MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS - The Flare Virus Explained in Animated Video

0
0

As a way to help promote Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials in a fun way, 20th Century Fox has released a 1960s-style animated video that explains what the Flare virus actually is, and how it affects a persons body. It doesn't look like it would be very fun. But that's OK, because WCKD will make everything better.

In this next chapter of the epic “Maze Runner” saga, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his fellow Gladers face their greatest challenge yet: searching for clues about the mysterious and powerful organization known as WCKD. Their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD’s vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all.

I liked the first film, and the story has certainly made for a fun and intruiging movie franchise. The Scorch Trials is set to be released on September 18th!

Wanna Know Who Spider-Man Will Fight in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR?

SPOILER WARNING!

Some new details have surfaced regarding Spider-Man's role in the story for Captain Ameria: Civil War. Tom Holland is currently in Germany shooting more scenes for the movie. This is just more proof that the character is definitely going to have more than just a cameo role, which is great.

We previously learned that there will be two Spider-Man costumes featured in the film. The first will be a homemade version, and the second will be one given to Peter Parker by Tony Stark. That info alone should give you some indication of what team Spider-Man will fall on in the Civil War storyline.

According to Heroic Hollywood, Spider-Man will be facing off with none other than Captain America in the movie! That's right, Captain America and Spider-Man are going to get into a major brawl.

There's no information given as to how they will end up fighting each other, or what that fight will be like, but there's no doubt that the Marvel fans are going to enjoy watching it! I'm a huge fan of both these characters, so I'm going to be a little conflicted as I watch them beat the hell out of each other.

Watch: 5 Strange Cases of Completely Unnecessary CGI in Film

0
0

Most movie fans know that CG isn't the worst thing to happen to modern filmmaking: it's simply a tool that can be used responsibly or irresponsibly depending on who's wielding it. (Check out this awesome video essay for more on this topic.) It's obvious when directors create entire worlds purely out of pixels, but a good amount of the computer generated imagery we see isn't immediately apparent to the naked eye.

But sometimes, filmmakers will use it for things that seem completely incomprehensible. Dorkly is here to share five instances in which CG was used for seemingly no good reason, and while I'm sure there were extenuating circumstances that we don't know about that happened in the heat of the moment on set to make these happen, some of these cases have no excuse (I'm looking at you, John Wick). Watch for yourselves and see what I mean:

How To Survive an Evil Spirit Horror Movie

0
0

Over the years, there have been lots of different kinds of scary movies and horror film sub-genres. There are serial killer movies, monster movies, slasher movies, possession movies, supernatural movies, and ghost movies. Ghost movies have been around for awhile, but recently they have been more popular than ever with movies like Paranormal Activity, The Conjuring, Annabelle, and Sinister. Some of these movies technically feature demonic spirits, not ghosts. For the case study, I'll be calling them all spirits.

So the easiest steps to avoid being in an evil spirit horror movie are:

Do Your Homework

Ghosts don't just go around attacking people for fun. They usually get people because they move into a haunted house, or build a house over an Indian burial ground, or buy some weird mysterious object. So, the easiest way to avoid being in one of these movies is... do your homework about this stuff before you go buying or moving into any house. You wouldn't want to move into a house if it used to be a meth house! Just the same, you don't want to move into a house if lots of people mysteriously died there. It isn't too hard to look into. If you type in the address in google and some old newspaper article comes up saying three people were hanged while Paul Blart: Mall Cop played in the living room, then there may be a malevolent spirit in the house. Don't go there.

Play '80s Music

Ok, so maybe you're in a bind and they offer you a good deal. You buy the house. You move in despite knowing it could be "haunted." The first thing you can do is pop in some cheesy '80s music. No evil spirit can be intimidating when you've got Duran Duran's "Hungry Like a Wolf" playing. Werewolves can be intimidating, but not ghosts. The spirit will wait for, like, a song so that it can do spooky stuff, but if you're too busy partying, the spirit will get tired and leave you alone. '80s is the perfect time period for music to play. Don't play too much earlier than '80s. If you start to get into older music, it can be kinda creepy, and maybe the ghost jammed out to it that one time, and so he's totally into it.

