Infographic: Wonder Woman's Costume Evolution

I'm excited about Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Zack Snyder's depiction of female characters hasn't always gone over well with movie fans, but I feel like there will be so much going on in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that her character won't see too much action. I'm hoping Patty Jenkins will be able to give fans the Wonder Woman solo film they've been dreaming of, and I think Gadot is an excellent choice to take on the iconic role.

But before we get to either of those movies, let's take a quick look back at the evolution of Wonder Woman's costume in comics, TV (successes and failures), and more in this infographic from Costume Discounters. What's your favorite iteration of Wonder Woman's look?

Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 23rd, 2017, just a few months before she (and presumably Chris Pine's Steve Trevor) will show up in Justice League - Part 1 on November 17th, 2017.

SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE Red-Band Trailer: Alison Brie and Jason Sudeikis Are Sex Addicts

As someone who likes Alison Brie, Jason Sudeikis, Adam Scott, Natasha Lyonne, and Jason Mantzoukas, I think it's safe to say I'm probably going to enjoy their new movie Sleeping With Other People. The romantic comedy follows Brie and Sudeikis as former lovers who reunite years later at a sex addicts meeting, and their relationship only gets more complicated from there. This new red-band trailer (via Yahoo) does a good job of setting the stage for what we should expect, and our review from Sundance — which calls the movie a "f*cking brilliant romantic comedy" — might push you over the edge if you're on the fence about seeing this one.

The film opens on September 11th.

Years after impulsively losing their virginity to each other in college, Lainey (Alison Brie) and Jake (Jason Sudeikis) meet at a support group in New York (“What’s a nice girl like you doing at a sex addicts meeting?”). A spark resurfaces, but they’ve walked this road before. Abject failures in romance who lead lives of serial infidelity and self-sabotage, they agree to a platonic friendship to mutually support their recovery—and what’s more supportive than teaching your friend proper self-stimulation? Can love bloom while you’re sleeping with other people? Lainey and Jake may have struck a deal that proves easier said than done.

Honest Trailer For Eminem's 8 MILE

Wow, it's been a long time since I've watched Eminem's 8 Mile. I remember liking the film after seeing it for the first time, but it was by far not a perfect movie. Screen Junkies set their sights on the film, and it's the subject of their latest installment of Honest Trailers.

Straight outta Detroit, lose yourself in Eminem's definitely not biographical tale about a rapper from Detroit who takes care of a cute little girl and has a crazy mom.

FRIDAY THE 13TH Series in Development at The CW

$

Earlier this year it was reported that The CW was interested in picking up a Friday the 13th TV series. Well, now it’s official. Mark Pedowitz, president of the network, recently confirmed that they were developing the drama series, which is based on the classic horror film franchise.

According to Deadline, the series adaptation will be written by Steve Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle, who are the creators of the 1996 NBC series The Pretender, a show I never watched.

The report says that the series “reimagines the masked Jason with a stronger feel of grounded reality. Described as a sophisticated, horror/crime thriller, the potential Friday The 13th series is about the ongoing quest of a detective’s search for his missing brother that is somehow tied to Jason Voorhees, a long thought dead serial killer who has now returned to wreak havoc in the new Crystal Lake.” The storyline will also re-imagine Jason in multiple time periods. The series was previously described as follows:

“The basic premise focuses on the REAL city of Crystal Lake, and the effect that the serialized films had on its real life counterpart. This allows them to reimagine Jason in a more grounded reality, as the films would be based off the real life killings that took place at the Camp. (ie, both the Hockey Masked Jason and a more serious backwoods inspired killer will be making appearances throughout)”

The hourlong dramatic series is being produced by Sean S. Cunningham, who helmed the original 1980 film. So that’s a plus! I’m seriously not sure what to expect from this. The CW has a history of developing both terrible and awesome shows. So this Friday the 13th show could either be great, or it could end up being a complete dud.

