STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE - New Stormtrooper Type Helmets Revealed in Photo

Director Gareth Edwards is currently deep in production on shooting Star Wars: Rouge One, which tells the story of a group of resistance fighters who are sent on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. Earlier today we reported on a rumor that said Peter Cushing would be brought back to life digitally to fill the role of Grand Moff Tarkin in the film. Now we have an image featuring three different Stormtrooper type helmets for you to check out!

The photo was posted by Donnie Yen, who is one of the stars of the film. The image has since been deleted from his Instagram account, but a screenshot was grabbed before it happened thanks to JediNews.

As you can see, one of the helmets features the classic Stormtrooper design, while the other two are different from anything that we've seen in the movies before. These other helmets will most likely be seen in areas of the galaxy that we've never seen before.

I will say that the black helmet is kind of similar to the Ralph McQuarrie designed helmet that you can see above which is actually art he did for the original Battlestar Galactica. I love the new designs I'm seeing here, as they perfectly fit that retro, 1970s sci-fi style of the Star Wars universe. Check them out below!

Funko's Vinyl Idolz Debuts Batman 66 Lineup

Funko's Vinyl Idolz line includes classic shows and movies such as Seinfeld, Ghostbusters, and Back To The Future, and now the line is really hitting its stride with the introduction of Batman '66. The first wave includes Batman (Adam West), Robin (Burt Ward), Batgirl (Yvonne Craig), and Joker (Cesar Romero). The show fits this style to a tee, and the sculptors really captured the essence of the show. I couldn't be more ecstatic for these, and you can grab them in October of this year when they finally launch.

Hopefully it will do well enough for a second wave, as there is a part of me that would love an Egghead and a Catwoman to go with them on my shelf. Yes, I did say Egghead, and isn't it EGG-cellent!

I apologize, that was uncalled for. Thanks to Toy News International for the pics.

Images and Details Revealed for PlayStation’s ATTACK ON TITAN Game

images-and-details-revealed-for-playstations-attack-on-titan-game

A couple of weeks ago, a teaser trailer was released for a new Attack on Titan video game coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita. Thanks to Koei Tecmo and the developer Omega Force, we have the first details about the game and new screenshots.

In the game, fans will get to relive the entire story of the 2013 anime, as well as several different scenarios that put the spotlight on the popular characters of the story. You also might be happy to know that the original voice actors from the anime will return to reprise their roles.

The game looks and sounds like it is going to be ridiculously fun to play. They also reveal a few exciting, innovative aspects of the game that I can’t wait to see in action! Here are the details from a press release that was posted by Gematsu:

(1) Tactical Hunting Action
In a cruel battlefield where the state of battle is constantly changing, the result of the player’s strategy has a direct connection to moving forward. In a game that offers high tactical freedom, the thrill of hunting action and fighting giant bosses are fused together to provide a new sense of battle never seen before in a video game. Depending on the tactical situation, you can proceed slowly and carefully or challenge the titan without warning. The player’s actions affect the direction of battle in a big way. This is hunting action in a new form.
(2) 3D Maneuverability and Body Part Destruction
Players can make full use of the 3D Maneuver Gear to zip freely around the sky and battle titans. By using type of action, you can rush quickly to companions in a pinch, and at times, it will attract the attention of enemies and they’ll run through the battlefield. In order to defeat a titan, it is necessary to attack its “nape.” To do this, you’ll need to attack from high altitudes and defeat titans by first destroying body parts like arms and legs, and then driving your blade into the titan’s nape. With this introduction of body part destruction, a higher level of strategic action is added to the game.
(3) Battlefield Drama Unfolds Across Vast Stages
Just like the original work, each character has a purpose and fights titans on a vast battlefield, and the state of battle rapidly changes according to this. Additionally, there will be changes within the city, such as walls and roofs collapsing as a result of battle, and it may affect the range of action players can take. The state of battle is constantly changing and the feeling of tension is high. A large number of scenarios that place the spotlight on popular characters are being prepared to develop the game’s dramatic story. It should appeal strongly to fans of the original work.
(4) Relive the Epic Story With High-End Graphics
In this game, players will relive the deep story of the Attack on Titan anime. Characters such as Eren, Mikasa, and so on that were key to the original story will appear, of course, and their voice actors are the same as they were in the anime. Additionally, the “Physics Toon Shader,” the game’s newly developed graphical representation, offers original graphics with the theme of “fusing the anime world and game world.” As a result, you can play the game feeling like you’re freely controlling a character in the anime.