Dress Up as a Ghost

So, you're a ghost, and you want to freak out the person in your house when suddenly you come across the guy and they're in a sheet and yelling "Boo!" at you. You aren't gonna want to kill that guy. You'll be too confused about what the heck is going on. How can you expect to be scary when an idiot in a sheet is yelling at you? You can't. Realistically, any crazy thing works here. Just start speaking in tongues or singing TV theme songs. The ghost will be like, this isn't the right moment, because what is he gonna tell his ghost friends when he brags about it later? "Oh ya guys, so I was like killing this guy and the whole time he was singing the theme song to Friends." None of his ghost friends will want to hang with him, and he'll be lonely.

Always Be in Disbelief

You know what ghosts want more than anything? To prove to you they are ghosts. You'll notice the guy who always lives is the guy who just doesn't believe in that sort of thing, and as soon as he says he does believe, the spirit kills him. So, if you happen to run into the spirit, constantly make it prove itself to you. Act like a jerk. Explain anything it does as just a random coincidence. One of the first rules of being a ghost is that you can't kill someone until they believe that you're real. So keep pretending that the ghost is fake until it just gets frustrated and leaves.

Call The Ghostbusters

Ok, so we all know there are no such thing as Ghostbusters. But ghosts don't know that. So here's what I suggest: If a ghost is bothering you, just pick up the phone and say out loud, "I'm calling the Ghostbusters, if you don't leave, they are gonna get you." If he still doesn't believe you, pretend like you're talking to them and tell the ghost they are on the way. The ghost will get worried and ask you to not, so pretend to call them back and say it was a false alarm and then tell the ghost to stop bothering you.

Find Another Ghost

Did you ever think that maybe the ghost haunting you is lonely? Find another haunted artifact.  It's not like two ghosts can kill you at the same time. They will either befriend each other and stop bothering you, or fight and kill each other so neither one can get you. Either way, the ghosts will be too busy with each other, so you can sleep in peace.

So there you go. Six tricks to avoid death if you are ever caught in an evil spirit horror movie. These tricks do not work with other movie tropes. For example, if you are in a slasher movie, playing '80s music will almost certainly get you killed. Take care, and good luck. Try not to get stuck in any horror movies.

The Name of Poe Dameron's Squadron in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Revealed

SPOILER WARNING!

We already know that there will be Red and Blue Squadrons in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There have also been set photos from the film showing off a black and orange X-Wing fighter. That is Poe Dameron's ride, and the image above shows Dameron walking away from it. The character is played by Oscar Isaac, and according to Making Star Wars, the character he plays is a natural leader.

The site reveals the fate of Poe Dameron by the end of the movie. They report:

"By the end battle, however, Poe Dameron is leading Black Squadron. Makes sense when you have a sexy black X-wing fighter. Black Squadron sounds pretty badass!"

Yes, Black Squadron does sound badass. There's one thing I thought was interesting about this. In the Star Wars universe, the Black Squadron was the elite unit of TIE Fighter pilots serving under Darth Vader's direct command. Darth Vader was the "Black Leader."

A lot has obviously changed since Darth Vader was killed. I imagine that Black Squadron died with Vader and that the name was later picked up by the Resistance when they got their slick-looking black X-Wings.

BATGIRL #41 Review - Electrical Interference

Writers: Cameron Stewart & Brenden Fletcher

Artist: Babs Tarr - Background Assists: Joel Gomez

Colors: Serge Lapointe - Letters: Steve Wands

Babs of Burnside is back!

We will dip into some spoiler territory here. It's a few weeks old, mind you, but still spoiler talk. You have been warned.

Issue #41 centers mainly on the new Batman and Barbara's relationship with him. Also of note is Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher's use of what is traditionally a Superman villain in Livewire. She's a much better fit here, and flows seamlessly with the look and feel of Babs' world. It doesn't hurt that the art of Babs Tarr just brings such a frenetic energy to the proceedings. Granted, she could draw an infographic on the inner workings of the IRS and I would love it, but her style just works so well here.

Serge Lapointe outdid himself on colors here.

Serge Lapointe outdid himself on colors here.

Also on display is the often mentioned but rarely focused on relationship with Barbara's dad, James Gordon. In the current bat books, James is wearing the cape and cowl. While he is now inhabiting the suit, he still isn't privy to everything Bruce knew, including the identities of his team.

The fact that he tells Barbara of his new position is surprising in itself, though Barbara's reaction is not. He had the job for a few weeks and told her. She's had the job for years and never even mentioned it. I imagine that might bring with it some feelings of guilt. With the current direction, it seems that might be changing by the end of this arc, but the ride to get there should be fun. Stewart and Fletcher seem to really have a handle on the duo's ebb and flow, and their closeness comes clean through the page.