Must Watch: THE HATEFUL EIGHT Gets a Fantastic First Trailer

I've been following along with the saga of Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight since it was first announced, and the project has experienced some pretty intense drama of its own behind the scenes. After an early draft of the script leaked, Tarantino scrapped the project altogether, only to resuscitate it as a Live Read with the cast before ultimately deciding to film it anyway. Through all that, I thought the project sounded pretty cool, but since I missed the Comic-Con presentation, this trailer is the first footage I'm seeing from the movie, and now it's all finally starting to sink in: this movie looks freaking awesome.

Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and more lead the pack in Tarantino's new western, which hits theaters this Christmas. Check out the newly-released trailer below:

Why We Need Another STAR WARS Trilogy

why-we-need-another-star-wars-trilogy

When it was announced that Star Wars: Episode VII was going into production, I reacted like most Star Wars fans would: by jumping up and down in my living room and squealing like a teenage girl on prom night.

Okay, maybe not most fans, but you get the idea.

After a couple weeks of joyous bliss, however, a thought occurred to me. A thought that has since pervaded my thoughts on the film: “What if it sucks?” I had watched Fanboys long before this announcement, but it still rang true.

What if it sucks? What would that mean for Star Wars fans, especially those who have been grinding their teeth for 16 years since the release of Episode I? What about the casual fans, who didn't hate the disasters that were the prequels — how would this affect them?

I mused all this over for weeks, months even. Then someone asked me the single most important question anyone could ever ask about a sequel: “Why do you need ANOTHER Star Wars movie?” Well, I (as politely as possible) informed them that there was going to be a whole other trilogy, so naturally they asked “Why do you need three more movies?”

Why indeed?

For those of you unaware, not long after the acquisition of the Star Wars rights by Disney, they declared all books, games, shows, etc. as being non-canon. That was a tough pill to swallow for a lot of die-hard fans. We'd lived for years on the satisfaction that the prequel trilogy wasn't the end of the story, we had decades worth of other material to fill the hole in our souls George Lucas had selfishly yanked out for cold hard cash. Then, it was gone. Like that one girlfriend who just calls you up and says “It's over.” All of that information, all that wonderful storytelling, and all the characters we had grown to love; it all meant nothing.

So, why do we need another Star Wars trilogy? Because we deserve it.

Because all those years we spent locked in our apartments reading books, and playing games deserve to have meaning again. I'm not saying that this new trilogy will be everything we want it to be, because inevitably there will be disappointments. It may be too dark for the casual fan, or too light for the die hard fans who really know the depths of what Star Wars storytelling can offer. There may be too much action that drowns out the story or not enough action so people become bored. But we still deserve another chance. Regardless of whether or not you hate the prequels, they aren't the ending we deserved.

We deserve a J.J. Abrams Star Wars. Why? Because this franchise still exists because of the fans. Because we helped create back stories for completely inconsequential characters, and we helped give meaning to every little gesture, and reference to a past event we'd never seen. Because despite how much we are so disappointed with where Star Wars currently is, we still have the spark of hope that there could be a brighter tomorrow. Because despite our skepticism, we've watched Clone Wars and Rebels. We've begun the painful process of (in our minds) rewriting a history we already know. While Disney has said they will bring back some aspects of the former Expanded Universe, secretly we all know they won't bring back much.

So now we've rededicated ourselves to a universe we already knew and loved, to relearn and love again. The more little tidbits that we're shown from The Force Awakens, the more excited I become. Because this is a chance at redemption. This is a chance for everything we love about the Star Wars universe to shine through, and rebuild our relationship with this massive force in our lives. Then there will be more stories. After The Force Awakens, there will be more stories told for us to love. Episode VIII, and IX, several spin-off films, dozens of books, comics, and video games to tell us the stories that we deserve.

But why do we deserve all this?

Because WE are Star Wars, and Star Wars deserves to be great again.