Let us know if the information that's presented here got you more excited about the game. It's scheduled to be released this winter in Japan and will be released in the U.S. and U.K. in 2016.

STAR WARS: Top 5 Weapons That Aren't Lightsabers

$

0

Star Wars has more weapons than any one person would care to consider. Blasters are abundantly common, but there are tons of other weapons, from your classic firearms to bladed weapons and explosives. For this list we're going to stick to canon references only. While some of these may seems really similar, I'm taking into consideration how the weapons are used to their maximum effectiveness, their good old fashioned cool factor, and the character who uses them. All of these weapons are more than just tools of destruction, they are memorable pieces of storytelling.

Boba Fett's EE-3 Blaster Rifle

As one of the most successful bounty hunters in the galaxy, Boba Fett has a slew of weapons at his disposal. But this rifle stands out the most. Used by him in Return of the Jedi, the EE-3 is a solid rifle. Short enough to be used in close quarters it still packs a punch that can take down a mark in a single shot. The weapon is iconic, with most people forgetting that Boba uses a completely different rifle in Empire. The weapon's stock is removable, which allows him to use it as a sort of heavy pistol, and for easy storage. The iconic nature of the weapon, and the complete bad assery of its owner easily make this one of the coolest weapons in Star Wars.

Han Solo's DL-44

Han Solo's pistol of choice makes this list for a similar reason as Boba's rifle, it's iconic and belongs to an iconic bad ass. This pistol was clearly built to last, and is definitely maintained by Han pretty meticulously throughout its life. Not only does the weapon survive through three films — including an entire war — but the same pistol has been seen in some images from Episode VII, meaning that by the time the next installment takes place, Han will have had the same weapon for 40 years. If you ask me, that's one hell of a weapon.

Clone Trooper DC-15A

The standard issue rifle for mainline clone troopers, the rifle is seen extensively throughout the Clone Wars series. The sheer number of rifles alone qualifies it for this list, but we see it do quite a few things that aren't exactly standard issue. While there are smaller carbines that some clones use, it is discussed in Clone Wars that the increased range and durability of the DC-15A is worth the extra size and weight. Designed to be used either in fully automatic or single shot, the weapon is formidable in a range of different circumstances by itself. Add on the myriad of attachments available for it — including a grappling launcher — and the weapon is adaptable and dangerous in almost any circumstance.

Jango Fett's Gauntlets

This might seem like a strange one, but bear with me here. While technically armor, the various modifications that have been made to the pieces make them undeniably dangerous weapons as well. In Attack of the Clones, we see Jango use a flamethrower, a hook line launcher, and some serious looking blades, which he uses to climb a slick metal surface. In addition, he also has a short range missile and darts with various poisons applied to them built into the armor pieces. Add to that their natural protection to his arms, and you've got yourself a seriously effective weapon.

Z-6 Rotary Blaster Cannon

This was an easy choice for me to make. The Z-6 isn't seen too many times throughout Clone Wars but any time a clone rolls out one of these bad boys, shit is going to go down. There are plenty of occasions where a single clone takes out several squads of droids with just this weapon. The ability for a single man to take down dozens of troops is no mean feat. Not to mention, it's a freaking blaster minigun! What's not to love about a blaster minigun?! The sheer force multiplying ability of a weapon like this is an undeniable reason it belongs among the greatest weapons in the galaxy.

With all the weapons in the galaxy this was not a simple list to make, but I firmly believe these are some of the greatest weapons in the galaxy. What do you think? What Star Wars weapons do you love? Let us know in the comment section below!

Lea Seydoux Takes the Female Lead in GAMBIT

A couple weeks ago we learned that Lea Seydoux was one of three actresses who were up for the lead role in director Rupert Wyatt's Gambit. Deadline has confirmed that the Bond girl in Spectre will officially star alongside Channing Tatum in the film.