Yeah, he really needs a beard. Also, Frankie is awesome. Not really relevant, but just thought it should be said.

Yeah, he really needs a beard. Also, Frankie is awesome. Not really relevant, but just thought it should be said.

Aside from the lack of mustache for Gordon (seriously, it is just weird seeing him without a beard), the book is full steam ahead on the next chapter in the life of Barbara Gordon.

Count me in. See ya soon for issue #42.

FANTASTIC FOUR Actor Toby Kebbell Travels to KONG: SKULL ISLAND

0
0

The character of Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four may be the one who suffered the most from script changes, rewrites, reshoots, and the general disaster that was the production of that film, since he was initially playing a hacker named Victor Domashev and eventually was reworked to become the more traditional Victor Von Doom. Like the rest of the cast, actor Toby Kebbell did what he could with the role, but the film basically hung him out to dry and didn't do him any favors.

Thankfully, it looks like he's still finding more work, as THR reports that he's in negotiations with Legendary Pictures to join Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Corey Hawkins, and maybe Samuel L. Jackson and John C. Reilly in their upcoming creature feature Kong: Skull Island. Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) is directing, and earlier this week, Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connolly was hired to rewrite the script.

There's no word yet on who Kebbell would be playing — in fact, most of the story is still shrouded in mystery — but he's a talented guy who worked wonders as Koba in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes before Fantastic Four left a sour taste in audiences' mouths. Hopefully he can brush that experience off and jump right back into making solid movies again.

Cool Concept Art For a JURASSIC PARK Animated Series That Never Happened

0
0

Did you know that Jurassic Park was supposed to spawn an animated TV series? I had no clue, but thanks to artist William Stout, we know have an idea of what the show was supposed to be like and how it would have looked.

io9 points us to Stout's blog, where he explains how the show nearly came to be:

Upon the success of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park movie, all kinds of ancillary projects abounded: toys, games, novelties, apparel, etc.
Towards the end of all of this merchandising I got a call from artist Will Meugniot, asking if I’d be interested in designing a Jurassic Park animated series. This was not going to be a kiddy show (although kids of all ages, including myself, could enjoy it). They wanted the show to be a mature prime time series with top writers and state-of-the-art television animation augmented with quite a bit of CG animation. Universal Cartoon Studios wanted a “graphic novel look” to the series. I came in, showed my portfolio and was hired.
We made a trailer to communicate the look and feel of the series, also showing how we would combine computer animation with traditional animation. All we needed was Spielberg’s approval.
I heard through the grapevine that he never bothered to watch what we had done. By that time the word was out that he was burnt out on Jurassic Park merchandising and all of the film’s commercial exploitation. So, it never got made.

What a bummer. A "mature prime time series" based on Jurassic Park? That sounds so cool! This could have been the Batman: The Animated Series of the Jurassic franchise. Take a look at some of the concept art Stout created for the series, which you can purchase from his site.

Leaked Footage From STAR TREK BEYOND Reveals New Costumes

One of the few things we know about Star Trek Beyond is that director Justin Lin wants to embrace the five year mission that the crew of the Enterprise set out on at the end of Star Trek Into Darkness. We're expecting to see new worlds and new alien creatures, and it seems like the movie is trying to avoid rehashing famous alien species we've already seen in Trek lore.

Screencrush has some new video from the Vancouver set that reveals new costumes for Kirk (Chris Pine) and Chekov (Anton Yelchin), and you can head there to see some images from the set as well. The images — which we won't post here, but you can see at SC — mostly look like screencaps from this video, which features Pine, Yelchin, Simon Pegg, and Sofia Boutella (Samuel L. Jackson's knife-legged sidekick in Kingsman: The Secret Service) emerging from some sort of spaceship. Most sci-fi clothing doesn't strike me as something I'd like to wear in real life, but those blue and yellow jackets have me rethinking that stance.

Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 8th, 2016.

Watch: Supercut of Improbable Weapons Used in Action Movies

0

One of the criteria I use to judge whether an action movies is successful is whether it pushes the boundaries and tries to do something we haven't seen before. That doesn't automatically mean that the film will be good, of course, but if it accomplishes that feat, at least it'll probably be memorable.

