POKKEN TOURNAMENT Coming To Wii U Spring 2016

0
0

The popular Japanese arcade game and first Pokemon fighting game Pokken Tournament is coming to the U.S! Kotaku reports we should see the game hit shelves stateside in Spring 2016. Obviously this is awesome news for Wii U owners, Pokemon fans, and fighting game fanatics.

The game is almost more comparable in style to Power Stone than Street Fighter, as the movement of fighters looks fairly fluid and open. No official roster has been announced yet, but the Pokemon I've seen include Machamp, Lucario, Pikachu, Charizard, Guardevoir, Gengar, Suicune, Weavile, and Blaziken. I'm sure we'll see more annonuced as the date draws closer.

I was super jealous when I first heard about this game and watching all the footage of people playing it in Japan gets me all the more hyped! See some of the game in action below!

Ben McKenzie On How GOTHAM Season 2 Will Be Exactly What Fans Want

0
0

One thing that we know for sure about Gotham Season 2 is that it will introduce a lot of new villains. There are some other changes we'll see in the series that will do away with things fans didn't like about the first season and change it into what fans want to see. During an interview with EWBen McKenzie, who plays Jim Gordon, says the series is going to do away with the procedural element of the show and make the story arcs much more serialized.

“I think we made a mistake relatively early on in trying to introduce a villain and take care of that villain in one episode: catch them, send them to Arkham, do whatever. That was just a mistake. We should’ve never done it.”

I personally didn't have very many issues with the first season. I enjoyed what it gave us, but if they are taking steps to make it even better... awesome! McKenzie goes on to say:

“The audience really wants to understand who these people are and live with them, sit with them and enjoy them. Whether they’re evil or good, they are entertaining. So that’s what we’re doing in season 2. [It’s] really kick ass. I think it’s exactly what the fans want to see.”

That's encouraging, and maybe these changes will help bring back viewers who may have stopped watching during Season 1. Not everyone liked what the show was doing, and the creators saw that and are trying to fix it to get them to jump back on board.

Gotham Season 2 premieres on Monday, September 21st at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.

Watch: This Guy Dressed as HALLOWEEN's Michael Myers To Propose to His Girlfriend

Alec Wells seemingly loves to include pop culture references in his relationship with Katherine Canipe, because when Wells proposed to Canipe, he dressed up like the murderous Michael Myers from John Carpenter's Halloween (one of Canipe's favorite movies) to pop the question. She was so impressed with the proposal, she let him choose the theme for their engagement photo, which resulted in the perfect Back to the Future-themed photo we posted yesterday.

The proposal was caught on video, so now you can see how it went down. It happened in Pasadena on the same street where Halloween was actually filmed, and Canipe, who co-hosts a horror-themed podcast called Boys and Ghouls, tearfully accepted. Watch it below:

WE'RE THE MILLERS' Will Poulter Suits Up With Brad Pitt in Netflix's WAR MACHINE

0
0

Son of Rambow, We're The Millers, and The Maze Runner actor Will Poulter will reportedly star alongside Brad Pitt in Pitt's new Netflix movie War Machine.

Variety has the news, and they also confirm that Topher Grace, Scoot McNairy, Emory Cohen, John Magaro, and Anthony Michael Hall are all also on board in the story of a rock star general (Pitt) who is placed in charge of America's conflict in Afghanistan. Writer-director David Michôd (The Rover, Animal Kingdom) will be behind the camera on this one, and the movie will hit both the streaming platform and select theaters sometime next year.

In a surprise bit of casting, Poulter was recently set to play Pennywise the Clown in Cary Fukunaga's two-movie take on Stephen King's It, but since Fukunaga has left the project (Mama director Andy Muschietti recently took over), that casting may not stick. Still, Poulter will appear opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy in The Revenant later this year, so even if all of this somehow falls through, he'll still be in what's likely to be one of the most-watched films of this year's award season.

Stephen Amell Will Fight in His ARROW Costume at SummerSlam

0
0

If you are a WWE fan or a Stephen Amell fan, you know that this Sunday is going to be pretty awesome. What started out as an internet bashing session with WWE superstar Stardust has turned into a full-on cross-promotional war. This Sunday at WWE SummerSlam, Amell will team up with Adrian Neville to take on Stardust and King Barrett.