She will be taking on the role of Bella Donna Boudreaux. Seydoux was up against Mad Max: Fury Road’s Abbey Lee and Rebecca Ferguson from Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. I was hoping that Seydoux would land the role, she seemed like the perfect fit.

Bella Donna Boudreaux was created by Jim Lee and Scott Lobdell and first appeared in 1992’s X-Men Vol. 2 #8. Here's a little background information on the character, thanks to Marvel:

Daughter of the leader of the New Orleans Assassins’ Guild, Bella Donna Boudreaux was born while the Guild was involved in an ages-old conflict with the similarly-structured Thieves’ Guild. Bella first met Remy LeBeau when they were children. Although she and LeBeau came from very different backgrounds, they nevertheless became fast friends. After LeBeau was accepted into the Thieves’ Guild, Bella’s friendship with him was seen as a chance for an alliance between the Guilds, and the two were betrothed by their respective parents. Immediately after the wedding, Bella’s brother Julien refused accept their marriage and challenged LeBeau to a duel. LeBeau won, and as punishment for killing an Assassin he was excommunicated from the Thieves’ Guild and exiled from New Orleans.

The script for Gambit was written by Josh Zemuter and is based on a treatment by Chris Claremont. The movie is scheduled to start shooting this fall and will be released on October 7th, 2016.

Jack Kirby is one of the most legendary comic artists that has ever lived. His career has spanned from Marvel to DC and beyond. Kirby is the creator of some of the most iconic pieces of comic book art ever created, and if you live in the Los Angeles area, and can see some of his original work for yourself.

Cal State Northridge is hosting the largest collection of Jack Kirby art ever in the U.S. at an exhibit they are calling, “Comic Book Apocalypse: The Graphic World of Jack Kirby.” The exhibit opens today on August 24th and will run until October 10th, so there's plenty of time to check this out.

The exhibition is curated by English professor Chris Hatfield, who teaches CSUN’s own Comics and Graphic Novels course. In a statement he says:

“We call the show ‘Comic Book Apocalypse’ because when you’re dealing with Kirby, nothing less than the end of everything is at stake. A neglected giant of American comics and popular culture.”

The official website for the event offers the following description of the gallery:

“Famed comics artist Jack Kirby, whose work launched The Avengers, X-Men, Captain America, and the Marvel Universe, is the focus of an exhibition at the California State University, Northridge Art Galleries.  While focusing on Kirby’s later work, from about 1965 on, the exhibition will document his entire career, which lasted more than half a century and involved almost every major publisher in comic books. Comic Book Apocalypse is curated by Professor Charles Hatfield, founder of CSUN’s popular 'Comics and Graphic Novels' course and the author Hand of Fire: The Comics Art of Jack Kirby.”

You can see a few pieces of art from Kirby below that will be on display, thanks to Comics Reporter and CBR. I'll definitely be hitting up the gallery soon! If you're a comic book or art fan, this is an event not to be missed.

Join The Revolution With THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2 Banner

$

The Hunger Games franchise is about to come to an end with Mockingjay - Part 2, which will hopefully make up for the lackluster previous entry. Mockingjay - Part 1 set the stage for revolution while featuring a lot of sitting around and waiting, but thankfully Part 2 looks like it will be, you know, an actual movie instead of just a blatant cash grab.

In any case, this new banner for Part 2 (via ComingSoon) is pretty badass. It shows a giant statue of President Snow toppled as the world burns around it (an image that should look familiar for anyone who knows anything about overturning real world regimes), and naturally Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is standing over his body gloating like a video game avatar after a kill in a multiplayer session. Everything is finally in place to take on the Capitol, and we'll see how it all shakes out on November 20th. Click on the image above for a larger view.

Quentin Tarantino Discusses THE HATEFUL EIGHT and the Current State of Filmmaking

Vulture recently released an in-depth interview with Quentin Tarantino, and a lot of the conversation is really quite interesting. Talking about his upcoming western, The Hateful Eight, he also has some things to say about the current state of filmmaking, his process of making films, and a few other updates regarding his career, superhero movies, actors, retirement, and more.

Below you'll find a few highlights from the lengthy interview that I thought were worth sharing.

