It's October 21st, 2015 and you know what that means! It's Back to the Future day! This is the day that Marty and Doc arrive in the future to help Marty's kids stay out of trouble. To celebrate the arrival of our science fiction future, Mondo and Hero Complex Gallery have released some radical art prints that pay tribute to the classic trilogy.

The first couple of pieces can be purchased from Hero Complex Gallery. The first piece you see above was created by Ape Meets Girl, and was inspired by the first film in the trilogy. It is a limited edition of 350 and is available for purchase for $55.

The second illustration below comes from Craig Drake. The regular edition has 500 prints and will cost you $60. Then there are two foil variants with an edition of 250 that will cost you $65. There's also a special paper color variant where every single print that is made is unique. Each one will have a different color scheme that no other print has. That variant will cost you $75.

The next two prints come from Mondo. The first was created by Matt Taylor and was inspired by Back to the Future Part III. The regular version has an edition of 325 and will cost you $50. The variant edition has an edition of 175 and costs $75. The artist said:

"As soon as Mondo asked me to do a poster for PART 2, I pretty much immediately knew what I wanted to do for PART 3. I know it has its naysayers, but as it was the only one of the movies I saw in the theatre upon release, it has a special place for me and was the one I really wanted to do a poster for. BTTF has always been this brilliantly weird anachronistic mess of styles with an 80s take on the 50s – and then that filtering back to the 1880s – so I wanted to make something that had hits of all those periods; the 1980s palette, the modern layout and the 50s lifestyle-esque styling of the horses. I don’t know if I was completely successful, but it’s the poster I’m most happy with, and I’m sure will present some interesting framing questions for those who want to hang all three of my prints for the trilogy – sorry!"

The final piece comes from artist James Flames and the regular edition has 325 prints and costs $45. The variant come in an edition of 175 and is going for $65. Here’s what the artist had to say:

"If I’m being honest, there are very few movies that I liked as a kid that actually still hold up for me today. Very, very few. But man, the original BACK TO THE FUTURE is definitely one of them. I mean, I know why I liked it back in the mid-80s – like most kids, I was crazy about cars, crazy about 50s music, and Michael J. Fox was like the coolest dude out there. Everybody I knew wanted to grow up to be like him. Dude wailed on guitar! But what I can better appreciate about it now is that it wasn’t just cheap kid’s fluff – there’s real storytelling in there, great characters, cool concepts. And at the heart is this kid and this car, and the amazing adventure they get into together. And that’s what I wanted to focus on with my poster. That moment where Marty meets the Delorean…his life, and the entire world, are changed forever in that very instant. And of course, it was fun to play with the two time-eras and split them apart in the background (and then reverse them for the variant edition). So stoked to have gotten to illustrate such a cool movie. Heavy."

"I believe the ordinary meet the extraordinary every single day."

David O. Russell sure does have a talent for making wonderful films with great characters, and he knows how to bring out the best talent in Jennifer Lawrence. They've worked together on Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, and today we've got a new trailer for their next collaboration, Joy

JOY is the wild story of a family across four generations centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy’s inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces... Joy defies genre to tell a story of family, loyalty, and love.

I know this kind of movie isn't for everyone, but if you're a fan of any of the talent involved, then I'd think it's definitely worth checking out. It looks like it will be another fantastic movie full of drama, humor, and heart. It also stars Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, and Virginia Madsen

The movie is set to be released on December 25th.

Marvel and Netflix have released a motion poster for their highly anticipated Jessica Jones series. It was also announced that a new trailer for the series will be released this coming Friday. I assume that trailer is going to give us our best look at Jessica Jones yet.

After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases in New York City. It's time the world knew her name...

The series stars Krysten Ritter in the title role, David Tennant (Kilgrave), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Traval. The 13 episode series will premiere on Netflix November 20th, 2015. To catch up on all of our previous Jessica Jones news and watch the previously released promos, click here.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Is Shaping Up to Be the Most Expensive Movie Ever Made

A rumor went around recently that Marvel will spend as much as $1 billion dollars on the two upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films. That hasn’t actually happened yet, so we can’t say for sure if that will be the case.