The team at Burger Fiction has put together a supercut of improbable weapons used in action movies, and when I heard about this list, the hose Jason Statham uses to dispatch his enemeies in Transporter 2 immediately came to mind. I was glad to see that make the cut, and in fact Statham makes multiple appearances in this supercut, reminding me that I need to go rewatch the first two movies in that franchise again. Check this out, action film fans, and read the full list below:

Hugh Jackman May Star in Lionsgate's THE ODYSSEY

0
0

What is Hugh Jackman going to do once he's finished playing Wolverine? Well, if all goes well, he may step into the role of another heroic franchise — although one that takes place long before Logan would have walked the Earth.

The Wrap reports that Jackman is in early talks to star as the ancient Greek mythological hero Odysseus in Lionsgate's The Odyssey, which is based on Homer's epic poem. For those who aren't familiar with the story, it follows a soldier who spends ten long years desperately trying to return to his wife and son after fighting in the Trojan War. But the sea god Poseidon cursed his voyage, sending him on detour after detour that he must overcome in order to finally make it home. Odysseus is one of the most persistent characters in all of literature.

Sean Bean portrayed the character in 2004's Troy, which told the story of The Illiad and chronicled the events of the Trojan War. I remember watching a 1997 made-for-TV version of The Odyssey in grade school Armand Assante in the lead role, and despite how cheesy it was, it made me want to study ancient cultures, so I went on to get a minor in classical studies (essentially the study of Greek and Roman civilizations) in college. The Odyssey is an important story for me, and Jackman has the gravitas, physicality, and smoldering determination to make a fantastic Odysseus.

Francis Lawrence is set to direct, Peter Craig will write the script, and Nina Jacobson is producing, marking a reunion with the studio and filmmaking team behind The Hunger Games sequels. The studio wants to turn this into a franchise, and they may end up doing a loose remake of Troy by eventually adapting The Iliad as a prequel to The Odyssey. Let's just hope they don't end up splitting the movies into two parts like they love doing, because that never seems to work out well.

Why Do We Love Horror Movies?

0
0

Movies are one of the greatest forms of entertainment. You can get an interesting story in a couple hours, and now-a-days, some pretty great visuals. So why do people enjoy horror movies? Is it the feeling of suspense, the buildup to the inevitable scare? Is it the visceral murdering of people, like watching a car accident, where you just can't look away? Or is it something else entirely? Maybe a story that teaches us a lesson in an intense and sometimes gory way?

For me, it's a lot of those things. Horror movies do several things really well: mood music (tense, typically), carefully placed visuals and camera angles, and crafting an interesting story that doesn't typically feel bogged down by itself. The music in a horror movie is one of the most important aspects of the feeling of suspense. Go watch a horror movie on mute: you will still get hit by some of the jump scares but, for the most part, it's actually pretty boring. The music basically tells you when to be afraid. If they're building up to a jump scare, the music will slowly pick up until the jump. Simple, but an incredibly effective way to make the scare work. The lack of music can also be pretty interesting. If there is no music, that also helps build up to the scare. If there is a sudden drop or silence, you know something is coming.

Horror movies are also extremely efficient at the use of camera angles and lighting. More often than not, withholding something is the most effective form of visuals. Look at Insidious for example: the first 2/3rds of the movie are incredibly intense, in great part because you don't ever get a good look at the monster in the movie. I'm a HUGE fan of this method. There are countless movies where this works, and recently this method has found a new home in the style of found footage horror. With such a narrow view of events, it's easy to limit the visuals. Ghost movies are great for this — shadows in a hallway, a scratch on the floor, subtle queues that your monster is there, but not clearly visible.

Story in horror films is typically a simple affair. Person/people enter a situation, shit gets crazy, they do stupid things, shit gets even MORE crazy, people die, escape attempts, etc. There are of course variations, but horror film storylines are often pretty predictable. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. That predictability brings familiarity, which makes it comfortable to watch, as strange as that sounds. But the real charge comes when you have a deviation from the familiar. When someone you don't expect dies, or is the killer, or when a third party intervenes — the twist is what makes a horror movie great. Cabin in the Woods, Signs, Saw, The Sixth Sense, The Mist...there are countless horror movies with great twist endings. Because while the familiar will keep drawing us in, we stay for the twist.

But there is also a scientific explanation for why we love horror movies. The fight or flight response is an age old one, and can save your life in the right situations, but it causes the brain to produce glutamate which triggers this response. For some people the beginning of their fight or flight response creates both adrenaline and dopamine, which can make you feel pretty damn good. Not everyone reacts this way (which is why your friend Steve legitimately doesn't like haunted houses), but for the people who have this reaction, it can be a powerful reward to the feeling of fear. Weird, right? Some people actually enjoy being afraid. But some behaviorists think that this may actually desensitize our fight or flight response, slowing our reactions in real-life threatening situations. So horror movies may actually be hurting us in the long run.