To pump up Arrow fans, Amell shared a little video on Facebook showing off what he was packing for his trip to SummerSlam. That’s right! He is packing his Green Arrow suit. That is fantastic promotion for his show Arrow, which is returning for season 4 on October 8th on The CW.

I used to be a huge professional wrestling fan and I know that Amell is doing his show a great service by getting involved with the WWE. Wrestling fans are some of the devoted people in the world. If he can get their backing, I can guarantee that Arrow is going to have a whole new devoted fan base. Hopefully he can bring them on board because Arrow is a great show and deserves to keep its fan base growing.

I recently started binge-watching Arrow. I was never really interested before because I was never really a Green Arrow fan. However, I am a huge Flash fan, and once they started intertwining the two shows, I decided it was time to start catching up on the hero from Starling City so I wouldn’t be out of the loop. I am glad I did. The show tends to take itself a little too seriously at times, but other than that, it has become one of my favorite shows.

Once again, you can watch Amell this Sunday at SummerSlam and then every Wednesday on Arrow starting October 8th at 8pm on The CW.

12 Fun Facts About THE LOST BOYS

0
0

The Lost Boys is one of the few Joel Schumacher films that I actually really love. He made some solid movies in the '80s. It wasn’t until he started making those Batman movies in the '90s that he started to go downhill. The Lost Boys is easily one of my favorite vampire movies as well. It had such a great cast and an incredibly fun story. I realized that I haven't done a Fun Facts list on this movie yet, so I thought now would be just as good a time as any.

The information you will find below was found on IMDB. I've included my own commentary and added some photos and videos for the film as well.

  • The original screenplay originally centered around a group of "Goonie-type 5th-6th grade kid vampires," with the Frog Brothers being "chubby 8-year-old cub scouts." Star was also a boy in the movie instead of a female love interest. Schumacher hated the first script and apparently told the producers he would only sign on if he could change them to teenagers, as he thought it would be much sexier and more interesting. The change worked out well, but I would have loved to see that original version as well!
  • Executive producer Richard Donner was originally attached to direct the movie himself, but dueo to the slow development process of it, he moved on to direct Lethal Weapon. Knowing this, the original script they had for the film makes a lot more sense.
  • Corey Haim and Corey Feldman were two of the decade's most popular young actors, and they become incredibly close friends over the years. This was the first film that they starred in together, and from there on out "The Two Coreys" starred in several films together.
  • The names of the Frog brothers, Edgar and Alan, are obviously a reference to the classic writer of horror fiction, Edgar Allan Poe.
  • “In the cave of the Lost Boys you can see a poster of Jim Morrison who recorded the original version of "People are Strange" with The Doors. And when Star and Laddie are being carried into Sam's room, you can see a poster of Echo & The Bunnymen who recorded the version used in the movie.”
  • Kelly Jo Minter still received billing in the film's opening credits, but almost all of her scenes were deleted from the final cut of the film. The only real appearance that made it into the film was over Lucy's shoulder in the video store. Her scenes can be viewed in The Lost Boys DVD special features. You can watch one of them below.
  • This movie invented the phrase "vamp out," which was used again in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
  • “The merry-go-round sequence foreshadows the order in which the Lost Boys die. Marko dies first, Paul second, Dwayne third and David last.”
  • Feldman’s Edgar Frog foreshadows how each of the vampires die: "No two vamps die the same way, some yell and scream, some go quietly, some explode, some implode." Marko, when staked by Edgar, screams as he dies, Paul dissolves in a bathtub of holy water causing the plumbing in the house to implode on itself, Dwayne and Max blow up, and David seemingly dies very quietly.
  • I always thought it was funny how many times the characters say the name Michael in the movie. Turns out the name is said approximately 118 times.
  • Kiefer Sutherland’s character David is impaled by a pair of antlers and doesn't disintegrate like the other vampires. Apparently he was not really dead. This was intended to be part of a sequel called "The Lost Girls," which was scripted but never made. “In the Wildstorm comic mini-series 'The Lost Boys: Reign of the Frogs' (2008) - which helps bridge the 20-year gap between films - it's implied that 'David' not only survived the impaling but went on to create 'Shane' the head vampire in 'Lost Boys: The Tribe.'”
  • The movie originally wasn’t supposed to end on a joke. Following the scene with Grandpa at the refrigerator, after he drives into the house killing Max, it was supposed to cut to the surviving Lost Boys regrouping in the sunken hotel. The last shot of the film was supposed to be of a mural on the wall, made in the early 1900s, with Max in it - looking exactly the same as he did today. This was all in the script but never shot.