Asked about the Civil War backdrop of The Hateful Eight and its comparison to The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, Tarantino said:

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly doesn’t get into the racial conflicts of the Civil War; it’s just a thing that’s happening. My movie is about the country being torn apart by it, and the racial aftermath, six, seven, eight, ten years later.”

Turns out his new film deals with some heavy subject matter that we are seeing today. He goes on to explain how the events taking place in Baltimore and Ferguson relate to his film:

“Finally, the issue of white supremacy is being talked about and dealt with. And it’s what the movie’s about…. It was already in the script. It was already in the footage we shot. It just happens to be timely right now. We’re not trying to make it timely. It is timely. I love the fact that people are talking and dealing with the institutional racism that has existed in this country and been ignored. I feel like it’s another ’60s moment, where the people themselves had to expose how ugly they were before things could change. I’m hopeful that that’s happening now.”

As for the state of filmmaking, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are brought up in the interview, and how they have been pessimistic about the future of the film industry, and how the whole entertainment industry could implode if big tentpole movies start flopping. Tarantino doesn't seem too worried about that, though:

“My pessimism isn’t about franchise filmmaking. That’s been going on since I was born. You can talk about Transformers now, but you could talk about the Planet of the Apes movies and James Bond when I was a little kid — and I couldn’t wait to see those… I don’t know why Spielberg and Lucas would be complaining about movies like that. They don’t have to direct them.
“The movies that used to be treated as independent movies, like the Sundance movies of the ’90s — those are the movies that are up for Oscars now. Stuff like The Kids Are All Right and The Fighter. They’re the mid-budget movies now, they just have bigger stars and bigger budgets. They’re good, but I don’t know if they have the staying power that some of the movies of the ’90s and the ’70s did. I don’t know if we’re going to be talking about The Town or The Kids Are All Right or An Education 20 or 30 years from now.”

The director also discussed the actors he uses in his films. As you know, the guy has really helped define the careers of several actors, has jump-started careers and even resurrected some. When asked about feeling any kind of pressure to cast certain actors in his film Tarantino said:

“No. If there’s a part that a huge star could play, and that star were interested in playing it, there would definitely be pressures to consider them. And I have no problem doing that, unless I don’t particularly like that actor. But just because somebody’s a star doesn’t necessarily mean my fans or their fans want to see us work together. There is such a thing as my kind of actor, and how well they pull off my dialogue is a very, very important part of it.”

The conversation then turns to actresses, and how it gets hard for them to find work when they get into their late 20s unless they’re someone like Meryl Streep or Julianne Moore. During this discussion, he was asked if he feels any kind of responsibility to write roles for women outside of the typical Hollywood demographic, and this was his response:

“I don’t have any responsibility at all. I’ve been making movies for 20 years, and as great as some of those decisions I made in the first ten years were, I probably wouldn’t make them again. What I mean is, I really liked the scripts I wrote, and I really liked my characters, but I wasn’t overenamored, and I wasn’t that precious about them. Back then, I got much more excited by cool casting. I liked the idea of taking an actor I’ve always liked but wasn’t being used much anymore and putting him in the movie and showing people what he could do. But I don’t feel that way anymore. Now it’s all about my characters. I actually think my characters are going to be one of my biggest legacies after I’m gone. So I have no obligation whatsoever other than to just cast it right. I did a Nightline interview with some dingbat. It was me, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jamie Foxx, and they were asking about stuff like that. I go, ‘Look, I like these guys, but I love my characters. Their job is to say my dialogue.’”

There are also a series of little quotes scattered throughout the interview that I thought you might find interesting. I included those below.

On social critics:

“Social critics don’t mean a thing to me. It’s really easy to ignore them, because I believe in what I’m doing 100 percent. So any naysayers for the public good can just fuck off. They might be a drag for a moment, but after that moment is over, it always ends up being gasoline to my fire.”

On all the superhero movies being made these days:

“I’ve been reading comic books since I was a kid, and I’ve had my own Marvel Universe obsessions for years. So I don’t really have a problem with the whole superhero thing right now, except I wish I didn’t have to wait until my 50s for this to be the dominant genre. Back in the ’80s, when movies sucked — I saw more movies then than I’d ever seen in my life, and the Hollywood bottom-line product was the worst it had been since the ’50s — that would have been a great time.”

