GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Director Paul Feig Lashes Out at His Haters

Ever since the new Ghostbusters reboot was announced, and we found out Paul Feig would be directing it, fans have expressed their dislike for the concept and the fact that such a great classic film is being rebooted. I've been among the fans who have complained!

Feig decided it was time to address these complaints and he took to Twitter to lash out at the haters and the media who leaked the cameo appearances. It's actually kind of amusing to see a director get fed up about all this shit and lose his cool.

Feig then addressed the supporters of his film:

So yeah, Feig finally got fed up with all the bashing, and he decided to vent his frustrations on Twitter. I'm still not really all that excited for the movie. I don't care that he cast for women in the lead roles, I'm a fan of them. I just don't like the fact that Ghostbusters, which is one of my all-time favorite films, fell victim to the Hollywood reboot monster.

If the movie turns out to be good, awesome! I'm just not expecting it to be as good as the original. What are your thoughts on Feig's hater lash-out?

Then there's this...

Ghostbusters opens in theaters on July 15th, 2016.

Chad Stahelski To Be Solo Director of JOHN WICK 2

Chad Stahelski was credited as the solo director of John Wick due to a ruling from the Directors Guild of America, but film fans know that he actually co-directed the kick-ass action movie alongside David Leitch, with whom he runs the action design team 87eleven (they've done stunts and action choreography for films like The Hunger Games, The Expendables, The Wolverine, and more). But despite Lionsgate's initial announcement that both men would be directing the upcoming John Wick 2, Collider reports that Stahelski will once again receive solo directing credit on the sequel — but that's because he's actually going to be the only one directing it this time. According to them, Leitch will move over into an executive producer role on this project as he searches for his own movie to direct on his own.

The duo have been linked to things like a DC Comics film adaptation, a spy thriller starring Charlize Theron, and an adaptation of the comic Bloodshot, so any of these could conceivably be Leitch's next project if the timing on any of them conflicts with John Wick 2. We'll keep our ears to the ground and let you know as soon as we hear how this plays out. Keanu Reeves will return to star, and no release date has been set yet.

Brad Bird Teases Some of The Ideas Behind THE INCREDIBLES 2

Since the moment the credits rolled on Brad Bird's awesome 2004 film The Incredibles, fans have wanted to see a sequel about the superhero family. They're finally getting their wish: The Incredibles 2 was officially announced last year and Bird's coming back to write and direct it. The filmmaker has discussed the project a bit here and there, and ComingSoon just had the chance to speak with him briefly about the genesis of the project and how he needed to work on other things before he could come back and revisit those characters:

“I had a bunch of ideas that I wanted to put in ‘The Incredibles,' but they just didn’t fit. Certain ideas fit, but other things make you go, ‘This is great, but I’d have to give up two other things that matter more to me to get this other thing in.’ So there were a pile of ideas left over from ‘The Incredibles,’ but it’s not a big thing. There were little scenes and things that I was interested in. I wanted to come up with sort of an over-arching idea that connected to the first film that went somewhere different. That’s the one that took a little more time.”
“I don’t think I could have made this movie right away,” Bird explained when asked if the past ten years had changed his point of view on the characters at all. “Nor would I want to. I always want to break things up with something else. I know some directors who have done a movie and then, the very next thing they do is the sequel to that movie. Unless it’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ and it was always conceived of us doing it that way, I will always want to break it up with something else and then come back to it. That said, I’m really looking forward to playing with this playset again.”

I've only seen The Incredibles once, so I really need to go back and revisit that film. I really dug it when it came out, but that was over ten years ago and I'm interested to see how it plays now considering superhero movies are coming out left and right these days. It's no surprise he has some ideas that didn't quite fit into the first movie: that tends to be the case for almost every director who returns to helm a sequel after directing an original story.

The Incredibles 2 doesn't have a release date in place yet, but Bird gave an update about that last week that you can read here. Are you excited to see this movie?

