STAR TREK Alphabet Art - To Boldly Go From A to Z

To Boldly Go From A to Z is a fully illustrated alphabet book that was obviously inspired by the Star Trek universe. This is easily one of the geekiest children's alphabet books that I've seen, and it was created by Carly Strickland.

Over the years, we've seen a lot of geeky alphabet art inspired by The Simpsons, Doctor Who, Star Wars and other awesomeness, but this is the first time I've seen it done for Star Trek!

If you want to buy a copy of the book or any individual alphabet prints, click here.

PACIFIC RIM 2 Production Has Reportedly Been Delayed

It looks like Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim 2 (also known as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom), is having some problems. According to Latino Review, the production of the highly anticipated sequel has been delayed. This is what they are reporting:

"Originally slated to shoot in Toronto in November of this year, we're now being told that the production for Pacific Rim: Maelstrom has been delayed until 2016--what month specifically, we don't know. The reason for the delay is also unknown at this time, but there's a good chance this will negatively affect the release date, which is currently set for August 4th, 2017."

The site reached out to Legendary Pictures for a comment, but they were told that they were not allowed to talk about it right now.

I don’t know what it is about the projects Del Toro works on, but for some reason, many of the projects he develops end up being cancelled. Hopefully Pacific Rim: Maelstrom doesn’t fall into that black hole with all of his other awesome discarded projects that will never happen. I would really like to see these giant Jaegers and Kaijus battle it out again!

The story is set to take place a few years after the first film concluded, and it might feature a Jaeger and Kaiju hybrid beast. As always, we'll keep you updated on any developments.

Captain Marvel was a cosplay favorite before her redesign, but ever since she got her new look, that popularity has skyrocketed. The stellar team of Clint and Jillian Cosplay and Photography have produced a new photo set, and they are lovely. The shot above is so good it might as well be from the upcoming movie, and it shows just what can be accomplished when two talented parties are involved. I can't wait to see more, and you can catch more of their work here

Rumored Details on WONDER WOMAN's Movie Timeline

$

Last year, we reported a rumor that the first Wonder Woman solo film would be set in the 1920s. That same report also said that the second Wonder Woman film would be set during World War II, and that the third one would be set in modern day. That may have been one of several options at one point, but it sounds like some things have changed.

Heroic Hollywood is reporting that "the first half of Wonder Woman standalone film will actually take place during World War I. Again, World War I not II. The second half of the film takes place during modern day."

This is only a rumor at the moment, but with all of the reports regarding the early 20th Century timeline, I'm sure we'll end up seeing some kind of period setting in the movie.

Wonder Woman is scheduled to start principal photography in London this coming November with Patty Jenkins at the helm. I'm really curious about how they are going to handle this character. All we really know about this big screen incarnation of the character is what we've seen in the trailer that was released for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

We'll start to learn more concrete details as the release date of the solo film draws closer. It's set to be released on June 23, 2017.

MCU's Infinity Stones and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Buildup Explained in Featurette

A new featurette from Avengers: Age of Ultron is making the rounds, and it's one of the most interesting ones that I've seen. It offers an awesome breakdown of the six Infinity Stones that are being established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and how it will all lead into the Avengers: Infinity War films. This is one of the best and clearest explanations of the Infinity Stones in the MCU that I've seen so far, so the video is definitely worth watching.

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War -  Part I will open on May 4th, 2019, and Part II on May 3rd, 2019.

New Info on Gray "Berserker" Hulk That Wasn't Used in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

$

A few months ago we learned that the gray Hulk was originally supposed to make an appearance in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. The plan was to have Hulk turn gray when he was under Scarlet Witch’s spell. So during that whole sequence of him fighting Tony Stark in his Hulkbuster armor, Hulk was supposed to be gray. There was no information at the time on why they scrapped those plans, but thanks to an interview with VFX supervisor Christopher Townsend, we have some additional information to share with you.

During an interview with Screen Rant, he explains how far they got into the development process of bringing the gray "berserker" Hulk to life:

"What Joss wanted to do was he said, 'I wanted to have a Hulk that’s this berserker Hulk.' Berserker Hulk was this Hulk that Hulks out, was what we had come up with on set. And then we sort of started talking about, 'Well what are those extremes?' And ILM started playing with a deformed body with a deformed face with one eye larger than another. You know, like crooked teeth, and drooling, and red eyes, and all this kind of stuff.
"Then we started playing with color and we started to de-saturate him and give him sort of red around his eyes and made him look strung-out heroin addict Hulk was the idea. Sort of like where he has totally lost it and he’s gone totally crazy. And then we gradually tended towards a grayer and grayer version till effectively we got gray Hulk."