But then again, maybe they're just good old fashioned fun.

Peter Capaldi on the End of His Run as The Doctor in DOCTOR WHO

0
0

With Doctor Who season nine just around the corner, we are going to be getting a lot of opportunities to hear from the stars of the show to get us pumped for what is to come. In a recent interview with the Mirror, Peter Capaldi gave us a little insight into how his wife handles him playing one of geekdom's most iconic characters and how long he plans to stay in the role.

It has been said that Capaldi’s wife doesn’t allow him to watch Doctor Who at home. This is what he had to say about it:

"I still watch the shows on my day off. It’s great because I phone the office, ask for an episode, there’s a knock at the trailer and it’s presented. They don’t think I am an iconic character at home. That’s the difficulty. When I go home on a weekend I still have to make my own coffee."

I know how the poor guy feels, not that I am by any means an iconic character, but I too have a hard time getting a chance to watch Doctor Who at home. Oh well.

He also went on to talk about how the show has affected his life:

"I live near where they record the music. The first thing they said was, ‘This is your theme’. I got all teary. I know I’m over the top but I never thought I would hear that. I use music to get into character sometimes including precious Doctor Who soundtracks."

Here is where things get interesting. Capaldi was asked how long he could play the role of the Doctor:

"I sort of enjoy this position I am in with a kind of deep Scottish melancholy because I know it has to end one day. I will cross that bridge when we come to it, which may be sooner rather than later."

WHAT THE CRAP DOES THAT MEAN? Is this going to be his last season as the Doctor? I feel like we just went through this. This season hasn’t even started, and it looks like we are nearing the end of Capaldi’s run.

Let the speculation begin! Will the new Doctor be old and grouchy or young and chipper? Man or woman? English, Scottish, or Irish? I hate this game because I hate not knowing, and guessing only makes it worse. As always, we will keep you posted on any further developments.

Classic Looking Wedding Cake Has a Heroic Secret Identity

The bride is a tradition girl who always dreamed of her perfect white wedding cake. The groom is a geek who always wanted his comic book themed wedding cake. So what did they do? Like any couple in a successful relationship, they came to a compromise and had the beautiful white cake made with a heroic secret identity. As you can see, underneath that classic looking wedding cake is a superhero themed cake. I’ve never seen a wedding cake like this before, and I love the concept. It's nice and formal in the front, but all party in the back.

Marvel’s Mockingbird Series, MARVEL’S MOST WANTED, Gets a Pilot Order

marvels-mockingbird-series-marvels-most-wanted-gets-a-pilot-order

Remember that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff series featuring Adrianne Palicki’s Mockingbird that was in development? Well, ABC has officially given it a pilot order. The series will be called Marvel’s Most Wanted, and it will also feature Nick Blood’s Lance Hunter character.

According to the report, this is not really considered a spinoff series. They explain that it will be an “entirely new project solely focused on the two characters to continue their story.” No plot details have been revealed, but it will follow the continuing adventures of these two characters.

S.H.I.E.L.D. producers Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski created the project, and they will be co-writing the pilot. They will serve as the series’ showrunners and executive produce it with Marvel’s head of TV Jeph Loeb.

S.H.I.E.L.D. is one of those shows that has not been consistently good. I’m not as big of a fan as I thought I would be of it, but I do hope that Marvel's Most Wanted ends up being a better series. If not, then it’s one less show I have to watch.

There’s no word on when we might see this series, or how they will introduce it. So stay tuned for info as it becomes available.

Patrick Stewart Reveals His Favorite Episode of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION

0
0

Star Trek: The Next Generation had 176 episodes, and most of them were really freakin’ good! It might be hard for anyone to choose a favorite, but Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Pickard, didn’t hesitate when he was asked what he favorite episode was during a recent Reddit AMA

He revealed that his favorite episode was 1992’s “The Inner Light,” and he goes on to explain why:

“My favorite episode is ‘Inner Light.’ It was a beautiful script, which for me was almost entirely located away from the Enterprise—and it's crew! And because I was given the chance to perform what Picard would have been like if his life experience had been different. But another important reason is that I had a son in that episode who was played by my son, Daniel Stewart.”