On the competition of filmmaking:

“No. It’s a friendly thing. This might come across as egotistical, but I don’t really feel in competition with anybody anymore. I’m in competition with myself. David O. Russell can have the biggest hit of the year, and that doesn’t take anything away from me. I couldn’t have been happier that Rick Linklater was at the Oscars this year.
“The last time that I felt competitive was when I was doing Kill Bill and my competition was The Matrix Reloaded. That was the sword of Damocles hanging over our heads. I saw Matrix Reloaded at the Chinese Theatre the day it opened, and I walked out of the cinema singing that Jay Z song: “S-dot-Carter / Y’all must try harder / Competition is nada.” I was like, Bring it the fuck on. I was worried about that? Ho-ly shit.”

On Kill Bill 3:

“No, [Kill Bill 3] is not off the table, but we’ll see.”

On retiring:

“It would be wonderful to make my tenth movie my best movie — go out with a big bang, or with a small chamber piece after a big bang. I think about that every once in a while, but it’s not a real consideration. I just make one thing at a time. There are a few movies I’d like to do, but once I’m done with Hateful Eight and I’ve had a little time to myself, anything I think I’m going to do now, I know it’s what I won’t do later. I’ve got to leave myself open for the right story that talks to me.”

This is all just a small part of the full interview, and I suggest you read it all because there’s a lot more interesting stuff there.

With the new Supergirl series coming to CBS, artist Jeff Victor created this wonderful piece of art that shows the evolution of Supergirl through the years, from her first appearance in 1959's Action Comics #252 to the upcoming 2015 TV version, which stars Melissa Benoist. Victor also shared the photo below of Benoist holding up a print of the piece, which is pretty damn cool. The character has had some fun looks over the years, and my favorite version might just have to be Bruce Timm's from Superman: The Animated Series. To order a print, click here.

Trailer for Nicholas Hoult’s Jet-Black Comedy KILL YOUR FRIENDS

trailer-for-nicholas-holts-jet-black-comedy-kill-your-friends

Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies, X-Men) stars Kill Your Friends, a great-looking film set in the cut-throat world of the Britpop music industry in the late '90s. It’s a dark comedy thriller that is based on the John Niven novel of the same name. This is unlike anything we’ve seen Holt do before, and judging from what I’ve seen in the trailer, he’s going to give a very different and impressive performance. He plays a music executive who will kill to get what he wants and further his career.

London, 1997; the British music industry is on a winning streak. Britpop bands Blur, Oasis, Radiohead rule the airwaves and Cool Britannia is in full swing. 27-year-old hit chasing A&R man Steven Stelfox (Nicholas Hoult) is slashing and burning his way through the music business, a world where ‘no one knows anything’ and where careers are made and broken by chance and the fickle tastes of the general public – “Yeah, those animals”.
Fueled by greed, ambition and inhuman quantities of drugs, Stelfox searches for his next hit record amid a relentless orgy of self-gratification. Created by an industry that demands success at any price, as the hits dry up and the industry begins to change, Stelfox takes the concept of ‘killer tunes’ to a murderous new level in a desperate attempt to salvage his career.
Kill Your Friends is a dark, satirical and hysterically funny evisceration of the Nineties music business. A time and place populated by frauds, charlatans and bluffers; where ambition is a higher currency than talent, and where it seems anything can be achieved – as long as you want it badly enough.

Kill Your Friends also stars James Corden, Georgia King, Craig Roberts, Tom Riley, Joseph Mawle, Edward Hogg, Ed Skrein, Moritz Bleibtreu, and Rosanna Arquette. It will be released in the UK on November 6th, but as of right now there is no US release date.

BATMAN Movie Kill Count Video Supercut

For a superhero who follows a strict code of not killing people, Batman sure has killed a lot of people thanks to his reckless behavior. What do you expect from a dark and disturbed vigilante with all kinds of weapons and explosives at his disposal as he tries to hunt down the bad guys? The thing is, he rarely ever kills the villains that need to die! It's one of the reasons why Gotham City is so jacked up. Mr Sunday Movies has created a video supercut of all the people Batman has killed over the years in the live-action movies.