Sounds like it would have been pretty damn cool! They knew what they wanted to do, but for some reason they decided not to roll with it because they didn't want to confuse the audience. Townsend goes on to say:

"We tried a few shots in the film with that sort of much grayer version. And then we’re thinking, 'Will people confuse this with the gray Hulk from the comics? And is that a good thing or a bad thing?' Eventually, I think we backed off a little bit of that and made him greener so that…we didn’t want to confuse people in creating a new character, per se, in that way. So we ultimately backed off. But we had gone pretty extreme in the looks for him."

Sometimes I don't think filmmakers and studios give the audience enough credit. The audience is smarter than studios think they are. I would have loved to see Hulk go berserker gray in Age of Ultron! I think the audience would have too. Whether or not audience members were familiar with the gray hulk from the comics, I think they would have flipped out over it in a good way.

The concept of the Hulk hulking out to another level just seems like it would have been an amazing sight to see. I think it would have made that incredible battle sequence in the film even more badass. It's a shame that they didn't move forward with it.

Leonardo DiCaprio Vs. Freddy Krueger in INCEPTION ON ELM STREET

Here's a great concept that combines the ideas of Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street with Christopher Nolan's Inception. The video below is called "Inception on Elm Street," and it features Leonardo DiCaprio as Cobb taking on Freddy Krueger. The concept basically follows Krueger trying to enter the real world from the dream world. It won't be an easy task, though, as Krueger has to get through Cobb first, and as you know, Cobb specializes in subconscious security. These two characters really do make the perfect adversaries. The video was created by Pablo Fernandez, and I think you'll enjoy what he's come up with.

Nintendo somehow made two major dreams come true for fans today! Not only did they develop an app for mobile, they also gave us the closest we can get to a real life Pokemon game! Pokemon Go is a location based game by Niantic, the same people who brought us the mobile game Ingress. The trailer looks leaps above what I think the app will actually be capable of, but if it's even half as cool as this trailer makes it look, I'll be satisfied!

Marvel Releases JESSICA JONES Teaser Spot and Premiere Date

"It's time the world knew her name."

Marvel has released the first promo spot for their upcoming Netflix series Jessica Jones, and they've announced that all of the episodes will be released on November 20th at 12:01 am. This is the second title of the four-series franchise that will lead to The Defenders. After this, we'll get series for Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

The teaser doesn't actually show any footage from the show. It's just a really cool, dreamlike explosion that includes some great imagery. It's set to the song “Thousand Eyes” by Of Monsters and Men.

After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

There's still so much that we don't know about this series, and I'm excited to see how the story will play out and how it will fit into the rest of the MCU.

3 New Posters Released for SPECTRE

3-new-posters-released-for-spectre

There are three new posters for the upcoming 007 film Spectre. I have yet to see a poster for this movie that explodes with James Bond greatness. I wish they'd do something that harkens back to the coolness of the early James Bond movie posters, which actually had some style to them. What we're getting here are average and uninteresting. They've got no style. Oh well, what do I know? I just write about movie stuff all day. I know what I like, though, dammit!

The movie was directed by Sam Mendes, and there's a chance that this might be the last time that we see Daniel Craig in the role of Bond. Here's the synopsis:

A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal.  Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.
Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond's actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.
As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz.

Spectre opens on November 6th in the United States and October 26th in the United Kingdom.

Two Guys Show How Terrible People Profit Off Celebrity Deaths

Before you grab the pitchforks and light up the comments, no one is saying it isn't okay to mourn the death of a celebrity. There are perfectly acceptable times when the death of a celebrity can affect you on a personal level whether you knew them or not. Sometimes you're familiar with the situation in which it happened, maybe their films had a big impact on your life, or you just are having a sad day.

This video isn't about you.

This video is about the vloggers who rush to record their crocodile tears in hopes they will go viral on our site or one of the many others around the web. It also deconstructs the ridiculousness of celebrity memorial pages, which I was oblivious to as I've never liked one. This video shows a lot of truth and will make you think the next time a celeb kicks the bucket!

We have a new TV spot for the fourth season of Arrow for you to watch that is called "Embrace Your Dark Side." It offers fans a brief bit of additional footage from the upcoming season. If you haven't seen the recent full trailer that was released for the series yet, make sure to check that out here. I've enjoyed the journey this series has taken us on, and it would be great to see it have a long run, right along with The Flash.

