THE KARATE KID Fan Poster Features Cobra vs. Crane

the-karate-kid-fan-poster-features-cobra-vs-crane

It’s not every day that I see a fan poster that pays tribute to the 1984 classic film The Karate Kid. This one comes from Rhys Cooper, and it features a cobra and crane going head-to-head! It's a play on the Cobra Kai karate dojo taking on Daniel LaRusso and his legendary crane kick that beat them in the movie. It’s really a beautiful piece of art that I think any hardcore fan would love to have.

This is a 24″ X 36″ 6 color screen print that features three metallic ink layers, numbered regular edition of 90. It is currently on sale with a variant edition at the Galerie F store for $65.

Peter Cushing is Reportedly Being Digitally Recreated For STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE

According to a recent report from The Daily Mail, director Gareth Edwards and Lucasfilm might be bringing back a surprising villain character into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story who was introduced to us in A New Hope

According to the rumor, the filmmakers are going to include Grand Moff Tarkin in the story, which revolves around the heist of the Death Star plans for the Rebel Alliance. Tarkin played a pivotal part in the construction of the Death Star. He was also its Commander and Darth Vader's boss. So it makes complete sense that he would be included here.

The character was originally played by Peter Cushing, who has since passed away. According to the report, though, the actor will be brought back to life through the magic of CGI.

According to a source, "This is one of the most complex and costly CGI re-creations ever. Cushing is a pivotal plot line as he was the one to create Darth Vader and there's a whole back story that will come out."

The report goes on to explain what they are doing to prepare for this digital resurrection, saying:

"They are going through hours and hours of old footage from the horror movies to recreate his legs and feet to produce realistic movements. It is eerie to see someone who has been dead for so long come to life on a screen."

There's obviously no official confirmation of this, but it would be interesting and cool to see if it's true. If they do try and bring Crushing back to life via CGI, I hope it's done properly. I don't want to be distracted by a lackluster CGI version of him.

I'm curious to see if this is something that they can actually effectively pull off. If Grand Moff Tarkin is brought into the story, would you rather see a CGI version of Cushing, or someone being recast in the role? If they were to recast him, I'd suggest Charles Dance, who plays Tywin Lannister on Game of Thrones.

The blooper reel from Avengers: Age of Ultron has been released online, and it features over three minutes of amusing footage. In it we see the cast members goofing around on the set, messing up their lines, swearing, and there’s even a little making out.

This is the full reel that will be a part of the special features that are included in the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray for the Marvel film. As you’ll see, it looks like everyone had a blast making this movie!

UPDATE:

Looks like the video got pulled. We've updated the post with a working one, but we don't know how long it will last. Watch it while you can.

New GOTHAM Season 2 Trailer: The Villains Want Mass Panic

Gotham star Ben McKenzie recently talked about how the show's second season would be everything the fans want, and if that's the case, it certainly seems like fans want to see the villains running wild across the city. This new trailer for the show reveals the villains running amok in Gotham, with Jerome/The Joker leading some sort of jailbreak and leaning on that maniacal laugh. It shows off some of the new additions to the cast — though not Michael Chiklis' character, but we just saw a first look at him yesterday anyway — and generally does a pretty good job of getting people pumped up to see the return of the series.

Gotham debuts its second season on Fox on Monday, September 21st.

CRASHNAUTS is Couch Competition Gaming Perfection

While at Salt Lake Gaming Con a couple weeks ago, I learned that a lot of amazing up-and-coming indie game developers are coming out of Utah's booming software growth. In my opinion the one leading the forefront is none other than Crashnauts from Fueled by Rockets. It is a fast-paced multiplayer death battle that brings back the joys of old-school "couch competition." I sat down to play it while at the convention and was having a hard time putting the controller down.

The play-style of the game is somewhat similar to Towerfall, but with a great deal more kinetic energy, mixing somewhere between Super Smash Bros. and Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 Arena. You take control of one of a handful of creative races of intergalactic soldiers, ranging from typical Space Marines to the formidable Space Bears! The characters also feature a unique level of customization that you can swap out each match. You're then dropped into one of the very well-designed arenas and set about murdering the crap out of your friends. This game was made to sling trash talk! It's easy to pick up, but takes a few tricks to master the incredibly fast-paced and somewhat chaotic style of gameplay. There are currently classic game modes such as Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag, but as the game is still in Beta, that is subject to change!

We grew up as brothers and played a lot of these types of games [local multiplayer] like Smash Brothers and Goldeneye. Smash Brothers with guns is what a lot of people say after they play it.
It's just a lot of fun to sit down on a couch with four people and blow each other up. — Marc Call from Fueled by Rockets

I've played a lot of indie titles this summer, from E3 and everything in between, and this is the one I'm most excited to get into our office to settle creative disputes with the rest of my team! They have a Steam Greenlight and Kickstarter campaign launching September 8th, and we'll be back to make sure you remember that date. In the meantime, check out our interview with the creators, brothers Mike and Marc Call along with a bit of the awesome gameplay!