Zack Snyder has already completed shooting Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and he’s currently in post-production. According to Latino-Review, the budget on that film has ballooned to over $410 million, which if true, makes it the most expensive movie ever made.

As of right now the current record is held by Disney’s Pirate of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which cost the studio $378.5 million. That’s proof that just because a studio drops a ton of cash on a film it doesn’t mean that movie is going to turn out to be good.

Marvel hasn’t even come close to spending that kind of cash on any of their films yet. The budget for Avengers: Age of Ultron was $279.9 million. I have no idea why Batman v Superman would cost over $410 million. The report explains that "the addition of big name cast members, practical sets, and an extended production schedule could have all contributed." I still think that’s out of control, though, and it doesn’t make any sense to me. You really don’t need to spend that kind of cash on these movies. Someone on the money management side of things really seemed to drop the ball.

The report goes on to say that Zack Snyder's two-part Justice League movies set to be released in 2017 and 2019 have been budgeted for $500 million, and that includes both films. The first of those films is currently prepping to shoot in London for 16 months. Who knows what they could rise to if they are met with the same issues that Batman v Superman must have had.

Hopefully, Batman v Superman is as big of a box office success as they want it to be. Could you imagine if the movie sucks and it completely bombs? That would sure suck ass for the studio if they lost money on this film! I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if all that extra money that they spent on the film was worth it.

Review: STEVE JOBS Is Humanized By Aaron Sorkin

Laughs were aplenty in the theater I shared with those at the advanced screening of Steve Jobs. I wasn't laughing, but I was in the minority in the film's opening minutes. People laughed as Michael Fassbender played the iconic Apple co-founder, as he nitpicked the opening sequence of the iMac demo. The laughs continued through much of the opening of the film. About midway through, with Jobs' encounter with high school lover Chrisann Brennan the laughs ceased. We watched Fassbender switch gears and become irate at his ex's insistence that Lisa, Brennan's daughter, was his as well.

Everyone then clued into the reason why I wasn't laughing from the start, this guy isn't some goofy visionary with a good heart. He's an asshole.

And that's the biggest strength of this film. While it would be in Apple's best interest to paint their departed icon as the tech God of the 21st century, this film services his legacy in reminding America he was just a man. Steve Jobs was cocky, prone to setting himself up to failure, and not always a good father. We see the good and the bad spanning nearly 20 years of his life, and it feels real, even if it isn't. Humanizing Jobs does more of a service to future generations who wish to attain his success than pretending he was infallible. So when Tim Cook wants to get in your ear and tells you, "Jobs was a joy for all that knew him." Tell him what Jobs often told Wozniak when "technology isn't art"...

"F*** YOU!"

In Cook's defense, you definitely get the sense Sorkin has an axe to grind against Apple. I find it no coincidence that we see a scene where Jobs tells recently fired CEO John Sculley that Newton failed "because it had a stylus and we have these (fingers)" and Apple just happened to be developing a pen for use in smart phones. Maybe I have a tinfoil hat on, and Jobs was on record in saying that, but I definitely felt a biting malice in that instance.

For those who aren't aware, this is not a cohesive story. You'll be getting a glimpse of Jobs in 5 different sections of his life. We all have seen the keynotes and products, now we see what happened behind the scenes of those events. Granted, we get a version told through mainly the eyes of the public record, Aaron Sorkin, and Steve Wozniak.

Speaking of Wozniak, Seth Rogen really knocks it out of the park with his portrayal. The conversations between him and Fassbender throughout the film were often the high point, and the tension mixed with friendship really was sold well on screen. I felt the heart and emotion in his voice where you consistently felt he was inches away from writing a longtime friend out of his life. Did he still sound like Rogen? Yeah... but Fassbender doesn't even look like Jobs, so it evens out.