You know that feeling when you're all ready to enjoy a day off, but then you realize that you have to run all sorts of dumb errands that ruin your relaxation time? The Incredible Hulk knows the feeling all too well, and this newest video from Fox's Animation Domination High-Def is a follow-up to a similar video from a little while back. I think all of us can relate to these frustrations, but it's funnier if you're actually able to Hulk out about it, and only one Marvel hero can really do that.

THE TRANSPORTER REFUELED Trailer is Action-Packed

$

The newest trailer for The Transporter Refueled is definitely action-packed, but will the movie be any good? Most action movie fans probably assume the fact that Ed Skrein is stepping in for Jason Statham means that this film will be a step down from Statham's original trilogy, but they may have forgotten that The Transporter 3 is abysmal filmmaking and a terrible movie overall, even with Statham leading the charge. So as long as Refueled is better than that, it'll be an improvement to the franchise.

The action looks like it's very much in line with the spirit of the first few films (read: ridiculous), and as long as there's a sense of humor about it and the action scenes aren't edited to death like most Luc Besson productions, I think this could be a surprisingly competent entry into Transporter lore. The Transporter Refueled skids into theaters on September 4th.

Blake Lively In Talks For Shark Survival Movie IN THE DEEP

$

Not long ago, Non-Stop director Jaume Collet-Serra took over directing duties on Sony's upcoming shark survival film In The Deep from original helmer Louis Leterrier. The film has been compared to 127 Hours, Jaws, and Gravity. Here's a refresher of the story for those of you who aren't familiar:

A young twenty-something woman dealing with the recent death of her mother is surfing on an isolated beach and gets stranded 20 yards offshore on a buoy. What lies between her and the shore is a huge great white shark. She must find a way back to shore before succumbing to her injuries.

The lead (and maybe only?) role is supposed to be a hell of a showcase for a young actress, and now it looks like the project has found its lead: The Wrap is reporting that Blake Lively is in negotiations to star.

Lively didn't really do much for me in Green Lantern, Savages, or Accepted, but that's most likely due to the writing for those movies; she was solid in Ben Affleck's The Town, which gave her a more tortured character to play. If this movie is such a big opportunity for young actresses, you have to assume that pretty much everyone is auditioning for it, and if Lively made a big enough impression to beat out her peers, I'll hold out some hope that this is the movie that could be feature a big breakout performance from her.

New Trailer For DOCTOR WHO Season 9!

Doctorwhoseason9

A new trailer has been released for Doctor Who Season 9, and it shows us some of the crazy awesomeness that is in store for the fans. I wasn't too keen on the eighth season of the series, and I'm hoping that Season 9 will be a lot better. Judging from what is shown in this trailer, it looks like it very well could be!

Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are reprising their roles in the new season, and when talking about what is to come, Capaldi says:

“They’ve suddenly realised that they are the most fortunate people in all of time and space and are hell-bent on adventure. (The Doctor) is in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way. But I sense him running from something, that even he does not yet understand…”

Here are the details of the twelve episodes that the season will contain:

The first two episodes of the new series are titled “The Magician’s Apprentice” and “The Witch’s Familiar.” Both are written by Steven Moffat and directed by Hettie Macdonald and will see the return of Michelle Gomez as Missy. Episodes three and four, whose titles will be revealed later, are both written by Toby Whithouse and directed by Daniel O’Hara. Steven Moffat calls them ‘brilliantly creepy… one of our scariest adventures yet!’
Episode Five of the new series will be titled “The Girl Who Died” and is written by Jamie Mathieson and Steven Moffat and directed by Ed Bazalgette. It will feature Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams in a guest role. It will be followed by episode six, “The Woman Who Lived,” written by Catherine Tregenna and directed by Ed Bazalgette; episodes seven and eight, written by Peter Harness and directed by Daniel Nettheim and featuring the return of the Zygons and Ingrid Oliver as Osgood; episode nine, of which there are no details; episode 10, written by Sarah Dollard and directed by Justin Molotnikov, and featuring the return of Joivan Wade as Rigsy; and capping off with episodes 11 and 12, both written by Steven Moffat and directed by Rachel Talalay.