Prepare For Remakes of ACE VENTURA, THE EXORCIST, and MAJOR LEAGUE

Morgan Creek Productions has put its library of 78 films up for sale, and if the deal goes through with a potential buyer, the production company is set to retain the remake rights to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Major League, The Exorcist, Young Guns, and Flying Tigers.

I'm sure you can see where this is heading. Morgan Creek's CEO told Deadline that they're selling the rights to the library in order to make money to fund more movies, but it seems like at least some of those movies will be remakes of Ace Ventura, The Exorcist, and Major League; of the five available options, those are the three currently in development there.

Remaking Major League is one thing, but The Exorcist? That's a classic, and it seems like there is always at least one exorcism-based movie that comes out every year, so a remake of the original seems unnecessary. As for Ace Ventura, good luck finding someone to capture the manic energy of Jim Carrey, because it's not going to happen. Carrey is a one-in-a-million performer who absolutely owned that role in the early stage of his film career, and a modern actor trying to put his own spin on it is likely just going to fall flat. If the movie is a remake in name only and everything else about it is changed, including the personality of the main character, then maybe I can see that working out OK. What do you all think?

Review: BLACK MASS — Johnny Depp Kills It as Mob Boss Whitey Bulger

$

I’m a sucker for films that revolve around the mob. Whether it’s based on a true story or completely fictional, I love stories that are set in the criminal underworld. I just find it fascinating. So I was really looking forward to seeing director Scott Cooper’s Black Mass, which is based on the true-life story of Whitey Bulger.

Bulger was the brother of a state senator and an FBI informant that became one of the most infamous, violent criminals in the history of South Boston. He became an informant to help take down a rival mafia family. The government ended up letting this guy get away with a lot of crazy shit for a very long time, and the FBI team involved with tried to cover up a lot of the stuff he did.

They story was a very dark and violent romp through the mob world, as Whitey was literally going around killing one person after another. That’s the basic formula this movie followed. Bulger was portrayed as a ruthless killer, and he ended the lives of several people, especially when he thought they were ratting on him. Bulger was a mob boss who obviously did a lot of his own dirty work. He wasn’t afraid to get blood on his hands. This movie makes sure that you know that, and takes us on a journey through a heart of darkness.

Bulger was an intriguing and terrifying guy, creepily portrayed by Johnny Depp. Depp was freakin’ awesome in this movie. This is one of the best performances that he’s given in a long time. It’s the first time that I’ve seen him do something since Sweeney Todd that I actually enjoyed watching him in. The guy is a very versatile actor that can take on all kinds of crazy roles, but this is one in where you can really see the insanity behind his eyes. The hair and the make-up he was sporting in the film seemed a bit off, but other than that, his performance was spectacular. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got nominated for an Oscar.

The movie also had an incredible ensemble cast that included Joel Edgerton as John Connelly, Kevin Bacon as Charles McGuire, Peter Sarsgaard as Brian Halloran, Jesse Plemons as Kevin Weeks, Adam Scott as Robert Fitzpatrick, Corey Stoll as Red Wyshak, Rory Cochrane as Steve Flemmi, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Billy Bulger. Every one of these guys gave top-notch performances.

Black Mass is a captivating film that completely fulfilled my curiosity about the insane life that Bulger lived. I know a lot of it was Hollywood dramatization, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the film. The one thing that this movie lacks is any kind of feel-good positivity. Almost every character in this movie is a complete dirtbag. The movie isn't for everyone, but if you enjoy these kinds of films, or you are a fan of any of these actors, it might be worth checking it out.

THE A-TEAM Remake Series is in Development at Fox

I grew up on The A-Team — I freakin' loved watching that show! Col. John “Hannibal” Smith, Lieutenant Templeton “Faceman” Peck, Captain “Howling Mad” Murdock, and B. A. Baracus were my definition of badasses when I was a kid.

Deadline is reporting that the classic '80s series is going to be rebooted by 20th Century Fox. The show was already rebooted once as a film by Joe Carnahan, which was incredibly fun, but this time around it will be rebooted as a new series.