The film plays out much like an episode of The Newsroom, which is appropriate as actors who auditioned read an episode script as opposed to the film script. There's fast walking, fast talking, and everyone is quick-witted. Of course, the comparison is even more made with the appearance of Jeff Daniels. Not saying the Newsroom similarity is bad, but if you're looking for a slowdown or explanation of the action on screen, look elsewhere, because they're not holding your hands.

For all the talking and walking I have to say the action on the screen was never dull. Danny Boyle was able to shoot a whole film in one location with James Franco and rocks, so this one must've been easy for him. Two hours went by fairly fast and by the end I felt I was given an honest and (mostly) unbiased opinion on the life of Steve Jobs. It's worth a watch in theaters if you're a fan of Sorkin's products and not under the illusion that Jobs did indeed hang the moon, but instead realize that he was just a man who changed the world. I found it refreshing, and a great change of pace.

The Red Ranger Has Been Cast in Upcoming POWER RANGERS Movie

The cast for the new Power Rangers movie is starting to form. Last week we learned that Naomi Scott had been cast in the role of the Pink Ranger. Lionsgate has now announced that Dacre Montgomery will play the Red Ranger, who is the leader of the team.

I have absolutely no idea who this guy is. I've never heard of him, and I'm not familiar with anything that is listed on his IMDb page. I'm sure the guy is crazy excited to have landed the gig. I don't know what to expect from the actor, but hopefully he doesn't screw it up! The Power Rangers fans will eat him alive.

There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the plot of the film. If you haven't read any of those yet and you want to catch up on them, click here. Here's the announcement tweet:

Power Rangers is set to hit theaters on January 13, 2017.

An Amusing Twitter Battle Erupted Between Directors Rian Johnson and Duncan Jones

For those of you who weren't aware, a couple of days ago a Twitter war erupted between Warcraft director Duncan Jones and Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson. There's a good chance you weren't paying attention because it took place during all the hype surrounding Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It was pointed out to me by a friend of mine, and I just had to post it because it's pretty darn entertaining.

The whole argument revolves around “shooting on film” and it began with the following tweet from Jones:

Then Johnson fired back, and the hilarious Twitter battle began:

Some other people also got involved with the conversation, but it ended on good terms:

I don't care how these guys want to make their movies. As long as they keep making them, I'll be at the theater to watch them.

KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE Sequel Coming in 2017

Kingsman: The Secret Service was a surprise hit for 20th Century Fox earlier this year, pulling in over $400 million on an $81 million budget. What isn't a surprise, then, is that the studio wants a sequel. It looks like Matthew Vaughn is coming back to direct, Fox has worked out scheduling issues with star Taron Egerton, and they may even figure out a way to bring Colin Firth back, so Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 is definitely happening.

Fox wants to have the new production up and running by April of 2016, and they're confident they can make that happen because they've now given it an official release date: June 16th, 2017.

That release date shows how excited the studio is about this franchise. They've taken a movie that bowed in January and given its sequel a summer release date, set to go head to head with Cars 3 and be in theaters at the same time as Wonder Woman, Despicable Me 3, Star Wars: Episode VIII, and World War Z 2.

I loved the first movie, so I'm glad to see that Vaughn and Egerton are coming back. Hopefully they can deliver a sequel that was just as entertaining as the original.

This JURASSIC WORLD Deleted Scene is Full of Crap

Here's a scene I'm very glad stayed on the cutting room floor of Jurassic World.

In a callback to the scene in Jurassic Park in which Laura Dern digs through a huge pile of excrement from a sick Triceratops, this time we see Owen and Claire coming across their own pile of dino dung. It adds almost nothing to the relationship between Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard's characters, and seems to be trying to make a woman smearing dinosaur crap all over her body appear...kind of erotic? Is that what they were going for? What's with that weird Jungle Book music in the background?

The movie already caught enough flak for having a few too many references to the original Jurassic Park; at a certain point, Colin Trevorrow must have realized that his movie needed to try to stand on its own as much as it could, and cutting this scene not only helped his film do that, but it also made the movie better overall. Good call on leaving this one out.