Below you'll find the original trailer for the film, and 12 deleted scenes from the movie:

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Second Empire Cover Showcases The Heroes

Earlier this morning, we wrote about Empire's Star Wars: The Force Awakens cover that put a spotlight on a trio of villains. Well, the magazine didn't wait long before unveiling their second alternate cover, and this one showcases the young heroes of J.J. Abrams' highly-anticipated sequel: Daisy Ridley's Rey, John Boyega's Finn, Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron, and the loveable ball droid BB-8.

They appear to be hanging out on Jakku, and we already know the Millennium Falcon makes an appearance there because we saw it engaged in a dogfight with TIE Fighters through the shell of a downed Star Destroyer in the movie's second teaser trailer.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives on December 18th, and Empire will surely have a lot of Force Awakens tidbits for us from this issue that will be spread out over the next few days, so stay tuned!

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's New Show FUTURE MAN Coming to Hulu

0
0

Netflix has House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and a host of other original shows that draw people in. Amazon Instant Video has been picking up steam in recent years, with the award-winning Transparent giving it a boost in popularity recently. Even Yahoo Screen had Community for a season. But Hulu hasn't been able to make much of a cultural dent with its original programming so far. It has The Mindy Project coming its way, and Billy Eichner's Difficult People is generating a little bit of buzz, but the streaming platform needs a breakout hit of its own to really compete with its contemporaries.

Maybe this new show will be just what they need. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Hulu has ordered a pilot for Future Man, a series from executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and writers Ariel Schaffir and Kyle Hunter. Here's the description:

Future Man chronicles a janitor by day, world-ranked gamer by night who is tasked with preventing the extinction of humans after mysterious visitors from the future declare him to be the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion.

Sounds a little like Pixels to me. With that, Future Man, and the upcoming Ready Player One, it seems like Hollywood is really going all in on the whole "gamers are the new heroes" thing.

I wonder if Rogen and Goldberg are stretching themselves too thin with all of these projects they're working on. In addition to Future Man (the pilot of which they'll direct), they have an R-rated animated film called Sausage Party on the horizon, as well as AMC's Preacher and FX's Bigfoot, plus whatever live action stuff they may be developing. That's a lot of balls to juggle. Hopefully they can keep the quality consistent across the board.

Coincidentally, the duo will now be working on the same network as their frequent collaborator James Franco: Franco is starring in 11/22/63 for Hulu, which is a new series from Stephen King and J.J. Abrams.

Here's another funny comic about gaming culture created by Julia Lepetit from Dorkly. She previously brought us the Video Game Jobs: Expectation vs. Reality - Comic Strip. This next one is called The Problems Different Types of Games Have, and it's pretty damn funny. As for what category I fall under, it would be "Cheap Gamer." Alfre Woodard Joins Marvel's LUKE CAGE Series on Netflix

0
0

Actress Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave, Desperate Housewives, and about a hundred other things) has been cast in Marvel's Luke Cage Netflix series, which already has Mike Colter set to play the title character. Deadline brings the news, saying that Woodard will play "a lead character listed on the breakdown as Minetta, a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life." But the outlet also hears that she may be playing a character from the comics named Black Mariah, a villain that opposes Luke Cage as well as Iron Fist.

Woodard is a veteran actress who would definitely bring some gravitas to a role like this. Though Colter is going to play a role in Netflix's next Marvel series, Jessica Jones, it seems unlikely that Woodard would make an appearance in that show; if I had to guess, I'd say we won't see her until sometime in late 2016 when Luke Cage first drops on the streaming service.