Here are three concept sketches that comic artist Alex Ross created for Marvel's Planet Hulk animated film. These were for the poster and DVD/Blu-ray cover. It's really interesting to see what the other concept designs looked like.

The art comes from Frank Paur, who was the supervising director on the project. If you haven't seen that movie yet, you definitely should because it's really a great film.  This is a note that came along with the art:

"Anything that Alex Ross does is Awesome, but it takes on another level when he does it on a project that you're associated with. I'm cleaning up my files I came across these concept sketches for the cover art to my Planet Hulk animated movie I did for Marvel / Lionsgate a few years back. I forgot about them until recently. If you're like me, you love how things are created and the process that leads to the final art. Here are 3 concepts that he pitched with the one that made it to the final cut with just a minimal change. Enjoy."

I included the final design for the poster at the bottom.

New Info on Kylo Ren in THE FORCE AWAKENS and The First Order's Nazi Inspiration

Kylo Ren is one of the most intriguing characters that we've been introduced to in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There's just so much mystery and intrigue surrounding the villain. We know that he's part of a group called The Knights of Ren, that he has an obsession with Darth Vader, and also that he has some kind of connection to the original trilogy.

Thanks to Empire, we now have some new information on the character. J.J. Abrams confirmed to them that Kylo Ren is not a Sith. The director said, "He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”

For those of you who don't remember, Snoke is a digitally created character who is being played by Andy Serkis. That is the character whose growling voice we hear in the narration of the first teaser trailer.

Abrams also gave some additional information on the state of the galaxy when The Force Awakens starts and offered up some details on the origins of The First Order, who are basically the Nazis. Abrams said,

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’ What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

That's a fascinating way to approach the formation of this villainous group. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and features a new generation of heroes and villains, as well as the return of fan-favorite smugglers, princesses, and Jedi.

The film stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong, and Miltos Yerolemou.

It will be released in theaters on December 18th, 2015. Make sure to read up on all of our Star Wars: The Force Awakens news here!

"Straight Outta Gotham" is an explicit Batman parody rap video created by the fine folks at Castanet Creative. It was obviously inspired by the recently released Straight Outta Compton, but this one puts the focus on the rogues gallery of villains in the Batman universe.

The video was written and directed by Matthew Schwartz, and I thought he and his team did a great job. It turned out to be an entertaining watch. I hope you enjoy it! I also included the clean and extended version for you to watch as well.

I don't know about you, but I'm not really that excited about seeing this Goosebumps movie. I'm a fan of the R.L. Stein books, and the TV series that was released in the 90s. I'm just not sold on how they are handling the source material, and Jack Black just doesn't do it for me. That being said, I've seen a ton of positive reactions to this movie online and from friends. There are a lot of people who are actually excited about this film and who are looking forward to seeing it. So I'm sure it will do very well at the box office.

I have kids who are all about scary monsters and creepy creatures so of course I'll being taking them to see the movie like any good dad would. Who knows, maybe the movie will surprise me! The movie was directed by Rob Letterman, who has directed films such as Gulliver's Travels, Shark Tale, and Monsters vs. Aliens. Here's the synopsis:

Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

The movie will be released on October 16th, and I included an international trailer for you to watch below.

Retro 8-bit and 16-bit graphics are no strangers to the indie game scene. What was once a unique art style is now pretty much par for the course. Well, the dynamic duo over at Squishy Games are showing us that the norm hasn’t gone “retro” enough with their new title, Rogue Invader! You can keep the other 7-bits of color because they only need 1!

The unique art style is what originally attracted me to this game when I first saw it at Salt Lake Gaming Con a couple weeks ago, but once I got my hands on the project I realized it was so much more! And that “more” is damn fun! I think Creator and Art Director Nathan Rees said it best when I talked to him about his unique brand of shooter.

"I want the graphics to grab your attention at the beginning, but then I want the game to be so epic and involved that you forget you are playing in 1-Bit HD! That’s the way to get those who enjoy just a good, solid game.
"A thinking game is cool, but this is actually an action game with a mix of the two [genres]!"