After defeating his most formidable foe to date and riding off into the sunset with longtime flame Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen (a.k.a. The Arrow) left Starling City with the hopes of beginning a new life. But will Oliver ever truly be able to leave behind his past as the Arrow, and, if so, what becomes of the team he has worked so hard to assemble? Will Diggle, Thea, and Laurel be left to continue Oliver’s crusade without him? And with Malcolm Merlyn having ascended to the top of the League of Assassins as the new Ra’s al Ghul, is anyone really safe?

Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Katie Cassidy as Dinah “Laurel” Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn, with Paul Blackthorne as Detective Lance.

Arrow Season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, October 7th.

Guillermo Del Toro Developing A Secret Movie Pitched As "WALL-E Meets SPLASH"

While we wait to see if anything ends up happening with Hellboy 3 (which star Ron Perlman recently called "f*cked up"), writer/director Guillermo del Toro continues to stay busy. He's still involved with FX's The Strain, is working on Amazon's Killing on Carnival Row, has his newest feature film Crimson Peak coming out in a month, is working on Pacific Rim: Maelstrom (which has reportedly been delayed), and now The Tracking Board says there's another project he's adding to the pile.

According to their report, del Toro is developing a secret film project with Fox Searchlight that's an original story pitched as "Wall-E meets Splash." So...a movie in which a lonely robot falls in love with a mermaid? We don't know, but del Toro wrote the script and is attached to direct. There aren't any other details available at this time, so we're not sure if this will be told using animation or live action, but he's had extensive experience with both and the premise sounds like it could go either way. Any new del Toro project is certainly something worth keeping an eye on, so we'll keep you updated with more info as soon as we hear it.

Deadpool Reads Judy Blume in an Effort to Connect with Negasonic Teenage Warhead

Ryan Reynolds has shared another image from Deadpool. It similar to a photo we've seen in the past, but this one amusingly shows the Merc with a Mouth reading Judy Blume's Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. The image came with the caption, "#tryingtoconnect." The anti-hero is obviously trying to understand his young sidekick, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, who is played by Brianna Hildebrand. Hopefully, it works for him!

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Tim Miller directed the movie from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul WernickDeadpool is scheduled to blow up in theaters on February 12th, 2016.

Watch: Tom Hiddleston Sings in First Clip From I SAW THE LIGHT

Tom Hiddleston may be best known as Loki from the Marvel movies, and while he's great in those films, those who only know him as the shunned brother of Thor are missing out on seeing the actor continue to extend his range. His next few projects include a gothic horror movie (Crimson Peak), an action adventure film (Kong: Skull Island), and a psychological social drama (High-Rise), but before all of that, the English actor is transforming into the Alabama-born country music superstar Hank Williams in a film called I Saw The Light.

Hiddleston took to Twitter to share the first clip of the movie, which features him showing off his pipes singing the classic "Move It On Over," his first major hit record. I Saw The Light plays at the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow before coming to theaters on November 27th. Marc Abraham wrote and directed, while Elizabeth Olsen and Bradley Whitford co-star.

I SAW THE LIGHT, the story of the legendary country western singer Hank Williams, who in his brief life created one of the greatest bodies of work in American music. The film chronicles his meteoric rise to fame and its ultimately tragic effect on his health and personal life.

This Nightmarish Stop-Motion Short FOXED! is Being Adapted by David Cronenberg

Last year, it was announced that director and producer David Cronenberg would be adapting a stop-motion animated short film called Foxed! into a feature film. The short was getting a lot of praise while it was going through the film festival circuit. It has now been released online for the world to watch and enjoy.

The short film was created by James Stewart, and it's a dark fantasy story that follows a little girl named Emily and the children of Chiswick, who are looking to reclaim their town after they are kidnapped by foxes and locked in the mysterious Blue Goo Mines.

This a great movie, and you can see why Cronenberg and his collaborator Martin Katz picked it up. The feature film will include a mixed of stop-motion and CG animation. When talking about the film, Katz said, "Emily is a sympathetic girl and the foxes are terrifying. There's no punches pulled in the film's design."

I absolutely love the nightmarish darkness that the short has. It's actually really terrifying. With Cronenberg on board to help develop the project, this is sure to be a fantastic movie.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Director Zack Snyder Calls Marvel's ANT-MAN a "Flavor of The Week"

$

The battle between DC and Marvel movies continues. A recent rundown of the beef between the studios includes a Warner Bros. exec claiming DC movies were "edgier" than Marvel's and Kevin Feige defending his filmmakers' visions. Now Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder has jumped into the mix in a new interview with The Daily Beast, casting Ant-Man in a pretty unfavorable light:

"But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman. They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man—not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?”