This was a very different episode from the standard sci-fi formula that the series followed, so it makes sense that this one would stick out. The episode also won a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation after it first aired. I think it’s about time that I revisit this series. It’s been way too long since I’ve watched it.

I included a clip from "The Inner Light" below, which was episode 25 of the 5th season.

Christian Bale To Star In Michael Mann’s FERRARI Film

0

Christian Bale is set to star in Michael Mann’s Ferrari movie, and the actor will play the Italian car magnate Enzo Ferrari. Mann has been working on getting this film onto the being screen for about 15 years. According to Deadline, it will finally shoot next summer.

The movie is a passion project for the director, and it’s also the perfect film for him to take on. The film is based on the book, Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferarri, and their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans by A.J. Baimes, and is said to tell the "true automotive story." It was previously reported that the movie would be called Go Like Hell

The story will take place in 1957, “a year where passion, failure, success and death and life all collided.” This seems like it will make for a solid flick. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a film from Mann that has truly impressed me, but some of my favorite films that he’s made include The Last Of The Mohicans, The Insider, Collateral, and Heat.

Mann and Bale previously teamed up on 2009’s Public Enemies, which was OK but ultimately a disappointment. Mann needs another great film under his belt, and this movie seems like it has the most potential for that.

Here’s the synopsis of the book that the film is based on:

By the early 1960s, the Ford Motor Company, built to bring automobile transportation to the masses, was falling behind. Young Henry Ford II, who had taken the reins of his grandfather’s company with little business experience to speak of, knew he had to do something to shake things up. Baby boomers were taking to the road in droves, looking for speed not safety, style not comfort. Meanwhile, Enzo Ferrari, whose cars epitomized style, lorded it over the European racing scene. He crafted beautiful sports cars, "science fiction on wheels," but was also called "the Assassin" because so many drivers perished while racing them.
"Go Like Hell" tells the remarkable story of how Henry Ford II, with the help of a young visionary named Lee Iacocca and a former racing champion turned engineer, Carroll Shelby, concocted a scheme to reinvent the Ford company. They would enter the high-stakes world of European car racing, where an adventurous few threw safety and sanity to the wind. They would design, build, and race a car that could beat Ferrari at his own game at the most prestigious and brutal race in the world, something no American car had ever done.
"Go Like Hell" transports readers to a risk-filled, glorious time in this brilliant portrait of a rivalry between two industrialists, the cars they built, and the "pilots" who would drive them to victory, or doom.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Empire Cover Puts The Villains Front and Center

Last week, Entertainment Weekly spread out a bunch of stories related to Star Wars: The Force Awakens so fans got a lot of new information to chew on. Now Empire Magazine is here with a new Star Wars-themed cover, and we hope they a similar amount of new information to share with us over the coming days.

The cover features the trio of baddies from the movie, including Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma, Domnhall Gleeson's General Hux, and Adam Driver's Kylo Ren, who's wielding that crossguard lightsaber. The image itself isn't too awe-inspiring, but we're hoping this is just a small tease of what's to come.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters December 18, 2015. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, and features a cast including actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker. The film is being produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk, and John Williams returns as the composer.

Ice Cube and His Son May Team Up For L.A. Riots Thriller

0

Ice Cube and his son O’Shea Jackson Jr. blew up the box office with their hit Straight Outta Compton, and now they might be teaming up again for another film project. The movie is called April 29, 1992, and it’s a thriller that will revolve around the L.A. riots, which were briefly touched on in Straight Outta Compton.

Donovan Marsh is directing the film from a script by Sascha Penn. It will tell the story of an ex-criminal (Cube) “who must save his son when a group of thugs raid his place of work in the hopes to steal an expensive amount of platinum.”

THR reports that the younger Jackson’s acting “generated strong reviews and convinced the studio a father-son team-up was feasible. Insiders, however, caution that talks are in the early stages and deals may not make.”

Three years ago, Justin Lin (Fast and Furious franchise) was going to direct an L.A. riots film, but I haven’t heard anything since it was announced, so it’s most likely not happening anymore.

I remember when the L.A. riots happened. I was watching the events unfold on TV, I remember seeing fiery smoke rising from the city when I went outside. It was crazy. The riots ignited after the four LAPD officers charged with beating Rodney King were acquitted. Fifty-three people were killed, two thousand were injured, and there was over $1 billion dollars in property damage.

What do you all think about Ice Cube and his son possibly taking on this film project?