Marvel's wikia has this to say about her character, which may tip us off to how she'll be depicted in the show:

Black Mariah was the leader of a gang of New York criminals called the Rat Pack. Their primary source of criminal activity would be using a stolen ambulance to pick up the bodies of the recently deceased, and then stealing whatever valuables they had on their person. When a man named Frank Jenks was murdered in the Gem Theater, it would be Black Mariah's gang that would pick up the body. When Jenks' widow learned the truth, she would hire Luke Cage (who was at the scene of the murder) to find her husband's body, the sympathetic Cage would take the job free of charge.

How GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY's Groot Helped a Child Overcome His Speech Disorder

James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy is not only a great film, it has also done some good in the world. Four-year-old Sawyer Dunlop suffers from a condition called dyspraxia, which affects a child’s motor functions and can impair their ability to speak. After he watched Guardians of the Galaxy, though, something seemed to change in him. The young boy connected with Groot in a way helped him make some incredible changes. Sawyer’s Dad, Josh, posted a message to Gunn on Facebook, explaining what has happened:

Hi James…This is in response to your recent post about Guardians being released a year ago and the effect it has had on my son. My son is four years old and has a condition known as dyspraxia, which not only interferes with motor skills but speech as well. When Guardians came out Sawyer could only say about three words and would communicate to his mother and I by other means. When he saw Groot, something clicked inside him and he connected with him on a level I haven’t seen. He began to mimic him and he would use the word “Bah” for a lot, but after he saw the film, he would change the tone in which he said it to convey a different meaning. He would also start saying Groot for many things as well. Since that, he was finally able to go to a speech class and it has helped amazingly. I just wanted to thank you though, for a script and movie that was written so well that a four year old, three at that time, could connect with someone who had the same language barrier.

It's great to see some of the magic from this movie rub off into the world. This is one of those stories that might help restore your faith in humanity: this goes to show that good things happen in the world. We are Groot.

Will George Miller Direct MAN OF STEEL 2?

0
0

Audiences were blown away by what director George Miller delivered with Mad Max: Fury Road. At one point, he was supposed to direct a Justice League movie for Warner Bros., but the production fell apart. There's now a rumor going around that that Miller might jump back into the DC universe by directing a sequel to Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

The rumor started with Jon Schnepp, a journalist who also directed the documentary The Death Of "Superman Lives": What Happened. He was a guest on Popcorn Talk's DC Movie News podcast last night, and on the show confidently claimed that George Miller will direct the Man Of Steel 2.

There's absolutely no confirmation of this, so it's only a rumor at the moment. A rumor, that would sure be awesome if it turned out to be true! As more evidence that something like this might be happening, Heroic Hollywood's Umberto Gonzalez tweeted this back in July:

Then earlier today, after the rumor started spreading like wildfire across the internet, Gonzalez tweeted that plans for Miller to direct the movie were still up in the air. He went on to claim that he was actually Schnepp’s source for the news.

It wouldn't surprise me if WB were looking to bring Miller into direct one of their DC Expanded Universe films, especially after what a huge hit Fury Road was. Miller is a crazy talented dude, and it's kind of ridiculous that the studio is only just starting to realize that.

I'd be a lot more excited to see Miller direct Man of Steel 2 than Zack Snyder. I really didn't care for his Superman film. I tried to watch it again recently, and I just couldn't sit through it for a second time.

I would love it if Miller jumped on board to direct Man of Steel 2. I want see what his vision of character would be! Would you like to see the director take on Superman?

Trailer for the Horror/Comedy Slasher Film THE FINAL GIRLS

0
0

I've got a trailer here for a horror/comedy called The Final Girls, and the movie looks really freakin' good! I love it when movies mix horror and comedy together. It's not an easy task to pull off, but it looks like The Final Girls did an awesome job making it happen.

The movie was directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, and as you'll see, it takes on the tropes of the slasher film genre, but also seems manage to incorporate the difficulty of dealing with trauma from a family tragedy. The trailer labels it "The Feel Good Horror Movie of the Year."