The series is being developed by Fast & Furious writer-producer Chris Morgan. He's also executive producing the series with TV director Tawnia McKiernan, who is the daughter of the original creator of the series, Stephen J. Cannell. Then there's Sleepy Hollow executive producer Albert Kim, who is writing the upcoming adaptation. According to the report:

"The new A-Team revolves around a diverse team of American Special Forces operatives. Unlike the original all-male squad, the new team will include both male and female members. The group has been framed for a crime they didn’t commit and set out to clear their names by uncovering the black-ops conspiracy that set them up. Along the way, they are driven to help those in need by using their singular military skills, high-tech expertise and often conflicting individual approaches. It’s described as a fun episodic mission-of-the-week show that mixes big action-adventure sequences with compelling characters, inventive cons and lots of humor."

I was hoping for a sequel to the movie, but it doesn't look like that's ever going to happen. I guess a series like this could be the next best thing...if it's good! They better not screw this up! I think it will be fine with Morgan leading the charge, though. He's done a great job with the Fast & Furious franchise. Hopefully he can bring that awesomeness to The A-Team series.

Jason Momoa Talks About His Aquaman Costume in BATMAN V SUPERMAN

I've been in the same room with people like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Dolph Lundgren, but that didn't give me the same primal sense of, "holy crap, this guy could snap me in half if he wanted to and there's literally nothing I could do about it" as I got when I was in a room with Jason Momoa. The dude is absolutely massive, and while I'm sure he has a more lighthearted side, he has a deadly serious face that would silence anyone who makes fun of Aquaman if they were within eyeshot.

As you know, Momoa will play the King of Atlantis in Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a site called The Robot's Voice got a quick interview with him at the Joshua Tree International Film Festival and asked him whether or not we'd see any traditional orange and green in his costume since the only image we've seen of him so far was a bit more hardcore than the traditional depiction of the character:

"Well, there might be some bit of orange and green. A bit of respect to prior work, but I think he is meaner now and upset – look at what has been done to our oceans. That’s his world that has been polluted."

It's unclear whether he'll wear multiple suits in the movie, or if the colors will appear in the costume we've already seen him wearing (maybe it was just desaturated to look more badass and will be a bit brighter in the film?). One thing's for sure: he won't have a very big role in Batman v Superman because there's so much other stuff going on, but he'll appear in the two-part Justice League movies shortly after that.

MEN IN BLACK Being Rebooted as a New Trilogy, Likely Without Will Smith

Men in Black is a trilogy that probably should have just ended after the original movie. The third film was better than the second one, but still — it didn't seem like the filmmakers really had much to say after the first movie, which was more of a star vehicle for Will Smith and a showcase for what, at the time, were pretty impressive special effects.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, MIB producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald confirmed that not only is there a reboot in the works, but there are bigger plans for the franchise to continue on:

You produced Men in Black. Has there been talk of reviving that franchise with the new Sony regime?
PARKES: We're in the middle of it. It's very active.
Is Will Smith going to be part of it?
PARKES: Most likely no.
MACDONALD: It will be reinvented as a trilogy.

THR failed to ask them whether this newly reinvented trilogy would be the potential crossover with the 21 Jump Street movies, but I'm sure Sony wouldn't think twice about linking both of those franchises together if it meant they could make money on three more films. Alone, Men in Black and Jump Street sequels probably wouldn't do that well (the current narratives of both have been played out), but combined, curiosity might be enough to get people to come see what the heck a crossover between them would look like. If development is indeed "very active," we should probably be hearing something about this in an official capacity from Sony soon.

Watch: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Gets a Second Blooper Reel

We've already seen one blooper reel for Joss Whedon's superhero sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron, and now Disney and Marvel have released a second quick batch of screw-ups from our favorite superhero mega-team. There's dancing, cursing, and Mark Ruffalo busting his ass and accidentally sliding down a ramp. Not a bad way to spend a minute and ten seconds of your life.

Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to Blu-ray and DVD on October 2nd.