Tom Hardy Rules London With His Gangster Twin Brother in New LEGEND Trailer

When it comes to a single actor playing twins on film, technology has come a long way since, say, the original Parent Trap. In Brian Helgeland's new movie Legend, Tom Hardy plays the Kray Brothers — a pair of twin gangsters who ruled London in the 1960s — and it looks absolutely seamless. This is the kind of attention-getting movie that should quiet anyone who said he didn't really do much in Mad Max: Fury Road, and it looks like another chance for Hardy to prove himself as one of the best actors of his generation.

Legend arrives in theaters on October 2nd, and I can't wait to see this one.

Take A Video Tour of Banksy's DISMALAND Art Exhibition

Last week, we posted a few photos of world-renowned street artist Banksy's newest art exhibition, a "bemusement park" called Dismaland that parodies the experience of visiting a Disney theme park. The artist curated the exhibition with the work of over fifty other artists, and England's Channel 4 was able to take a camera crew inside to get video of the park's biggest attractions. As is often the case with anything Banksy-related, there's a lot of cool subversion going on. This isn't the first time the artist has tackled a Disney-related art piece, however: in his film Exit Through The Gift Shop, it details how he erected a life-size Guantanamo Bay inmate inside a ride at the actual Disneyland, a feat made all the more impressive by the intense security of the Disney parks. Check out the video tour of Dismaland below.

Nintendo Is Thinking About Getting Into The Movie Business Again

Ever since the wonderfully disastrous 1993 film Super Mario Bros. bombed at the box office, Nintendo has not licensed any of their characters for feature film adaptations. That’s how bad they hated that movie! There were rumors of a Legend of Zelda Netflix series in development, but Nintendo has denied this is happening.

Earlier this year, Nintendo partnered up with Universal Studios to bring the Nintendo universe to life at the Universal theme parks. This was an interesting and big step for Nintendo because they don’t license out their characters to anyone. It also may have been the first step in actually seeing Nintendo get into the movie business again.

Over the years, we have seen a few characters from the Nintendo universe appear on the big screen like Bowser in Wreck-It Ralph and Donkey Kong, Mario, and the Duck Hunt dog appearing in this year’s Pixels, but none of them have had their own feature film adaptation.

During a recent interview with Fortune, Nintendo general manager Shigeru Miyamoto said:

“We’ve had, over the years, a number of people who have come to us and said ‘Why don’t we make a movie together—or we make a movie and you make a game and we’ll release them at the same time?’ Because games and movies seem like similar mediums, people’s natural expectation is we want to take our games and turn them into movies… I’ve always felt video games, being an interactive medium, and movies, being a passive medium, mean the two are quite different…. As we look more broadly at what is Nintendo’s role as an entertainment company, we’re starting to think more and more about how movies can fit in with that—and we’ll potentially be looking at things like movies in the future.”

If Nintendo does start making movies based on their characters again, which ones would you like to see grace the big screen most? I think they’d be stupid not to do anything with Zelda. That needs to happen!

Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN Gets a DEADPOOL-Style Trailer

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films have been cut together in a spectacular Deadpool-style movie trailer. The video was edited together by The Unusual Suspect, and the final result is really fun, and it actually makes me want to revisit these Spider-Man movies. It's been awhile since I've watched them. The style of the trailer makes these older films look fresh and awesome.

Henry Cavill on Superman Being with Wonder Woman or Lois Lane

Wonder Woman and Lois Lane are both strong women in the DC Universe, but they are obviously strong in different ways because one is a superhero with superpowers. Superman has had relationships with both of them in the comics, but in the movies we've only seen the Kryptonian have a relationship with Lane.

During an interview with Cosmopolitan, Henry Cavill is asked which of the two women Superman really belongs. He starts out by talking about Gal Gadot's appearance as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, saying:

"Strong women are nothing new for the comic book world. I'm glad they are being represented a bit more in film and on TV. Wonder Woman has been around forever, she is an incredibly strong character. She can go toe-to-toe with Superman sometimes."

As far as if Wonder Woman is a better fit for Superman than Lois Lane, Cavill says:

"This is a very long discussion because there are a lot of questions to be asked and answered. I mean who is better for a super-powered alien, a human or a goddess? Yes, the goddess can do all the normal things, which we would think are normal in a relationship, and not have any fear of Superman. But you also need to have that baseline of humanity, which Lois provides. And literally keeps his feet on the ground, keeps him down to earth. So that's more of a debate than an answer."