It also has a great cast that includes Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman, Nina Dobrev, Alexander Ludwig, Alia Shawkat, Thomas Middleditch, and Adam Devine. Here's a more detailed synopsis of what the story entails:

When Max (Farmiga) and her friends reluctantly attend a screening of Camp Bloodbath, an infamous ‘80s cult horror film that starred Max’s late mother (Akerman), they are accidentally sucked into the silver screen. They soon realize they’re trapped inside the movie and must team up with the horny, regan-era idiot “Camp Bloodbath” counselors — including Max’s mom as the shy scream queen — to battle the film’s machete-wielding killer, Billy Murphy. Face to face with her mother for the first time in years, Max has a second chance not only to see her, but to save her, and with the help of her friends, get back home before Billy kills them all.

The movie is set to be released just before Halloween on October 9th, and it's a film I'll definitely be checking out.

Shortly after Disney bought Lucasfilm and they started developing new film projects, they announced that the extended universe would no longer be canon. Everything that we are seeing now for the sci-fi/fantasy franchise is — the movies, shows, games, books, and comics are all canon.

Thanks to OuterPlaces, we have an infographic to share with you that breaks down the timeline of what is actually canon right now. Over the last year, a lot of new stuff has been released for the Star Wars universe, and this gives us a great visual aid of how it all fits together in chronological order.

BACK TO THE FUTURE II Had Criminals Who Cut Off People's Thumbs in 2015 and More Trivia

0
0

A new episode of Beyond the Marquee has been released in which host Jon Donahue visits Back to the Future franchise screenwriter Bob Gale. In the video, he shows off several of the props from the classic film franchise including the DeLorean’s time circuits, the Flux capacitor, and the hoverboards.

Some of the most interesting things that he shares are the future and past newspapers used in the film, and he points out some really interesting and fun headlines in them that you’ve probably never even noticed before. He reveals a lot of fun facts about the film during the interview.

For example, he points out a report in the 2015 USA Today paper titled, “Thumb Bandits Strike: After Amputating Thumbs of Hospital Patients.” Gale explains that in the future people use their thumbs to pay for stuff, so there were thieves that would cut off people's thumbs and use them to buy stuff. That’s pretty twisted!

One of the other things he points out is titled, “Man Killed from Falling Litter,” and he explains how if people throw trash out of their cars while flying through the air, it could fall on someone and kill them.

Gale also reveals that that America has a female president in the 2015 Back to the Future universe. Gale wrote all of the headlines and news articles in the prop papers that were used in the film.

Check out the video below, and learn a little bit more about the Back to the Future film franchise!

KONAMI's Game Interest Survey Is Adorably Sad

0
0

Konami has become infamous after their recent series of questionable decisions. First, they gave one of their most successful devs — Hideo Kojima — the boot, and then they cancelled the much hyped Silent Hill sequel. In an attempt to get back in touch with their community, Konami has released a survey asking which of their many gaming IPs people are actually interested in. Unfortunately, two of the the IPs that gamers actually DO care about are missing. On a list that includes series as obscure as Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon and Rocket Knight, the fact that Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid aren’t on the list is more than an oversight.

Konami is obviously going to continue milking their two cash cows, so it doesn’t matter how many people vote for them, the games are going to get made regardless. But it would be nice if Konami at least pretended to care, but they don't. Gamers are outraged by how Konami has banished Kojima from his own projects and cancelled what seemed like an obvious moneymaker, but Konami really doesn’t care. They are going to do whatever they want, and this survey just seems to be a blatant, and sad, feigned attempt at considering what others think.

Do you really think Konami would make another Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon game if it got a million votes? Never in a million years! It’s not a guaranteed moneymaker, and even if it did get made, it would end up being some monstrosity like the modern Lords of Shadow Castlevania games.

Speaking of Castlevania, I was happy to see it on the list, but I wish there was a comment box where I could specify which style of Castlevania games I want. I want more “Symphony of the Night” or “Aria of Sorrow,” not more God of War clones. So, everyone, fill out the survey so we can all pretend Konami isn’t just a money-driven, faceless machine. And maybe if it gets enough votes we’ll get a new, good, Gradius game. If only.