Hugh Jackman Wants To Explore Logan's Father/Son Relationship With Professor X in WOLVERINE 3

Hugh Jackman is suiting up as Wolverine one final time for the still-untitled Wolverine 3, and he's offered up some new details about what his last film as a member of the X-Men will feature — namely, a further exploration of the relationship with the group's leader, Professor Xavier, as played by Patrick Stewart. In a new interview with Collider, Jackman said:

“I’ll be really honest with you, the actual script in its full form we’re up to about Page 60. Obviously there’s a treatment, so it’s not fully done yet, we’re not fully there. Patrick does figure in it that’s for sure. I think it’s a really important relationship but I want to see signs of that quasi-father/son sort of relationship that has not been seen before, and sides of particularly Professor X that have not been seen before. So we have some really, really cool ideas.”

More Professor X? Sounds great to me. Stewart is awesome in that role, and his relationship with Logan has been one of the best parts about the X-Men franchise so far.

Since this is the last time he'll be playing the character, Jackman is very serious about making sure everything is where it should be story-wise before they start shooting, though.

“I’m saying ‘but’ and I’m sounding a little cagey because this is the last time I’m playing him, and I have just made the commitment to myself, really, and told everyone that until that script is perfect, until it is that perfect way to sign out, I’m not gonna start shooting. So that’s why I don’t wanna say ‘Yes’ for sure, because until Page 115, 120, whatever it is…”
“I feel that I’m pushing harder than I’ve ever pushed before. I suppose the stakes just go up when you announce before your last season that this is your last season, you don’t want one game to not be your best… People ask me, ‘How are you gonna be able to let it go?’ To me the only way you can let it go is if you left blood every day on the studio floor.”

So when does he think they're actually going to get underway with production? He and director James Mangold are still aiming for a 2016 start date:

“The ultimate plan is let’s start shooting next year… I’m starting the training, I’m starting the eating and mentally really preparing for it. It’s not just me, the studio as well—I’m trying to do something with this that’s a little special, a little different. I’ve got a very, very strong idea of what that is. I really have known for quite a long time how I want to finish this sort of odyssey that I’ve been on, this amazing journey. And I won’t let it fall anywhere in between. I won’t fall short of it.”

I enjoyed The Wolverine up until it sort of crapped the bed at the very end, and I love how Jackman is taking great pains to make sure that he gives his version of this character a great send-off this time. He's as big a fan of the characters as the audience, so he wants to do right by Wolverine and make sure he goes out on top.

ZELDA Co-Creator Wants Link to Be Played by a "Boyish" Actress

Last month it was reported that that Nintendo was looking to possibly get back into making movies. One game that some fans would love to see adapted for the big screen is The Legend of Zelda. If Nintendo is actually planning on rolling forward with movies, they'd be stupid not to put Zelda into development.

During and interview with MTV, Takashi Tezuka, the director and designer of the original Legend of Zelda video game said that she would like to see the title character played by a "boyish" female actress. Her exact quote is:

"This is just personally, it would be very fun and awesome if Link was played by a female actress, a boyish female actress."

I know Link is traditionally a dude, but I wouldn't object to seeing the character being played by a "boyish" woman. Hell, Link is a very soft-looking guy anyway. What do you think about Link being played by a girl in a potential movie?

If there were ever a Guardians of the Galaxy spin-off film, I would love to see one based on Michael Rooker's Yondu. The character was just so damn entertaining! Director James Gunn posted the fan poster above on his Facebook page, and it came with the following caption:

"#GotG spin-off? This is the kind of stuff Michael Rooker sends me at 3 am."

I'm sure fans wouldn't have any issues if one day Marvel did decide to do something like this. Also, if you didn't notice, the poster is a parody of Rooker's 1986 serial killer film, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. You can check out that poster below so that you can compare the two.

It Sounds Like There's a Chance That TRON 3 Isn't Actually Dead?

A few months ago, fans were met with the incredibly sad news that Tron 3 was no longer in development. That was a dark day for me because I was really looking forward to it. Apparently, Tron Legacy star Garrett Hedlund hasn't been notified that the movie isn't happening. During an interview with Comicbook.com he was asked about the third chapter in the franchise, and this is what he said:

"I haven’t been told it’s totally dead. Ever since we did Legacy, we knew that to have another story follow it up, it had to be concrete and exciting. Disney needed to have the right story to go forward."

I know for a fact that a story everyone loved was completely nailed down. So that was never the issue. They just didn't have enough room in their release slate. Talking about the movie, Hedlund said:

"I think it was going to introduce some things that were as exciting as Legacy was and then some, though."

There's always a chance that the film could happen sometime in the near or far future. After all, look how long it took to get a sequel to Tron! The actor went on to say:

"Who knows, maybe it’ll be like Legacy was to the first Tron, it’ll be 30 years, and I’ll have my young Flynn CGI face, who knows? But they could do it anytime from now, and I would of course jump back in. Something like that could be quite fun, though!"

It'd be great if Disney hasn't really completely given up on the movie. The fact that Hedlund hasn't been told that the movie is totally dead is a positive sign. I'm not going to get my hopes up, though.

Funny STAR WARS Art - Unlucky Lightsaber (or “Never Tell Me the Odds!”)

Here's a hilarious piece of fan art for Star Wars: The Force Awakens that features Finn with the Skywalkers' lightsaber. Seeing him holding the lightsaber in that short teaser was pretty spectacular. One thing I didn't think of until I saw this illustration was that the previous owners of that lightsaber both lost their hands while using it. Luke Skywalker had his hand cut off by Vader in Empire Strikes Back and Anakin Skywalker lost his hand along with several other limbs in a battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith. The chances seem pretty high that Finn will lose one of his hands in the upcoming trilogy of films, so you have Luke and Anakin wishing him luck. Then in the bottom right-hand corner you have Kylo Ren, who wants the lightsaber, and he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who is going to shy away from cutting off someone's hand to get it.

Ridley Scott Explains Why PROMETHEUS 2 Is Now an ALIEN Movie

Yesterday director Ridley Scott revealed that the official title for his Prometheus sequel is Alien: Paradise Lost. I believe this was done as a way to rebrand the franchise to get Alien fans back on board because not many people really cared for Prometheus

During an interview with Hey U Guys, Scott went a little further with his explanation as to why the sequel is now Alien themed. You might be happy to know that this next film will be closely tied to his 1979 sci-fi horror classic. He says:

"Well, because we're heading back to why and how and when the beast was invented. We'll go back into the back door of the very first Alien that I did thirty years ago."

It's kind of cool to know that this next film will actually serve as a link to the original Alien movie. I'm feeling a little more excited about this movie. Hopefully it has a better script and smarter characters this time around.

Listen to Sam Smith's SPECTRE Theme Song - "Writing's on the Wall"

Earlier this month, we learned that musician Sam Smith would be taking on the theme song for the upcoming James Bond film Spectre. MGM and Sony Pictures have now released the song in its entirety. It is called “Writing's on the Wall,” and you can listen to the song performed by the Grammy Award winner below. It's not one of my favorite Bond theme songs, but it will do. The guy definitely has talent. Check it out and let us know what you think.

A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond (Daniel Craig) on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.
Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.
As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz.

The movie is set to be released on November 6.

Jon Hamm Joins SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS

Last weekend Jon Hamm won an Emmy Award for his role as Don Draper in Mad Men. So what does a talented actor do after winning such an award? He takes a role as a character in an upcoming episode of Spongbob Squarepants!

Hamm will play a character named Don Grouper, and as you might expect, Grouper has a few things in common with Don Draper. Grouper is described as “a charismatic head ad executive” with a “sharp mind and devastating charm.”

The story for the episode in which Grouper appears will center around SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs going to the character for business advice. Krabs’ is looking to develop a line of frozen Krabby Patties. Of course, Grouper works for an ad agency called Grouper, Goby & Koi and, according to the press release, “when Don’s in the room, everyone laps up his words like overpriced organic honey.”

Nickelodeon also released the character art for Don Grouper below. I think it's great that Hamm is taking on the role! It'll be fun to see this character come to life with Hamm providing the voice.
