New STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT Image and Drop Zone Details

0
0

EA and DICE have released a new image from Star Wars Battlefront showing off one of the characters from the “King of the Hill” style game mode “Drop Zone” in the game. This is the multiplayer game option in which players in 8 vs 8 team matchups are forced into tight areas of maps forcing them to take control of drop pods that are set to land on the surface.

Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall offers some additional details on “Drop Zone,” saying:

“This goes hand in hand with our design philosophy behind many of the game modes in Star Wars Battlefront. We’re promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet. Camping doesn’t really pay off…Playing Drop Zone on the Swamp Crash Site on Endor is a personal favorite. The map has a couple of nice choke points but is overall very free-flowing and hectic, as enemies can attack from anywhere on that level. The fight takes place around a crashed GR-75 transport ship with containers from the craft strewn across the landscape, and there’s one section with a waterfall overlooked by an Ewok village, where you have to jump down into the pool below in order to claim the pod, hoping no one’s hiding in the trees above waiting to pick you off.”

Here are the additional details on the game:

Star Wars Battlefront will allow fans to live out a wide range of heroic moments and intense battle fantasies of their own – firing blasters, riding speeder bikes and snow speeders, commanding AT-ATs and piloting TIE fighters and the Millennium Falcon. These battles will take place on some of the most iconic planets in the Star Wars universe, including Endor, Hoth, Tatooine and the previously unexplored planet, Sullust. Gamers will be able to play as some of the most memorable characters in the original trilogy such as Darth Vader and Boba Fett. Star Wars Battlefront will feature a wide range of modes tailored for different types of battles, from larger 40-person competitive multiplayer to crafted missions that are played solo, with a friend via split-screen offline or co-operatively online.
Fans who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront will be among the first players to experience the Battle of Jakku, the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet on the Outer Rim. Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Players who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront can fight the battle one-week early starting on December 1, 2015. All other players will get access to this free content on December 8, 2015.

Star Wars Battlefront will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17th.

2 Clips From THE MARTIAN - Emergency Evacuation and Donald Glover Does Science

Earlier this week we shared three new TV spots with you for Ridley Scott’s The Martian. We now have a couple of clips from the movie to share with you that features the crew of the Ares 3 implementing an emergency evacuation when a big storm on the surface of Mars hits them. Things obviously don’t go very well for one of them. The other clips shows us how Donald Glover explains science.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.
Based on a best-selling novel, The Martian features a star-studded cast that also includes Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, Zero Dark Thirty), Kristen Wiig (Welcome to Me, The Skeleton Twins), Kate Mara (“House of Cards,” Fantastic Four), Michael Pena (Fury, End of Watch), Jeff Daniels (“The Newsroom,” Dumb and Dumber To), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, Children of Men) and Donald Glover (“Community,” Mystery Team).

The movie hits theaters on October 6th.

Here’s a fun video with some interesting little insights about a handful of popular movies that I’m sure all of us have seen. It’s called 10 Amazing Hidden Messages in Your Favorite Movie, and it comes to us from Screen Rant.

“Audiences expect to be riveted, surprised, or simply astonished when a blockbuster film comes to theaters. But what about the stories, messages, and deeper meanings that being told below the surface? Most films are exactly what they seem to be, but every so often, a writer or director will craft a hit film that is much, much more than meets the eye.”

The ten hidden messages they point out are from Iron Man, Captain America, The Matrix, Jurassic Park, RoboCop, Serenity, Harold and Kumar, Terminator 2, The Lost World, and Prometheus.

There are a few bits of info here that I wasn’t aware of, so maybe you might just learn some pointless movie trivia thanks to this video!

Thanks to fathead.com (via starwars7news) we have some new images of the vehicles and characters that we'll see in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. These are graphics that you slap up on your wall.

They give us our first really detailed look at the badass Star Destroyer in the film, which has been given the menacing name of The Finalizer. The look certainly lives up to the name. That thing looks deadly. There are also graphics of Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle, the new TIE Fighter, Poe Dameron's X-Wing and then there are the characters.

One of the most recent art challenges from CBR's The Line is Drawn is called, "Superheroes Have to Get Real Jobs." I've got three images here that show us what Superman, Ghost Rider, and The Flash might do if they had to get regular jobs. Ghost Rider is a bike courier, The Flash is a mailman, and Superman is a welder at high-rise construction sites.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted any cool steampunk Iron Man art because interest seems to have died down for it. But I saw this one, and I had to post it. It comes from artist Thomas Tan, and it’s a ridiculously fun and creative piece. I love the medieval look of the armor with the steam rising from the built in vents.