Jon Hamm Cast in Edgar Wright's BABY DRIVER

$

Mad Men star Jon Hamm has joined director Edgar Wright's next film project, Baby Driver. He joins the previously-cast Ansel Elgort, Lily James, and Jamie Foxx.

Wright will write and direct the film, which centers on a "young, talented getaway driver who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best." This character is also mute, with an ear condition that "that forces him to constantly listen to music in order to drown out the constant ringing in his ears." He's strong-armed into working for a crime boss, and he "must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom."

Elgort will play the mute driver and James will play his love interest. There are no details surrounding Hamm's character, but Foxx is supposed to be playing a crime boss (in a role once earmarked for Michael Douglas).

Production on the film is expected to start later this year, and it will be released on March 17th, 2017. As a fan of every movie Wright has made in his career, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.

MYTHBUSTERS Will End After Next Season

$

I've got some bad news for all of Mythbusters fanatics out there. The long-running Discovery Channel series will come to an end after next season. The was created by Peter Rees and it first aired in 2004. The show's main stars are Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, and I've been a fan since it first started. I'm pretty bummed out that it's coming to a close after its 14th season.

The show tests science-based theories and pop culture phenomenons, and according to Entertainment Weekly, the series is going to end with a bang. Savage and Hyneman have secretly known the end of the series was coming and they've been prepping for an explosive final run! Savage told the site:

“It was my greatest fear that Mythbusters would just stop and we wouldn’t be able to do proper final episodes. So whether it’s myths about human behavior or car stories or explosion stories, we tried to find the most awesome example of each category and build on our past history.”

Savage he was asked what he was most proud of in terms of the what the show has accomplished. He replied:

"I am most proud that we found a way to tell compelling stories that have real information in them. I see the state of reality television — whether it’s Pawn Stars or Steampunk’d or Face Off — and I see the same kind of narrative playing out endlessly, with people competing and trash talking. Sometimes you see some craft being exercised, but it’s very formulaic. Mythbusters stayed away from being formulaic. We’ve continued to make a fairly vibrant and vital show that I’m very proud of. Jamie and I will head out on tour in November and half the audience will be kids under the age of 8, all the way up to cranky old engineers. When people say, 'I’m a physics teacher and your show has helped me do my job,' or, 'I have a kid with ADHD and he really responds to the show,' every time I hear one of those things it moves me and humbles me. We we’re [sic] even scientists when we started. Making this show has fundamentally changed the way I think and act in the world."

You might not already know Savage and Hyneman have never been friends. They are just working partners. When Hyneman was asked if he'd still like to continue a partnership with Savage, he said:

"That’s a good question. We like to point out we’ve known each other for 25 years and never once sat down to have dinner alone together. We sort of managed to tolerate each other. I think it’s probably safe to say that continuing our on screen relationship in front of the camera is probably not happening. I expect Adam may well pursue things in front of the camera, but I’m most likely not. It’s not who I am. This has been a very rewarding and interesting decade, but it's not really what I’m cut out for."

Hyneman was then asked to talk about his fondest memory of the show and this was his reply:

"There have been so many moments where we were doing something really unusual we’d never have the opportunity to do. It goes back to when we were doing the first rocket car and I was piloting this car in the desert from a helicopter. It was like some wild animal in the savanna and it out-ran the helicopter. It was like a kid’s dream. There have been a lot of moments like that over the years."

I'm gonna miss watching these guys work together, and it will be interesting to see what they end up doing next. To read the full interview, click here.

Hear The Amazing Score Isolated in New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

$

0

John Williams' iconic score is a major part of why Star Wars has become such a cultural phenomenon. There are so many fantastic themes placed throughout those films, and even the prequels have the amazing "Duel of the Fates" to keep them afloat. Williams' music was one of my favorite things about the new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (at least some of it — other parts were likely created by additional composers specifically for this trailer). When that riff on Han and Leia's love theme comes in as the Millennium Falcon races through the skies above Jakku, it gave me chills.