Rogue Invader, as the name suggests, is a “Rogue-like.” That means when your character dies then that is it, he or she is dead. And you are going to die a lot! You start your embarkment on this alien planet with a single pistol. By killing enemy troops and destroying their bases to gather materials for upgrades and new weapons you can slowly build up your arsenal with each death until you’re the one dishing out the devastation. The level of customization on the weapons, even on this early build, is impressive. It took me a few tries, but I finally fine-tuned my weapon of choice to start leaving some serious piles of alien scumbags! You’ll end up becoming so connected to your weapon that you will be genuinely devastated when you run out of enough resources to keep duplicating it every time you die, making the combat feel that much more impactful.

Rogue Invader is part of the Steam Greenlight program and currently running a Kickstarter Campaign for a very humble $20,000 to finish the game. That is a small price to pay, and a single $8 donation will get you a copy of the game. This game has the potential to be a chart-topper, and you could be part of what makes that happen! I only push crowd-funding for projects I actually believe in, and this is one of them. The Kickstarter Campaign closes on September 17th.

WAR OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Has Found One of Its Human Leads

East Los High star Gabriel Chavarria is in negotiations with Universal Pictures to be one of the human leads in the upcoming War of the Planet of the Apes. This the latest installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves will be returning to direct the third movie.

I have seen Chavarria in a couple of smaller roles in Aquarius and the highly underrated Southland. With the success of the franchise thus far, this is going to be a huge make or break moment for the young star.

I have really enjoyed the Planet of the Apes prequels that have been coming out so far. War will start filming in Vancouver in October and will hit the theaters July 2017.

Marvel Animation has released another animated origins short for Guardians of the Galaxy. This latest story puts the focus on Drax the Destroyer, and you get to watch him fight for the honor to stand beside Ronan the Accuser so he can kill him. Things take an unexpected turn when Drax lets his conscience get the better of him. This is an action-packed short that gives you a little more insight into who Drax is.

These shorts are all leading up to the animated series coming to Disney XD, which looks like it could be pretty fantastic.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe.

You can watch the previously released shorts at the following links: Star-Lord and Groot and Rocket Raccoon. The animated series premieres on September 26th on Disney XD!

Daz Dillinger Working on STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON Sequel DOGG POUND 4 LIFE

Didn't I tell ya we were going to start seeing a ton of films based on the 1990s cultural rap scene after the awesome success of Straight Outta Compton? So far we have a film based on the L.A. Riots that Ice Cube and his son are looking to make and a film based on DJ Greg Mack, who helped push N.W.A. into the mainstream.

Now rapper Daz Dillinger is working on a Straight Outta Compton sequel, but it's not being developed through Universal Pictures like the first film. I guess you could say this is kind of an unofficial sequel because producers Ice Cube and Dr. Dre aren’t involved with it either.

The move will be called Dogg Pound 4 Life. It will pick up right where the N.W.A. biopic left off, and it will focus on the careers of West Coast stars Snoop DoggNate DoggWarren GKurupt, and of course, Daz. The movie will also include various other people involved in the scene, like Dr.Dre, Ice CubeTupac Shakur, and Suge Knight, but it won't include any of the actors who played those characters in Straight Outta Compton.

It was revealed that Dre’s son Curtis Young will play his dad in the movie, but no other casting information has been announced yet.

As for an official sequel to Straight Outta Compton, Universal isn't planning one right now. A spokesperson from the studio told EW, “At this time there are no plans for a Straight Outta Compton sequel." But Daz claims Cube gave him his blessing to make the sequel, of course, Cube’s publicist says he has not authorized a Straight Outta Compton sequel.

It sounds to me like this move will find itself in a legal bind somewhere down the road. If it ever does get made, there's obviously an audience out there that wants to see it. I would! I loved Straight Outta Compton!

For those of you who enjoy movie trivia, here's a very funny video essay that offers up some fascinating and unbelievable details about Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. The video was put together by Clickhole, and as it peels away layer after layer of The Dark Knight, things get amusingly out of control. You'll see what I mean when you watch the video.

Just in case you couldn't tell... yes, this is a parody of movie video essays, and none of the stuff in it is true.
