect people from dinosaurs is to eliminate all of them. They should just nuke the island and be done with it.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are set to reprise their roles in Jurassic World 2, which is opens in theaters on June 22nd 2018.

William Shatner Dressed Up as a Stormtrooper and Sang "Girl Crush" During The CMA Awards

I don't know a lot of country music fans who are into movies like Star Trek and Star Wars, but for some reason last night during the CMA Music Awards, William Shatner came out on stage dressed up as a Stormtrooper and sang the song "Girl Crush."

I guess country music is trying to appeal to the geek crowd now? The whole show opened up with a brief Star Wars skit about a canceled Star Wars skit, and Carrie Underwood was dressed as Princess Leia. It was really weird, but it got even weirder when Shatner showed up,

You can watch the whole opening of the show in the video below. I'm just curious: are any of you readers fans of country music?

Watch: Gerard Butler Returns in Ridiculous LONDON HAS FALLEN Trailer

$

0

I loved Olympus Has Fallen, the outlandish 2013 action movie that was one of two "Die Hard in the White House" films that came out that year. For me, it was so much more entertaining than White House Down because Olympus was dirtier, meaner, and had 100% more Gerard Butler stabbing people in the head. So I've been looking forward to its sequel, London Has Fallen, and really hoping that it'd be able to live up to the ludicrous nature of the first film.

Gramercy Pictures just sent over the first official full trailer for the movie, and it just might live up to expectations. Keep in mind, I don't think this film looks "good" in the traditional sense, but from Butler saying he's made out of "bourbon and poor choices" to Morgan Freeman's rip-off of the classic Taken speech and his over-the-top delivery of "Oh my God," this looks so bad it could be good.

But I'm hoping that they're holding back on a lot of head-stabbing, because that should really be the bread and butter of this franchise. London Has Fallen blows into theaters on March 4th, 2016.

The sequel to the worldwide smash hit “Olympus Has Fallen,” a non-stop, suspenseful action thriller that delivers high-octane excitement through a heightened sense of authenticity. The visceral intensity springs from a timely premise: after the British Prime Minister passes away, his funeral becomes a target of a terrorist organization to destroy some of the world’s most powerful leaders, devastate the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. The only hope of stopping it rests on the shoulders of the President of the United States (Aaron Eckhart) and his formidable Secret Service head (Gerard Butler), and an English MI-6 agent (Charlotte Riley) who rightly trusts no one. Morgan Freeman also stars as the Vice President of the United States.

Here's Aaron Sorkin's Pitch For a Pixar Movie

$
0
0

Steve Jobs is not doing very well at the box office (which is a shame, because it's very good), but aside from a strong script and some stellar performances from Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet, one good thing did come from the movie: a story from writer Aaron Sorkin about the time the real Steve Jobs asked him to pitch a Pixar movie back in the '90s.

Digital Spy asked Sorkin about what his pitch was like, and Sorkin answered with a typically Sorkin-esque tale that sounds kind of messed up for a Pixar animated feature:

"What I said rather glibly to Steve [Jobs] when he asked me to write a Pixar movie was, 'I don't think I'm able to make an inanimate object talk'. He said, 'Once you make it talk, it's no longer inanimate, now is it Aaron?' ...
"And it all stems from this old joke about a screenwriter who is experiencing terrible writers' block, and it's been going on for a year and he hasn't been able to write anything.
"One day he comes down to his kitchen and right there on the table is a screenplay, and it's got his name on it. He reads the screenplay, and it's fantastic, and he takes it to the studio, and they really like it, and straight away say, 'We're going to make this movie! Here's your cheque!'
"The next morning, the writer goes down to his kitchen and there's another screenplay with his name on it. He reads it and it's also fantastic, so he takes it to the studio, and the same thing happens.
"So finally, the next night, the writer decides to tip toe downstairs in the middle of the night to see what is going on.
"Sure enough, there's a little leprechaun in his house, typing away, and the writer says, 'I don't know how to thank you! You've saved my life! You've revived my career! I'm celebrated! I can pay my mortgage! I'm so happy - is there anything I can do to repay you?'
"And the leprechaun says, 'Well, it would be great if you could share screenwriting credit with me...' So the writer says, 'Go f**k yourself.'
"So my Pixar idea is that instead of it being a leprechaun, it's all the objects in his office. What if all the objects in his office are trying to help him out?"

So why haven't we seen a movie about a bunch of office supplies providing their support to a struggling writer? There's just one little problem:

"But I don't have a second or a third act. I hear they're important in movies!"

Now we know what a Pixar film (or at least the first act of one) would look like from the man who wrote The Social Network, A Few Good Men, The Newsroom, and The West Wing. Sorkin's Steve Jobs, directed by Danny Boyle, is in theaters now.

Julia Roberts Wants Vengeance in New SECRET IN THEIR EYES Trailer

Here's the second full trailer for Secret in Their Eyes, the revenge thriller that looks like it boasts powerhouse performances from a spectacular cast that includes Julia Roberts, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Nicole Kidman. Roberts plays an FBI agent whose daughter is murdered, and she basically goes rogue, spending years trying to track down the person responsible and pulling her former co-workers into the wake of her desire for vengeance. Written and directed by Billy Ray (Shattered Glass), this might end up being the best movie Roberts has been involved with since Ocean's Eleven.

Secret in Their Eyes was originally supposed to be in theaters last month, but it will now arrive on November 20th.

A tight-knit team of rising FBI investigators – Ray (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and Jess (Julia Roberts), along with their District Attorney supervisor Claire (Nicole Kidman) – is suddenly torn apart when they discover that Jess’s teenage daughter has been brutally and inexplicably murdered.
Now, thirteen years later, after obsessively searching every day for the elusive killer, Ray finally uncovers a new lead that he’s certain can permanently resolve the case, nail the vicious murderer, and bring long-desired closure to his team. No one is prepared, however, for the shocking, unspeakable secret that will reveal the enduring, destructive effects of personal vengeance on the human soul.
Interweaving past and present, this deeply layered mystery explores the murky boundaries between justice and revenge, and asks the question: how far would you go to right an unfathomable wrong?