Thanks to Chicago-based graphic designer Tim Gonzales, we can now listen to the trailer's music without the dialogue or sound effects. He's isolated the music track, and even if you've already watched the trailer a dozen times, it's really cool to be able to watch it this way and put your full attention on the score. Thanks for sending this over, Tim!

It's finally here: October 21st, 2015. Everyone knows exactly how important this date is in Back to the Future history, and Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd have reunited for a Toyota commercial (loaded with BTTF references) that takes us one step closer to the future. I always roll my eyes when I hear about corporations doing stuff like this, but I have to admit: they did a good job on this one.

But that's not all. Here's Lloyd in character as Doc Brown with a special message for all of us:

Happy Back to the Future Day, everyone!

I love Back to the Future, and Back to the Future Day is a once in a lifetime thing, so I can tolerate all of the excessive BTTF articles making the rounds online today (heck, I even contributed to it already this morning). But here's something I haven't seen plastered all over the rest of the internet: a really freakin' cool 3D model of the DeLorean and Hill Valley's city hall.

This was designed by Alejandro Santell, and I had fun zooming in and spinning around every aspect of this rad piece of art. Check it out below, and visit Alejandro's Behance page for more cool pop culture-related 3D models.

They include Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot).

Once the magazine is released, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of good information regarding the highly-anticipated film and its development available for us. Favorite Disney Characters Reimagined as Hogwarts Students

People often get inspired to experiment with different fictional worlds. Artists go from altering various fantasy settings completely, to mixing up and merging characters from one medium with characters from a different one, to partially changing some of their expressions and looks. And all of this evokes pure joy. Because what’s better than seeing Batman trying to get dressed in Spider-Man’s costume, for example? Maybe people will argue that there are far more interesting things than seeing such amalgamations (like watching the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer over and over again), but I personally have fun every time I see such demonstrations of creativity and sense of humor.

For those of you who also like such mashups, I chose to present to you some Disney characters as students from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The images were created by Isaiah Stephens.

There is Prince Philip along with Aurora and Belle traveling on the Hogwarts Express, Elsa from Frozen being sorted into a house, the Beast trying his best not to melt his cauldron, Snow White looking at the mirror of Erised, and others who are either testing their skills as Quidditch players or just practicing spells.

Nike Officially Announces Self-Lacing BACK TO THE FUTURE Shoes!

One of the worst-kept secrets of the past few years is that the functional self-lacing Nike Air Mags from Back to the Future Part 2 would be on sale at some point in 2015. We already knew that Nike had applied for a patent for the technology, and an ad agency that works with the company teased a photo of the shoe just last month. But what better day to officially announce it than October 21st, 2015? Even if we knew they were coming, it's still kind of amazing to hear that those shoes now actually exist!

Yesterday, Nike teased the announcement on Twitter:

And today, there's this:

Here's a transcription of that letter from Tinker Hatfield, the lead designer of the shoes:

Hey Michael,
Almost thirty years ago, we embarked on a journey to create a glimpse into “the future.” Although the project started as science fiction, we’re now proud to turn that fiction into fact. As the first, most celebrated wearing of the Nike Air Mag, we wanted you to be the first to receive a living pair. “I meant Nike Mag” (I must have “air” on the brain)!
What is so special about the Nike Air Mag is its impact continues to resonate. We may never know its final legacy, but we continue to work on projects that carry and progress some of its principles.
As you well know, innovation never stops at Nike so we’re excited about what lies ahead for this idea. We know if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
In addition to your personal pair, we’re creating more pairs for support in aid of the Michael J. Fox foundation in 2016. We hope that the combined effort will raise even more than the $9.4 million contributed in 2011 and to eliminating in some way Parkinson’s Disease in our lifetime!

Fox is supposed to go on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight, so be sure to tune in for more information! Are you going to try to get your hands on a pair?