That's a great answer that raises a good discussion. I personally think Superman needs Lane in his life more than Wonder Woman. She's a better fit for him. Like Cavill said, she keeps his feet on the ground and gives him that touch of humanity, which keeps him humble. As far as the physicality of the relationship goes, though, he would probably have more fun with Wonder Woman because they are more physically matched.

It would be so strange to see Superman and Wonder Woman get into a relationship in the DC Extended Universe, but it's something that could very well happen somewhere down the road with all of these movies that Warner Bros. is making.

What do you all think about this discussion? Should Superman ultimately be with Lois Lane or Wonder Woman?

New Video Explains How Daniel Is The Real Villain of THE KARATE KID

Ralph Macchio's Daniel LaRusso is obviously the hero of The Karate Kid, right? What this new video posits is...what if he isn't? What if he's a violent, maniacal villain who gets off on antagonizing Johnny and his friends with the help of that "demon sorcerer" Mr. Miyagi?

Do I believe this theory? Absolutely not. But I'm always open to hearing new theories and readings of films, even if I don't think J. Matthew Turner actually believes his own theory either. Watch the video below, and be sure to check out this piece of Karate Kid artwork we posted earlier this morning.

Vin Diesel Says XXX 3 Starts Filming This December

A year after The Fast and The Furious made him a star, Vin Diesel tried to kickstart another franchise with xXx, a film in which he played a former stuntman/extreme sports nut contracted as a secret agent by the NSA. It was as ridiculous as you'd imagine — I recall there being a lot of grinding down handrails — and Diesel went off to make The Pacifier while Ice Cube came in for xXx 2: State of the Union.

But Diesel, ever the franchise man, wants to return to his roots and after announcing he would be back for another sequel, it appears production is close to getting underway. In an Instagram post, Diesel says the movie — once called xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, though we're not sure if that title remains or not — starts filming this December.

While I was filming XXX, guys on set called me Air Diesel... The time to return has come. Filming starts December in the Philippines. #ILiveForThisShit

There's no word on what the film will be about, but a movie about an extreme sports badass who becomes a spy was barely believable in 2002...how will audiences react to that premise in 2016 or 2017 when this movie comes out? Are people really on the edge of their seats to know what happened to Xander Cage? We'll find out soon enough.

Young Girl Bullied for Liking STAR WARS Gets Support from the 501st Legion

I absolutely hate bullies. I have three young girls who are into the same kind of geeky stuff that I am, and they have had experiences with bullying that break my heart. I love that they are into the same stuff that I am! I don't want bullies to come around and make them think they are stupid for liking Star Wars, comic books, and superheroes.

A young fangirl named Layla, who is from Virginia, was being teased at school for wearing an R2-D2 jacket and Guardians of the Galaxy shirt. This is something that I've been hearing more and more about recently, which is crazy to me because these things are now a part of pop culture! But there are young impressionable girls out there who are being bullied and attacked for liking these things! These poor kids are being targeted because other people don't believe that Star Wars, Marvel, and DC are things girls should like, which is horseshit. These girls can like whatever the hell they want! Speaking for my own kids, it's part of their personality, it's part of who they are! I imagine it's the same for these other young ladies out there.

As a way to show their support for Layla, the local chapter of the 501st Legion, Garrison Tyranus, came in to help out by issuing her a set of Stormtrooper armor! Apparently the suit of armor has been passed along from other girls who have been bullied over the years. io9 describes it as an "awesome sort of Sisterhood of the Traveling Armor."

That's not all, though! She also got to meet “Weird Al” Yankovic at a local concert. The photo of Layla with Yankovic is above, and here's the full rundown from the 501st Legion's Facebook page:

Layla is yet another young girl who was teased at school for liking Star Wars amongst other "boy" things. As a result of the bullying, Layla began to lose herself. She stopped wanting to wear her R2-D2 jacket and Guardians of the Galaxy shirt out of fear of being ridiculed. 501st Garrison Tyranus led the charge and rallied messages of support from#501st members all over the world to encourage Layla to be herself. Taking it one step further, Layla became the next recipient of the custom Stormtrooper armor originally built for another girl (Katie Goldman) who was in a similar situation. After suiting up, Layla was whisked away to meet "Weird Al" Yankovic at a local concert where 501st members were participating on stage. This excited young #StarWars fan now proudly carries the trading cards of her 501st supporters in a Chewbacca backpack and can't wait for the next opportunity to troop in armor. Her favorite part of wearing the costume? She loves when people say, "What a cute little boy!" only to discover that there's a girl under that helmet!#BadGuysDoingGood #HeartOfTheForce #StopBullying

I love it when people come together to do good geeky deeds. Geeks unite! Stop the bullying!