Norwegian director Andre Ovredal has signed on to direct a sci-fi thriller called Emergence. Ovredal is the director of the found-footage thriller Troll Hunter, and this next project seems like it will be a good fit for him.

The story follows a mining crew working on a distant moon that faces a frantic struggle for survival when a rogue terraforming organism is accidentally released on the surface, spreading like wildfire as it consumes anything in its path.

The story for the film was hatched by Chris Kunzmann and Rowan O’Neill, and the script is being written by O’Neill and Jonathan auf der Heide.

The movie is being produced by XYZ and StarStream production companies, who worked together on the films Life After Beth, starring Dane DeHaan and Aubrey Plaza, and Kevin Smith’s Yoga Hosers, starring Johnny Depp, Lily-Rose Depp, and Harley Quinn Smith.

Colin Trevorrow Starts Work on STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

0

In case you missed it, earlier this week, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow posted a photo of a Lucasfilm notebook with the caption, “Back to school. #IX”. The director has obviously started the long road to developing the third film in the upcoming trilogy. I really hope that this trilogy isn’t the last that we see of these characters. There’s no doubt that it’s going to wrap a lot of things up with Luke, Han and Leia, but I’d still like to see this saga continue. In the meantime, we’ve got J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Force Awakens coming out later this year, and Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII coming in 2017. Episode IX will be released in 2019.

The image above is from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but those Stormtroopers are sure to carry over all they way through to Episode IX.

If you're going to attend New York Comic Con this year, you're in luck! Twentieth Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Company have announced that the first episode of the upcoming X-Files series will have its U.S. premiere at the event! The screening will take place on Saturday, October 10th, on the Main Stage of the Javits Center. Following the screening, the fans will be treated with a Q&A with series creator Chris Carter and star David Duchovny.

Damn, I wish I could be there to see it. I'm seriously really bummed out that I won't be going this year. I'm sure it will be one of the main highlights of the geek convention. Looks like the rest of us who aren't going will have to wait until Sunday, January 24th. That will be followed by another episode on Monday, January 25th. I can't wait to hear what people think about it!

The rest of the cast includes Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, and William B. Davis. The actors new to the series include Joel McHale, Annet Mahendru, Rhys Darby, Kumail Nanjiani, Robbie Amell, and Lauren Ambrose. It was also reported that Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood will be coming back as The Lone Gunmen.

Last week we posted a series of Star Trek-inspired alphabet art that you can check out. We now have another series of illustrations that reimagines the ABCs as superheroes and a couple of villains. The art comes from Australia-based illustrator and designer Simon Koay, and he calls the series Superbet. If you want to purchase any prints for yourself, you can do that on Society6.

Steven Soderbergh‘s THE KNICK Season 2 Gets a Compelling New Trailer

0
0

In my opinion, Steven Soderbergh's The Knick is one of the best written and directed series on TV. I love this show, and I wish that more people would give it a chance, but I guess it's one of those things that's not for everyone. Soderbergh directed the entire 10-episode first season, and he returned to direct the entire 10-episode second season. Will he go for a third? I sure hope so! This next season sure looks like it's going to be crazy.

The series stars Clive Owen and is set in 1900 New York. It focuses "on Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff, who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics."

This series is brilliant, and I can't wait to see where the second season takes the story and characters. Season 2 is set to premiere on Cinemax on October 16th, 2015. The show also stars Andre Holland, Jeremy Bobb, Juliet Rylance, Eve Hewson, Michael Angarano, Chris Sullivan, Cara Seymour, Eric Johnson, David Fierro, and Maya Kazan.

I’ve had the privilege of visiting Pixar Animation Studios in the past, and it was seriously one of the coolest things ever! If you’ve never been, but wonder what it’s like to work at the Pixar campus, we have a video here for you that you have to see. It comes from Keith Laping, who says:

“We had the entire campus of Pixar Studios to ourselves, so we went wild and ran everywhere. Quite literally, actually.”

Looks like they had a lot of fun!

Watch a Teaser for Jon Favreau's THE JUNGLE BOOK

0
0

Disney Studios has released a brief teaser for Jon Favreau's live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book. This is the first official footage from the film that has been released. It doesn't offer much, but the full trailer for the movie is set to be released on Monday, so stay tuned for that!

I had a chance to see a specially cut trailer for the film at Disney's D23 Expo last month, and the footage that was presented was so good that it got a standing ovation from the fans in attendance. No joke, this movie looks amazing, and if you're a fan of the original Disney animated movie, this live-action adaptation seems like it will fill your soul with joy. You can read a little bit about the footage that was shown at D23 here.

The teaser footage doesn't show you any of the animals, but it does include Mowgli (Neel Sethi). Just wait until you see the full trailer or yourself. I can't wait to see people's reactions to it.

Directed by Jon Favreau (“Chef,” “Iron Man,” “Elf”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

The movie is set to be released on April 15th, 2016.

Matt Damon Says Jason Bourne Would Kick Batman’s Ass

0

Matt Damon recently started shooting his new Bourne film with director Paul Greengrass. I’ve always enjoyed these films, and I’m looking forward to seeing Damon back in the role and kicking ass.

During a recent interview with Damon, who is out promoting his new movie The Martian, he was asked who would win in a fight between his Jason Borne and Ben Affleck’s Batman. He thinks that Bourne could kick the living shit out of The Dark Knight. He tells E! Online:

"Jason Bourne would kick the shit out of Batman - absolutely!... Batman's gotta take on Superman first, if he could beat him, then maybe he could take on Jason Bourne."

As you know, Damon and Affleck have been friends for a very long time, so of course he’s going to say that. I think we all know that Batman could beat the hell out of Bourne. The actor is then asked whether or not Damon has heard Affleck's Batman voice yet. Damon laughed and said:

"I haven't been like, 'Come on, dude, just do it once,' I haven't asked him to talk Batman yet, but now maybe I will."

Damon is then asked about why he hasn’t taken on any superhero roles yet, and this was his reply:

"I think they're kind of out of superheroes, Ben's going to be like the sixth or seventh Batman, so I don't think there's really any left. So I'm good. Jason Bourne is my superhero."

No Matt, they are not out of superheroes yet. There are a ridiculous amount of superheroes that you could play one day, but it you don’t want to, then that's fine. There are plenty of actors out there that will take the roles when they become available.

I’m perfectly fine with Damon continuing to play Bourne, because like he said, he is already kind of a badass superhero. Who do you think would win in a fight between Bourne and Batman?

First Look At Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE #1

Doctor Strange is called the Sorcerer Supreme for a reason, but his upcoming series — and writer Jason Aaron — will look to raise the stakes in a significant way. A dark force is approaching, and it will take the Doctor embracing some new tricks in order to stop it, if he can stop it at all.

When the book was announced, I knew illustrator Chris Bachalo was the perfect fit for this character. After seeing the first pages (which you can view in the gallery above), I am confident I was right. The world of the supernatural is rife with possibilities in how it is presented on the page, and it should allow Bachalo to let loose with his "organized chaos" art style.

Scarlet Witch is Described as a Wild Card in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

scarlet-witch-is-described-as-a-wild-card-in-captain-america-civil-war

I’m really happy that Joss Whedon and Marvel introduced Scarlet Witch into the MCU. She’s a great character, and I’m excited to see where these upcoming Marvel movies take her. She has gone through a lot of crazy shit in her life, including the (spoiler alert) death of her brother in Avengers: Age of Ultron. You'd imagine she might be going through some difficult emotional times. As it turns out, though, in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, she’s doing OK.

While talking to MTV about her character in the film, actress Elizabeth Olsen explains Scarlet Witch's state of mind and says that she is a wild card:

“She’s OK. She’s doing alright. She’s confused, she’s conflicted. She’s found some people she thinks she connects with, but she’s doing alright. They released images of Team Cap and Team Iron Man. She wasn’t there. She’s always the wild card. I like being the wild card.”

She goes on to talk about her the evolution of her movements. As you know, she’s very animated in her body and hands movements while she is casting spells. She says:

“It’s not a new hand technique per say. We’re trying to grow her movement as a whole… Jenny and I have great pride in trying to make this a huge transformation — the next time we see her — of her abilities.”

So I guess we’re going to see some new things from her in the Civil War. Maybe she’ll contort her fingers in crazy and new exciting ways! Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6th, 2016.

THE VANISHING OF ETHAN CARTER Review - Tension In The Daylight

0
0

Daylight has never been so disconcerting.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter isn’t a horror game — not by a long shot. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t skirt the edge of tension throughout its 6 hour or so stay. The game declares from its opening moments that it is a narrative experience, and no hand-holding is in store. It isn’t lying, and while that is initially a tad frustrating, it teaches the player to focus on the task in front of them, as well as to constantly be aware of their surroundings. You might hit your head against the wall a few times in the midst of attempting to solve what the game wants you to do next, but those moments are few and far between. More often than not, you are moving along at a steady pace, latching onto the cues the world gives as well as the occasional narration by your faceless hero.

You step into the worn soles of a private eye attempting to find a missing boy. It becomes quickly apparent, though, that there is more to this then a child running away from home. There won’t be spoilers here, because that would be robbing you of a journey that is well worthwhile. At the center is Ethan Carter, a boy you get to know throughout your journey in this beautiful world without much interaction with him. The Astronauts have crafted an absolutely gorgeous game, with incredible sound design. The environments feature sparkling waterfalls and picturesque trees; orange, green, and red leaves litter the pathways in front of you. It is something out of a painting, and yet the silence that inhabits this place is just eerie enough to unsettle you. It is at these points that the game infuses a touch of the supernatural or just plain weird to throw things into high gear, and you aren't ever truly sure what to believe.

ethancarter1.jpg

Mechanically, the game revolves around you finding clues in the environment, and, once those are all collected, putting the events that transpired into chronological order so you can see what happened and continue following the trail. You definitely empathize with what Ethan is going through, which pushes you on to find the next bit of clues. What I would encourage you to do is to explore, and not be afraid of going the wrong way or getting ahead of where you think you are supposed to be. The game has a built-in mechanic towards the end of the narrative to negate just that, so just find the path you want to follow and follow it. Be curious, and that will ultimately help you in the end.

The game has a few surprises, and a few minor annoyances. Both of these can be found in the underground mine section of the game. There is a genuine surprise that will probably freak most out upon first sight, but the puzzle part of this area can be a bit frustrating.

It involves finding multiple bodies, namely their souls, so you can open a gateway. You have to find a number of these before you can open it. The first few are easy, but the windings of this maze are a bit too confusing, leading to some frustration and probably to some just abandoning the area all together (you can just leave and move forward with the story). I personally had to get some extra help ala some online FAQs to get past it, as I wasted about an hour or so on just wandering around the mine looking for the last soul. The maps are just a bit too vague, and could've used a bit more detail. The thing is, one of the most jaw-dropping moments follows the completion of this section and its puzzle, so ultimately it was worth seeing, but it didn't have to be that cumbersome a process.

The gameplay loop might not sound very deep at its core, but paired with the lush visuals and mysterious narrative, the game made a definite impression on me, and I'm glad I got to experience it. It might not appeal to everyone, but if you are looking to try something a little different, then The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is definitely worth your time.

Batshit Insane Trailer For Sharlto Copley’s POV Action Film HARDCORE

0
0

We’ve got an adrenaline-fueled NSFW trailer for Sharlto Copley’s upcoming action thriller Hardcore. What makes this movie unique is the fact that it’s all shot from the POV of the main character. That character doesn’t have a name, it’s billed as being “you,” which I thought was very cool because it puts you in the shoes of the main character.

The film is being executive produced by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and it was written and directed by Russian filmmaker Ilya Naishuller. He is the same director that brought this concept to life in his short films Insane Office Escape and Insane Office Escape Part 2.

The film has the makings of a badass action film that I know many of us are going to have an absolute blast watching. I thought it was interesting that Copley plays multiple characters in the movie.

You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry and congratulations, you’re now a cyborg. 5 minutes later, your wife has been kidnapped and you should probably go get her back. Who’s got her? His name’s Akan (Danila Kozlovsky), he’s just a psychotic megalomaniac with telekinetic powers, and a never-ending army of mercenaries. You’re also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, Russia and everyone wants you dead. Everyone, except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). He might be on your side. Good luck Henry. You’re very much likely to need it…

Hardcore was screened at TIFF this weekend. There’s no information on when we will see the movie hit theaters in the U.S., but I can’t wait to see it!