If his point was simply that Batman and Superman are the two biggest superheroes in the world, there was probably a way to get that across without dissing the competition. But this is Hollywood, and narratives like these are what help drive fan conversation in the months in between superhero films.

Meanwhile, as to the recent rumor that the studio wants more Batman put in the movie and less Superman, Snyder says:

“Only in that because it’s a different Batman than the Batman that was in the Chris Nolan movies, so we have a little bit more explaining to do—and you just had a whole Superman movie,” he smiled. “But I think only in that way, because you need to understand where Batman is with everything. And that’s more toward the beginning, but it evens back out as it goes on.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters on March 25th, 2016.

Yesterday we got a photo tease of what might be Nike’s fully functional Back to the Future II powerlace shoes. That got me to thinking about what other movie-themed shoes have been made over the years. We’ve previously showed you Pixar, Star Wars, and Avengers-themed sneakers, but there’s a lot more out there I wasn’t aware of. I don’t really follow what’s going on in the shoe world, and I had no idea how many movie-themed shoes were actually out there. I came across these ten cool Nike sneakers that were inspired by movies.

GTA Online Getting New Freemode Events Next Week

$
0
0

I don't know about you, but I'm still getting a lot of use out of my copy of Grand Theft Auto V. I didn't love the story mode, but that's not what a majority of people buy the game for, anyway. It just feels good sometimes to create some carnage and blow up a bunch of stuff in Los Santos. It's cathartic.

For me, GTA Online has been very hit-or-miss. It's fun when I'm on with friends, but I'll often just jump on for thirty minute intervals every couple of days or so, which is a small enough window that doesn't make sense to try to organize everyone's schedules in order to play together. So most of the time, I'm rollin' solo, messing around and seeing what kind of stuff I can get into. The heists are great in theory but sort of annoying in practice (at least in my experience, playing with a bunch of randos), and aside from the occasional Job, what else is there to do?

Starting next week, Rockstar is debuting Freemode Events. Kotaku UK had some hands-on time with them, and they describe them as:

Freemode Events are basically a way to have fun in GTA Online without waiting around in menus or lobbies for a Job. You'll get a wee on-screen notification when one is a few minutes away from starting, at which point you can drop a GPS marker to drive to where it starts or just press right on the D-pad to opt in for the non-location-specific ones. You're rewarded for taking part (and doing well) with both cash and RP (or experience).

Watch this:

The Rockstar Editor, which debuted on the PC earlier this year, will also be making its way to PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game next week, allowing players to "direct" anything they want in Los Santos. (Sorry PS3 users — myself included — and Xbox 360 users. Nothing for us.)

But those freemode events sound pretty awesome, and I'm excited to try them out. Here's the full list of what will be available:

  • Penned In – A vehicular free-for-all to stay inside an ever-shrinking and always-moving dome. If you’re caught outside the dome for more than a few seconds you’ll blow up and be eliminated from the competition.

  • Criminal Damage – Rack up the biggest property damage bill you can before time runs out. Equip your biggest weapons and go to town on anything and everything in sight.

  • Hunt The Beast – Players team up to track and kill the beast – a randomly selected player with superior speed and extra health – before it can collect 10 checkpoints scattered around the world within the time limit. The beast is invisible on the mini-map save for whenever it collects a checkpoint, which will cause it to blip for 10 seconds (and increasing in duration with each checkpoint collected).

  • Challenges - Longest jump; longest skydive; longest wheelie; most vehicles stolen; most near misses; lowest parachute deploy; longest bail from vehicle; furthest distance low flying; and more.

  • Moving Target - A vehicle is blipped on the map, the first player to deliver it to the marked destination wins.

  • Kill List - A vehicle is blipped on the map, once the requisite number of players enter they must take out as many waves of enemies as possible.

  • Kill List Competitive - Same as above, but multiple vehicles are blipped and players compete against each other to rack up the most kills in the given time limit.

  • Checkpoints - 120 checkpoints spawn in a quadrant of the map. Players compete to collect the most in the given time limit. This mode comes in two variants: land & sea checkpoints and air checkpoints.

  • Time Trial - A persistent blip on the map where players can try to beat the Rockstar par time and world record on a route that changes weekly.

  • Hold the Wheel - A target vehicle is blipped on the map for 5 minutes. Players compete to be the one in the vehicle when the timer expires.

  • Hot Property - Players compete to control possession of a blipped briefcase. The longer you have it, the more points you earn.

  • Dead Drop - A briefcase is blipped for players to collect and deliver to a location. Players compete for the chance to deliver the briefcase.

  • King of the Castle -The first player to a blipped location becomes King, and gain points as long as they remain King. Players compete to kill and become the King.