Nintendo Files Patent For "Download Only" Console

There's new news coming out this morning that may further allude to what Nintendo's in development console NX will be. Metro is reporting the industry giant recently filed a patent for a "download only" console. From its blueprints and description, it appears to be a streaming device, as it apparently lacks an optical drive for playing discs. It could very well be that this device will not be used to replace the Wii U, but to stream content from a network for a gamer to play. I'd be all for a Nintendo classic streaming service! Is that what this is, though? Post your speculation below.

At the end of the first season of Gotham, Bruce Wayne and Alfred found a hidden door in Wayne manor that leads down to the future Batcave. Today we have a featurette about that for you to watch, along with our first look at the inside of Batman's future headquarters.

Talking to TV Insider, David Mazouz, who plays Bruce Wayne in the series, had this to say about place they found:

“It’s definitely not the Batcave. It changes everything in Bruce’s life. It changes how he sees Alfred, the criminal side of Gotham, even how he sees his parents… What is down there are clues to Thomas Wayne’s secret life and what he was trying to do before being killed.”

You can see the photos of the “definitely not the Batcave” above, and you can watch the featurette below, in which they simply call it "The Cave."  In case you missed the most recent trailer for the series highlighting the villains of the second season, click here.

Bruce Campbell Gets a Little Nutty While Giving a Weather Report

When Bruce Campbell was in Chicago for the Wizard World convention, he stopped by the FOX 32 morning show, Good Day Chicago, for a little self-promotion. While he was there he jumped in to help out give the weather and traffic reports. Once he was up in front of the green screen and rolling, he got pretty kooky, and it turned out to be quite entertaining to watch. I would love to see Campbell give the weather reports on the news every morning!

Another Spider-Man Character Will Reportedly Appear in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

SPOILER WARNING!

Captain America: Civil War wrapped production this weekend and is now heading into the post-production portion of the filmmaking process. Also, we now have word that another Spider-Man character will be making an appearance in the movie.

Heroic Hollywood reports that their sources tell them that Marisa Tomei will be introduced as Aunt May the movie. They say that she secretly shot her scenes right before production wrapped. They go on to say that furniture props of Peter Parker's bedroom were revealed last week by a Atlanta TV station. They believe that Aunt May was in the bedroom scene that was being shot with Tom Holland's Peter Parker.

When Tomei was cast in the role of Aunt May while Civil War was in production, I wondered if she would make a brief appearance in the film before the Spider-Man solo film that set to be released in 2017. Apparently, the news was previously teased by THR in their original report:

“Contrary to other reports, THR hears that Tomei’s Aunt May may be making her first appearance in Marvel and Disney’s Captain America: Civil War. Holland’s Peter Parker is also expected to cameo in that 2016 film.”

So the fact that this news is coming for two separate sources is decent confirmation that this could actually be the case. But until we hear an official confirmation from the studio, we'll treat it as a rumor.

I'm completely on board with Tomei playing Aunt May. I think she's a great choice, and it seems like a lot of other fans are on board as well. I'm just excited to Marvel's reinvention of Spider-Man for the big screen. I'll always love what Sam Raimi did with Spider-Man and Andrew Garfield's portrayal of the character. But now that the character is going to be a part of the MCU, it takes everything to a whole new level.

Nathan Fillion Wants to Take a Crack at Playing Booster Gold

For years, when Nathan Fillion was asked which superhero he would like to play one day he would say Green Lantern. Fillion has voiced the character in several animated films over the years, and now it looks like he's ready to move on to a new superhero.

At Chicago's Wizard World Comic Con this past weekend, Fillion was asked what comic book character he would play if he was able to choose one. He answered with Booster Gold. Fillion said,

"I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold. That’s kind of my niche… show-offy, vain. I think I could handle that… not too bright."

Then if Booster Gold doesn't work out, he offered up a fallback plan with the character Ambush Bug:

"I think Ambush Bug. Remember that guy? Little bit off his rocker. You’d never see my face. I think Greatest American Hero is due for a reboot."

With Warner Bros. getting ready to reboot Green Lantern, Fillion would never have a chance to take on the character because they are obviously going to go with someone younger. Fillion has obviously realized this and is moving on to other characters he'd like to play, and you know what? He's completely perfect for his choices!

I'd love to see him take on Booster Gold. He'd be a perfect addition to the new TV series Legends of Tomorrow, but the executive producers of the show have already said that WB has made the character off limits to them, which means they have other plans for him. Maybe they will include him in the DC Extended Universe films.

As for Fillion's Greatest American Hero reboot comment, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are actually already developing it. I'd love to see Fillion in that as well. Hell, there are so many things that I'd love to see Fillion star in! He's such a fun actor who makes fun projects. If he landed any of these roles it would be great.

Below you'll find the video of the actor answering these questions, thanks to ComicBook:
