Full Update On KINGDOM HEARTS 3 From D23

The Disney Interactive Panel at the D23 Expo on Sunday started off with a bang, opening the whole presentation by bringing out executive producer Shinji Hashimoto to show off something new for Kingdom Hearts 3. He started by touching on what we saw in the E3 trailer, specifically the new Attraction Flow moves and the transformable Keyblades. The new Attraction Flow system will be a set of super powerful moves inspired by some of the most iconic Disney attractions from all over the globe. Examples shown have been Alice in Wonderland’s Tea Cups and the Disneyland Railroad. While at first fans speculated that these will just be flash Real Time Events (mashing buttons when it tells you to mash buttons), they will actually be standalone moves that the player actually controls, adding depth and complexity to their use.

In the way of transformable Keyblades, we learned that every single Keyblade will have its own transformation, adding to the unique and customizable gameplay each player chooses. Some Keyblades transform into projectile weapons, while others will get quick bursts of more power and further sweeping attacks. I love the amount of depth going into the changes of this game to make it feel like the next truly definitive title in the franchise.

And finally, the big news drop that everyone is talking about is the announcement of another new world! At E3, we saw the world of Tangled added to the roster, and now we know we will get to explore the bustling streets of Big Hero 6’s San Fransokyo! I am insanely stoked for this! A few months ago, I made a list of all the new worlds I want to see in Kingdom Hearts 3, and so far each new announcement has been on my list! This game is clearly being made with a lot of love and respect for its fans. A single piece of concept art was shown at the panel of Sora riding on the back of an armored Baymax going up against what appears to be a Heartless Baymax boss high above the city of San Fransokyo. Hashimoto explained that the story will take place after the events of the film, with Hiro and his band of do-gooders keeping the streets of their city safe with the new model of Baymax. But something happens when the rift opens back up and the original model of Baymax, now possessed by the Heartless, returns to wreak havoc! That sounds AWESOME! I can not begin to tell you how incredibly stoked I am for another true entry in the Kingdom Hearts saga! Kingdom Hearts 2 has been and forever will be one of my all-time favorite games, and I’m happy to see Square Enix is giving the fans the game they truly want.

Warner Bros. Sets Animated SCOOBY-DOO Film For Release in 2018

The two live-action Scooby-Doo films from 2002 and 2004 are now probably best known to geek audiences as trivia answers to the question, "Which two films did Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn write that were based on a beloved cartoon series?" But Warner Bros. doesn't seem interested in rebooting the character in live action; instead, they're making a rare move for a studio these days and investing in an animated movie that's set for theatrical release.

THR reports that animation veteran Tony Cervone will direct, while Charles Roven (The Dark Knight trilogy) and Richard Suckle — who produced the live action films — will produce alongside new addition Allison Abbate (Frankenweenie, The LEGO Movie, The Iron Giant). Matt Lieberman wrote the script, and Phineas and Ferb co-creator Dan Povenmire will reportedly be involved in some kind of creative capacity.

With Disney and many other studios mining their own animated archives and the public domain for properties to turn into live action features, it's somewhat surprising that WB would be interested in an animated feature — especially a hand-drawn animated feature instead of a CG one. (Considering Cervone recently directed Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery, which was traditionally animated, it's probably safe to say that's going to be the same style applied to this new feature.) People often decry studios for letting hand-drawn animation fall by the wayside, so WB should be praised for investing in something greater than the typical direct-to-video market.

Update: I forgot to mention that WB is hoping that this movie will pave the way for future animated films featuring characters in the Hanna-Barbera universe, so we'll have to check back in a few years from now and see whether or not those plans succeeded or failed.

The untitled Scooby-Doo animated film will arrive on September 21st, 2018. To see the show's opening credits recreated in GTA V, click here.

Full Update on Disney Infinity 3.0 From D23

If the Disney Interactive Panel at D23 on Sunday started with a bang, it then ended with an equally loud bang. Disney Infinity 3.0 took center stage and introduced us to the last bit of news before its upcoming release!

DisneyInfinity_GoodDinosaur.jpg
DisneyInfinity_Zootopia.jpg

We got a glimpse at some of the new upcoming figures, including the previously unannounced Spot from Disney and Pixar’s upcoming film The Good Dinosaur. We also saw a set of Power Discs that will bring some of the film's amazingly unique dinosaur characters into the Toy Box as rideable mounts. After seeing the T-Rex Family in the animated features panel a couple of days earlier, I can’t wait to see what it’ll be like having them in Disney Infinity. Then we saw our first look at the two main characters from Disney’s upcoming Zootopia, Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, whose figures look amazing!

Marvel got some love on the stage as well, as the first Marvel Playset for Disney Infinity 3.0 was introduced. We’d already seen the two new figures, Hulk Buster Iron Man and Ultron, but the name of the Playset was revealed on stage to be Marvel Battlegrounds, and we saw a short video demonstrating the two characters in action.

For a fun reveal for the Ultimate Unlock (a special reward you get in-game only if you have all the new figures for that iteration), they brought Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto back on stage who very eagerly revealed the addition of a Keyblade as a new weapon. Shortly after that, it was revealed that along with an early release of the Disney Infinity 3.0 Mickey figure that everyone was leaving the hall with that day, we were receiving a Kingdom Hearts 3 “King Mickey” Power Disc exclusive only to D23. No doubt this collector’s item is going to be fetching a pretty penny online.

Star Wars-wise, we saw a lot of the same things we’d already seen, but there were a couple of major announcements. The first was that limited releases of special edition figures would be released with lightsabers with real light up effects when placed on the gamepad. This adds a cool new level of collectability to the already high-demand Star Wars figures! And lastly, in a huge reveal as people were literally already clambering out the doors to get their free Mickey figure, they announced the first two Star Wars: The Force Awakens figures on stage and handed them to the actors themselves, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. In classic “look how cool we are and we love our fans” fashion, they came down off stage and signed and handed the figures to two young Star Wars fans. It was an incredibly adorable and endearing affair, especially since Boyega had just talked about how amazing it was that an action figure of himself existed.

Disney Infinity 3.0 hits store shelves on August 28th, and it keeps looking cooler and cooler.

The Blob May Return in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

I haven't read an X-Men comic in years, but I don't really remember The Blob being a favorite character in the comic community. He seems like the kind of character that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby came up with five minutes before they had a pitch meeting with their bosses, and they were basically just trying to meet a quota of characters for the day. The character appeared in live action once before in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (as played by actor Kevin Durand), but everything in that entire movie is probably best forgotten, so let's move on.

Gamesradar seems to think that a recently posted Instagram photo means that The Blob will make an appearance in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. Why? Well, because some random guy says so. Benofk_funko seems to have visited the set of the film, and in his description of a photo, there's a brief mention of The Blob.

Back from the #footage of #akkaba #xmenapocalypse at #montreal #mtl #canada #quebec 4 crazy days with #benhardy #JenniferLawrence #cody aka #nightcrawler and #thebeast #beast with also #blob too man I will remember those days for the rest of my life !!! Thanks #melsstudios. Folks be rdy for May 26 2016 :P #marvel

In the comments, the user claims that the character will be played by a 540 pound French Canadian actor, but it's unclear who that would be or even if this guy's claim is legit. Consider it a rumor for now, but are there any Blob fans who are excited about seeing the character get back in the mix in X-Men: Apocalypse? And am I mischaracterizing his reputation among comic readers? Let me know below.

Movie Dream Team: FANTASTIC FOUR

$

In honor of Fantastic Four's surprising success in the box office and with critics alike, I have decided to create a Movie Dream Team of the kind of Fantastic Four movie I'd like to see...what? I've just been told that Fantastic Four was a huge flop. Well, then this should be a great new idea for a reboot that they should totally take and go with.

Now, before I begin, I do have a few words to say about the Fantastic Four movie. You might have read one of our reviews or rants on this movie on the site. They can be found here if you want to read a critical piece on the filmmaking, and here if you want to see this movie be torn from the inside out while it weeps sadly to itself for not being pretty enough.

All these things aside, I thought the movie was good. No sarcasm. No gotcha. I liked Fantastic Four. I could spend a whole article explaining why I liked it, and what I thought it did right and wrong (it wasn't perfect by any stretch), and why I feel people are giving it a hard time, but I'll just be brief with my thoughts and then get on with the article as a whole. I thought the new Fantastic Four movie took some chances. It wasn't a safe choice. The director made decisions that he thought would make it stand out from the competition, and some of those decisions really paid off and others didn't. In a world where all movies seem to be are "Generic Buff White Man" and "Generic Hot White Woman," this movie made different decisions on casting, villains, story, and tone. It was not your average Disney Marvel movie and it wasn't a DC Cinematic Movie. It was trying to be something else. And I appreciate that. I appreciate a movie trying to be different. It was a breath of fresh air, but like a fly got caught in your throat. The air was still good, it was just that friggin fly that pissed you off. And some people really hate flies. I thought Fantastic Four was edgy and real. But that is an article for another time. Let's get on to my dream Fantastic Four cast.

This was tough, because although I had a dream cast in my mind, the dream cast didn't necessarily fit with the dream movie I wanted, so I had to make sacrifices for who might be the perfect fit in the universe I pictured for this movie and who might fit in the universe that I have known for years. Fantastic Four is a simple enough story in the comics: four people go into space and get powers from cosmic rays. They come back and deal with having those powers.  There's the Firey Guy, See Through Lass, RockyDude, and their leader, Professor Stretchy. They fight a guy who has low self esteem and wears a mask, and also they sometimes become pirates. Yeah! Suddenly making a Fantastic Four movie doesn't seem so easy, does it?  Maybe you should cut Josh Trank some slack. It's not like he's a bad guy...oh, what's that? He allegedly kinda treated people terribly during the making of the movie? My bad.

The Story

So, for my movie, I decided to keep it unattached to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not that I have anything against the Marvel Universe, or that it couldn't be attached somehow in later drafts, but I figured this movie should be able to stand on its own. Have the film start out with the characters already having powers. No origin story. Take a look at the 1990's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They didn't need an origin story. They were turtles, with 'tude. If you really need some sort of exposition, do it with a really quick flashback of Ben Grimm having a nightmare where he relives the spaceship getting filled with cosmic rays and he becomes The Thing. Then have him wake up quickly in fear and go to the bathroom and see himself in the mirror and sigh. Now we know:

1: A basic idea that he wasn't always The Thing and an accident caused the change, and

2: He is unhappy with who he is and what he looks like.

Now we have character motivation and exposition all at once without anyone having to say a damn thing!

So the film picks up with these four super powered people as if they have been living with these powers for a year or so, but they live in hiding. Grimm doesn't really leave the house, and their biggest rule is no one uses their powers outside of the lab. There can be a fun scene where you see an average morning for them using their powers for simple dumb things like cooking eggs, moving a fridge to find a quarter underneath that was dropped, and putting up a force field to stop someone because they forgot something. Don't tell jokes, just show average life with powers. A family with a good dynamic that gets along. Show the connection. Don't make it too goofy, but realistic to how you might abuse your powers. Meanwhile, Reed Richards works on a cure and other science projects. With all this family stuff, many of you are wondering where does the actual story begin. Well, I'm getting there. I just wanted to get some of that other stuff out of the way first that I'd like to see in my movie. Those things are important to me, and they should be important to you too.

So the story would be about Victor Von Doom, a scientist and project financier, planning to unveil a huge science project that will change how the world around us works. It's a device that can re-arrange matter. Doom asks Reed as a friend to come see it and take a look before it's unveiled to make sure nothing goes wrong. Doom has hired a hotshot scientist who has been instrumental in the creation of the device named Owen Reece. As Reed looks over the schematics, he sees a flaw in it that Owen insists isn't a flaw. Doom listens to Reed and delays the unveiling which infuriates Owen. During a late night, Owen decides to sneak into the lab and activate the machine and prove that he's not crazy. It works at first but then malfunctions and the lab blows up. Doom is furious but takes the loss, whereas Reed contemplates the lab explosion, worrying about the possible side effects of the machine's malfunction. He confronts Doom and Doom says to leave it alone. It was a lost cause, and he's moved on to other things. During this whole time, there is probably a sub-plot where we see Thing in a trench coat saving some lady from a thug or helping someone out but then running away because he's scared to be seen. Or maybe Johnny showing off at a bar and Sue coming in to pull him out so they aren't outed.

Now comes the cool part. If anyone saw Watchmen, you certainly know of Dr. Manhattan. (Or Professor Blue-dick, as I like to refer to him.) Imagine someone with immense power collecting his consciousness and physical shape as it's been ripped around the city. Have it be played like a monster movie. Have Owen Reece assembling himself in parts of the city causing anomalies and killing people. Imagine an alleyway. A man is screaming as matter is pulled towards him and he seems to be putting himself together from air particles. A homeless man comes towards him and then gets disassembled and put into him. The being takes the homeless man's coat and walks on.

There are so many things you could do with this set-up. The ideas are flooding with all the scenes one could create! A dark, unstable, godlike being wandering the city killing people, with Doom finding out and trying to cover it up. Doom and Reed being targeted by Reece because they shut him down. The Fantastic Four finally coming to terms with being heroes instead of hiding. Thing coming to terms with not being a freak, but having a purpose. Doom in the end trying to recreate what he started to get these godlike powers and being scarred instead. Don't make Doom the villain. Make him a dark powerful figure who wants to be in control. This is the story of not how the Fantastic Four got their powers and learned to use them, but how they learned to be heroes. This is the story we deserve in a Fantastic Four movie. A scientist and his family taking down an unstable god who can control molecules? The building blocks of life? How awesome would that be?

Director

This is another decision I was torn about. What director could do this movie I have in my head justice? Steven "Friggin" Spielberg. I know he's the go-to choice for most people when you say who's a director you know, but there is a purpose to this. Spielberg can capture the two most important things that I want in my movie better than any other director.

1: Family bonds and character relationships. Spielberg is all about this. Every one of his movies captures relationships better than anything I have seen. Jurassic Park, E.T., Schindler's List!  Yes, he's a great director, but moreover, he is a great character director who makes you invested in the people you are watching. This is essential in a Fantastic Four movie. I want to make these character seem real.

2: Suspense. Again, an area in which Spielberg trumps many others. It's rare to find a director who is good at making you love someone and making you genuinely terrified of another. This can be seen in Jaws, Jurassic Park, and even E.T. in some scenes. He knows how to make scary scenes, which is, again, important for this specific movie, because I want Owen Reece to be downright terrifying.

My other choices if I couldn't get Spielberg because he's "busy," would be J.J. Abrams who's just Spielberg Lite, or Stephen Sommers who did The Mummy, a movie that, although cheesy in moments, was very fun. He also did a little movie called Odd Thomas, which if you haven't seen, I suggest you check it out. It's just the right amount of scary and funny.

Cast

For many of these, I looked long and hard to find the perfect choice and ended up on these actors for reasons I'll explain. The biggest thing I looked at is chemistry. I want actors I know can get along with other actors. TV series actors are usually very good at this, and people who I know have a lighter side as well as a darker side.

Andrew Lincoln as Reed Richards

Andrew Lincoln as Reed Richards

Mr. Fantastic: Andrew Lincoln

You might know Lincoln from a little show called The Walking Dead. Or if you're like me, you know him from that one Christmas chick flick that I've never seen...maybe. He is a great actor. His intensity in The Walking Dead is great. Both Rick Grimes and Reed Richards have one huge thing in common that Lincoln portrays: he always looks like he carries the world on his back, like the fate of the world lies on his shoulders and it's up to him to save it. Sure, Reed Richards is a nerd, but he is a badass nerd. Have you seen him when he grows out his beard and blasts aliens into smithereens? I could make a solo movie about Reed Richards and it could be rated R and you would watch it because Richards kicks so much ass. You need someone who can be light and funny but still have that long cold look in his eye like everything depends on him. And Lincoln has that look. He has to save the day because no one else can.

Vince Vaughn as Ben Grimm

Vince Vaughn as Ben Grimm

The Thing: Vince Vaughn

Before you say this is the worst choice in the world and that I should go die, go watch True Detective season two. Are you done? Pretty good. Not as good as season one. First few episodes were a bit rough, but it picked up in the second half, right? Vaughn is funny which lends itself well to a superhero movie. Plus you never see him, so it's not like as you watch it you're going, "Hey, that's Vince Vaughn." He can do serious. He can do tough guy. He is a surprising choice for The Thing. When I originally was working on this I thought, "Adam Baldwin. Next." But then I realized as much as I love Baldwin in almost everything he does, he is just a hair off for The Thing. And yet Vaughn just seems right. He knows comedy well enough to know when to be funny and when to be serious. He gets family situations and ensemble groups. He can even be heartbreaking in moments. Plus, I'd love to see him work opposite my perfect Johnny Storm.

                                                          Zac Efron as Human Torch

                                                          Zac Efron as Human Torch

Human Torch: Zac Efron

Yup. Zefron. Now, it's no mystery that I am a huge Zefron fan, and I almost didn't put him in my cast because I was worried I was being biased, but Zefron would be awesome as the Human Torch. He's hot, funny, and can act like a total dick. Think of Neighbors, now think of the Human Torch. It would just be a lot of that. But now, he has super powers. A world where Zefron is a super hero is a world I want. Plus, he actually can act pretty well. Sure, he's a pretty boy, but he's a talented pretty boy. He has everything you need in a Johnny Storm. Which, as much as I love the character and Zefron, isn't much.

Diane Kruger as Sue Storm

Diane Kruger as Sue Storm

Sue Storm: Diane Kruger

This was such a hard choice. I had it narrowed down to about 30 different actresses who all were just barely not right. Some just didn't have experience, some didn't look right, some were just too...I don't know, just wrong. I finally got it down to Kruger and Rachel McAdams. Once it was down to those two, I just went with Kruger because she looked more Sue Storm-y. Here are the factors I put into this. Has to be a good actress. Diane is a great actress and has proven herself on TV as well as on film. She has to be able to hold her ground as an action star. Did you see Inglourious Basterds? She was great! Also she made the National Treasure movies bearable. Finally, the actress needed to have sisterly instincts. This was a tricky one. I almost gave it to McAdams for this, but I did some digging and saw in interviews Kruger has a friendly, natural feel to her that makes her likeable and almost sisterly.

Mads Mikkelson as Victor Von Doom

Mads Mikkelson as Victor Von Doom

Victor Von Doom: Mads Mikkelson

Now, realize, this whole movie, Doom is just a guy. Not a supervillain...yet. Mikkelson plays the perfect Hannibal that I think would translate perfectly into Doctor Doom. Plus in Casino Royale, he was equally dark and broody. Mads already plays that role perfectly. He's foreign, attractive, older, dark, and has a camera presence that just screams sinister. He is the only choice for Doom. You would see the evil in his whole performance but you'd never just change him into the supervillain. You'd keep him held back. Let the madness seep from behind his eyes.

Eddie Redmayne as Owen Reece

Eddie Redmayne as Owen Reece

Owen Reece: Eddie Redmayne

He's a great actor who a lot of people find attractive, but I want to focus on making him weird.  Owen Reece would be this mad character and I want someone who has the chops to go full crazy. Eddie, I believe, has those chops. He would start out as just a kind of goofball, a scientist who wants to be recognized. Maybe he was picked on by the other scientists. Don't go Electro-level with it. Just make him funny and likeable by normal standards, but in the world of super-scientists, he's an outcast. Emphasize the goofiness but make him a real person who wants to be a scientist, but he just isn't as absorbed into it as those other guys. And when he goes crazy, it's because he's been given godlike powers and his mind is still reassembling. He knows some things, but he's trying to remember the rest. He's a teenager with the powers of a god.

So there you go Fox, or Marvel, or whatever studio ends up getting Fantastic Four in the long run: my Fantastic Four movie. Tell me what you think, if there are any changes you'd make, and what other characters you might use.

First Photo of Chris Hemsworth in Costume From Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS

From what little official material we've seen from Paul Feig's Ghostbusters so far, I'm all in. When Feig shared the first photo of the four lead cast members (Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Melissa McCarthy), there was a mixed reaction from fans, but I can't wait to see a different take on this story with these hilarious ladies busting ghosts and making us laugh.

But they're not the only ones who will be out on the streets of New York City. Avengers star Chris Hemsworth signed on to play the new receptionist, and though Annie Potts stayed in the office for the original film, a new photo from Vulture reveals that Hemsworth will at least be able to go outside in the new movie.

The actor initially turned down the role because it was too small of a part, but after Feig and co-writer Katie Dippold beefed up the part a little, he ended up coming on board. I wonder how he'll fit in with the dynamic of the new team...

Ghostbusters arrives in theaters on July 15, 2016. For more information about the film, click here.

Square Enix has released a few new photos of the Marvel Variant Play Arts Kai Captain America figure, and it looks like it's bursting off the page of a comic book. It reminds me a little of the vector art of artist Orlando Arocena, whose work we've featured on the site numerous times. There's no word yet on when this will be available for purchase or how much it will cost, but I'm interested if you all find this design to be an interesting and worthwhile twist on the classic character or if you think it's too far removed from Cap's more traditional depictions.

Trailer for VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN with James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe

The first trailers have arrived for Victor Frankenstein, which stars James McAvoy as the mad scientist and Daniel Radcliffe as his assistant Igor. As you'll see, this is going to be a very different telling of this classic story. One of the major changes in the story is the portrayal of Igor, and it has a bit of a buddy comedy kind of feel that I think is fun. It seems to have a similar feel to Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes.

We have a domestic trailer and a UK trailer for you to watch below the following synopsis:

James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in a dynamic and thrilling twist on a legendary tale.  Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences.  Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.

Victor Frankenstein was directed by Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin) and written by Max Landis (Chronicle). It also co-stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott, Mark Gatiss, and Freddie Fox, and will be released in theaters on November 25th.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS - Posters and Plot Details

alice-through-the-looking-glass-posters-and-plot-details

This last weekend Disney screened some of the first footage from the Alice in Wonderland sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass. They have since released two character posters. One featuring Mia Wasikowska as Alice and the other featuring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Along with that we got a brief plot synopsis:

“In Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass, an all-new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.”

The story takes Alice and the Mad Hatter through a journey into time itself to save the Mad Hatter, who is “growing dark.” In the footage screened we see that the character is literally losing his color. They do this by enlisting the help of Time, who is being played by Sasha Baron Cohen. Time is described as “a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock.” After being warned that she can’t win a race against time and that she can’t change the past, she decides to move forward with her plan anyway. During her adventure, she encounters younger versions of "the characters we know and love," and there will be some insight into how those characters turned into the characters they became.

The movie seems like it has elements of both a sequel and a prequel. Other actors involved with the film include Rhys Ifans as Zanik Hightopp, the Mad Hatter’s father, and then reprising their roles from the first film are Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall

The movie will hit theaters on May 27th, 2016. You can watch the D23 Expo Presentation below. I also included a couple of video interviews featuring Wasikowska discussing the film a little bit more.

During a brief Twitter Q&A, Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell was asked if she would like to be on Doctor Who. Her response to this question is perfectly awesome. She simply replied with:

“I’d like to BE Doctor Who.”

Ok, Steven Moffat. Did you hear that? There are a lot of fans out there who have been asking for a female Doctor, and when it happens, Atwell should be your number one choice. I freakin’ love the thought of seeing Atwell in the role of The Doctor! I think she would seriously be perfect for it.

She’s obviously willing to do it, so all Moffatt has to do is ask! What do you all think about Atwell as The Doctor? Is this something that you would like to see happen?

Amiiqo Allows For All The Amiibo Content With No Collecting

Those who oppose the collection of multiple Amiibos to unlock content rejoice, we have a savior. Eurogamer reports the "Amiiqo" is a device that is capable of backing up the game data of an Amiibo. Officially, this is acceptable as current gen Amiibo's are only capable of storing data for one game at a time. It's unofficial use, however, will allow users the ability to download and copy the data of Amiibos they don't own online! This is a big deal because this means players will no longer have to pay for the amiibo in order to gain additional costumes, content, etc...

The price point is around $79, which is in no way cheap, but provided it goes unchallenged by Nintendo, it will pay for itself in the free content you'll get.

Of course there's a snowball's chance in hell Nintendo will let this device survive long given the recent profit storm Amiibos have generated, but I hope they'll ignore it. Frankly, the people who want to collect Amiibos will continue to do so. For the rest of us who don't want the figures, let us have this. Nintendo, you've never been big on freemium anyway, so let us have this one, please!

Jon Bernthal Looks Roughed Up as The Punisher in DAREDEVIL Set Photos

A few new photos from the set of Daredevil season two have surfaced featuring Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, and he's looking like he has been roughed up a bit. But that's what you get when you're looking for trouble!

He's still not sporting the classic skull logo, but he is wearing an outfit that seems appropriate for the deadly vigilante. I'm looking forward to seeing what his actual Punisher outfit is going to look like. I imagine it will be revealed by the end of the second season of Daredevil.

The new photos also include images of a couple thugs. To check out the other set photos that we posted, click here.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Described as a “Family Dispute”

It's no secret that the Avengers superhero team are going to find themselves at odds in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: Civil War. In case you’re wondering how bad it will get, don’t expect to see any fights to the death during the hero-on-hero combat. While talking to Collider, Anthony Mackie was asked about this, and he said the feud between them plays out more like a family dispute:

“Nah, it’s not MMA. We definitely have gloves on. It’s more a family dispute, and that’s what so great about this movie and the characters and how they work together. It’s more so when you have a sibling rivalry. The reason why people can relate to these characters so much, is because they can relate to what they’re going through. Everybody’s fought with one of their siblings or one of their friends and wanted to make up with them but couldn’t figure out how to do it.”

Chris Evans chimed in with his input:

“Well said, I feel like families – you have more struggles with the people you love [because] you care about them. You can’t leave them, you have to make this work. If it’s someone you can cut out of your life, no problem. You may not get along, but you can’t just cut them out of your life.”

This being a Captain America film, it going to be fun to see some more focus on certain central characters. We are going to see some of the key relationships between some of these characters explored in more depth, which is perfect. Evans continued:

“Marvel has a lot of balls in the air. You have a lot of movies that they’re trying to bring together. When you have characters like Falcon and Winter Soldier, these movies are really compressing these storylines. In this movie alone, there’s the relationship between Cap and Falcon, the relationship between Cap and Winter Soldier… there’s a lot of things that they’re trying to marry.”

I have no doubt in Marvel’s ability to give us something exciting. I love these characters, and I can’t wait to see where this next film takes them. It’s set to be released on May 6th, 2016. Are you disappointed to hear that that this is going to be more of a family type dispute, rather than a violent MMA fight? Or is this what you were expecting?

Second Full Trailer For Netflix's NARCOS Series Introduces Pedro Pascal

Most Americans probably aren't too familiar with director Jose Padilha's work, but if you're into action movies, you may recognize Padilha as the man behind the Brazilian corruption films Elite Squad and the superior Elite Squad 2. After a jaunt into Hollywood filmmaking with the RoboCop remake, Padilha is returning to what he does best: gritty dramas about cops and criminals.

Padilha is directing every episode of the first season of Narcos, the new Netflix series created by executive producer Chris Brancato. It stars Wagner Moura as cartel head honcho Pablo Escobar and Boyd Holbrook as DEA agent Steve Murphy, and this newest trailer introduces us to the character of Javier Pena, played by Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal. It's another slick trailer that definitely has me excited to see where this series goes and how Padilha, Brancato, and the cast are going to put their own spin on a story that's been told many times in the past twenty years.

Narcos arrives on Netflix starting August 28th.

Check out this impressively cool cosplay inspired by Toothless from the animated film How to Train Your Dragon. It shows the character in a very different light as being part dragon and part warrior woman. It's a mixture of claws, scales, battle armor, and more. It's called Alpha Toothless, and it comes from Gladzy Kei Art & Cosplay. This is definitely some badass out-of-the-box cosplay thinking.

GOTHAM Season 2 Will Feature The Villain Firefly, With a New Origin

Jim Gordon is going to have his work cut out for him in the second season of Gotham, which advertises the rise of the villains. A new classic Batman villain has joined the roster, and that character is Firefly. There's a little twist, though: the character will be played by a woman. The actress who is taking on the role in Michelle Veintimilla, and here is the description of her character (via TVLine):

Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her.

There have been two different characters in the DC Universe that have carried the name Firefly. The first was named Garfield Lynns, who was introduced in 1952. He was a movie pyrotechnics expert who turned to arson when his career took a dive. The second was Ted Carson, a wealthy gold mine heir who gambles away the family fortune and turns to crime to maintain his lifestyle.

This new version of the character is obviously a completely reimagining. She will be joining a long list of other villains that include Penguin, the Riddler, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Joker, Two-Face, Victor Zsasz, Hugo Strange, and Mr. Freeze.

Gotham Season 2 premieres on September 21st at 8pm on Fox. Firefly is scheduled to appear in Episodes 4 and 5.

Here's What FANTASTIC FOUR's Deleted Action Scene Would Have Been

$

0

Josh Trank's Fantastic Four is very obviously the result of some serious studio meddling combined with a filmmaker whose vision simply did not align with those who gave him the job. It's a complicated situation with a lot of rumors in play that haven't been substantiated, and as much as I went into the film with an open mind, it's a bad movie. Even Trank himself has distanced himself from the final movie, saying he had an earlier cut that was "fantastic" that we'll likely never get to see.

One of the biggest complaints about the film is that there isn't nearly enough action in it. Well, Entertainment Weekly spoke with a dozen people involved with the making of the film, and have pieced together what was supposed to happen in an action sequence that was featured in the trailer but ended up being cut from the film altogether. The scene involves The Thing skydiving into a military installation and fighting on behalf of the U.S. government about a year after the team first gets their powers. In the film, the fact that The Thing is a government weapon is showed briefly on a small bank of monitors, but the only time we really get to see him in action is in the truncated (and just straight-up awful) confrontation with Victor Von Doom at the very end of the movie.

Just after the cut to black when the group gets their powers, we were supposed to see The Thing dropped from a stealth bomber directly into a Chechan rebel camp. Then this happens:

As The Thing lurches into view, bullets spark and ping off his impenetrable exterior.
Rather than some elegant, balletic action sequence, The Thing moves slowly and deliberately. He’s in no hurry. The storytelling goal was to show the futility of firepower against him as he casually demolishes the terrorists. It’s a blue-collar kind of heroism.
When it becomes clear this rock-beast cannot be stopped, the surviving Chechen rebels make a run for it – and that’s when a hail of gunfire finishes them off.
From the shadows of the surrounding forest, a team of Navy SEALS emerge with their guns drawn and smoking. The cavalry has arrived, but the enemy has already been subdued.
The film would then have shifted to a bird’s-eye view of the camp, an aerial shot showing waves of American soldiers flooding in to secure the base. Just when it appears the American soldiers may be ready to clash with the rock monster, The Thing gives them a solemn nod, and they clear a path. He lumbers past them, almost sadly, a heartsick warrior. Then he boards a large helicopter and is lifted away.

Why, exactly, the scene was cut is up for debate. Sides are still being taken in the behind the scenes battle of making this movie, and there are opposing views about who is responsible for it being removed. You can read more about the gossipy "he said, she said" elements of the story at EW, but this is just another glimpse at the movie we were intended to see before, for whatever reason, the film was drastically altered for theatrical release.

Did you see the movie? Think this scene would have improved on the final product?

STAR WARS Star John Boyega Joins Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in THE CIRCLE

James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, Smashed, The End of the Tour) already had two terrific actors lined up to star in his new movie The Circle, and now he's found a male lead that just so happens to be one of the leads in what will surely be the biggest film of 2015: Deadline reports that John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has joined Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in the tech-based thriller.

Boyega (who delivered a killer performance in Attack the Block) will play Ty, "the iconized boy-wonder visionary of the Circle," which is an internet company that combines all aspects of a user's life into one online identity. He and Watson (who plays a fellow employee) develop a relationship as their privacy is inevitably wiped away.

The young actor is a great addition to this cast, and I can't wait to see him and Watson share the screen together. Since I haven't read Dave Eggers' novel (on which this film is based), I'm also very curious to see how Hanks plays into this whole story. Filming begins next month, so we should see this hit theaters sometime in 2016.

When Mae Holland is hired to work for the Circle, the world’s most powerful internet company, she feels she’s been given the opportunity of a lifetime. The Circle, run out of a sprawling California campus, links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. As Mae tours the open-plan office spaces, the towering glass dining facilities, the cozy dorms for those who spend nights at work, she is thrilled with the company’s modernity and activity. There are parties that last through the night, there are famous musicians playing on the lawn, there are athletic activities and clubs and brunches, and even an aquarium of rare fish retrieved from the Marianas Trench by the CEO. Mae can’t believe her luck, her great fortune to work for the most influential company in the world — even as life beyond the campus grows distant, even as a strange encounter with a colleague leaves her shaken, even as her role at the Circle becomes increasingly public. What begins as the captivating story of one woman’s ambition and idealism soon becomes a heart-racing novel of suspense, raising questions about memory, history, privacy, democracy, and the limits of human knowledge.