Doctor Who returns September 19.

Kylo Ren and "The Knights of Ren" Teased for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

We have some intriguing new information regarding the main villain in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren, who is played by Adam Driver. There is a lot more to this character than we know, and all questions will be answered when we see the movie, but right now we have some new information on the character that was teased by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan

Talking to EW, director Abrams confirmed that Ren is someone who's aware of the events that took place during the original Star Wars trilogy and that his aesthetic is Ren's intentional nod to Darth Vader.  We already know that he is obsessed with Vader from an earlier article I posted. Abrams said,

“The movie explains the origins of the mask and where it’s from, but the design was meant to be a nod to the Vader mask. [Ren] is well aware of what’s come before, and that’s very much a part of the story of the film.”

Abrams also revealed that the crossguard lightsaber that Ren wields is something he built himself, and "is as dangerous and as fierce and as ragged as the character." Not only that, but apparently the character sees himself as the hero of the story. The director explained,

“As you see in the best of storytelling, and no doubt the best of Star Wars, these are tales in which an everyperson has to step up. And I think that what makes Ren so unique is that he isn’t as fully formed as when we meet a character such as Darth Vader. And I think that there are two sides to the Force. Both sides, arguably, would see themselves as the hero of their story, and I think that applies here.”

As it turns out, Kylo Ren isn't the character's real name. In the same way Darth Vader came to have his name, Kylo was also given his new name when he joined a group called the Knights of Ren. So in the same way that there are several Darth names in the Star Wars universe, it seems like Kylo Ren won't be the only "Ren." The title of "Ren" is something that someone has to earn. Abrams said,

“He is a character who came to the name Kylo Ren when he joined a group called the Knights of Ren. He is not your prototypical mustache-twirling bad guy. He is a little bit more complex than that, and it was a great joy to work with Adam Driver on this role, because he threw himself into it in a deep and remarkable way.”

Lawrence Kasdan added his input on the character and talked about Driver's performance in the movie:

"I’ve written four Star Wars movies now, and there’s never been a character quite like the one that Adam plays. I think you’re going to see something that’s brand new to the saga.  He’s full of emotion. No matter how we express ourselves in the world, whether we hide it and act very calm or whether we’re very out there and demonstrative, everybody’s roiling with emotion. And you want your characters to be that way, too. Then they have to deal with their emotions as best they can, with what they are. (Kasdan pauses as if he is on the verge of saying too much)...  I’d say that is as far as I’d go".

I don't know what you think about all this, but I think that there's a good chance that Ren is in some way related to the Skywalker family. With his knowledge of the events that took place in the original trilogy and his obsession with Darth Vader, it just seems to make sense to me. But, of course, there's a chance that he could be related to anyone who lived through that time who passed down those stories. It would definitely be more dramatic if he were related to the Skywalker family, though!

After learning all this new information, how do you think the character fits into the saga?

Detonate Your Wednesday With 30 Minute Supercut of Explosions From Schwarzenegger Movies

Arnold Schwarzenegger is 68 years old, and he's still churning out action movies like a man half his age. He was arguably the biggest action star in the world in his prime, and as such, he's caused a veritable shit ton of cinematic explosions. This awesome thirty minute (!) video from Schwarzenegger's own YouTube channel breaks down pretty much every explosion from Arnie's filmography through 2014, and even time stamps them by announcing how far into each movie it takes to get to the first explosion. Here's the text that appears at the end of the video explaining the criteria:

This has been a supercut of every on-screen explosion, from every film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, through 2014. Explosions were counted frame by frame based on every instance of an actual explosion. This includes repeated explosions, as well as explosions within explosions. Explosions that continued through an edit were only counted once. An honest attempt was made to count every explosion based on these rules. In some cases, an educated guess was made.

Bryan Cranston Fights The Hollywood System in TRUMBO Trailer

$

Hollywood loves making movies that look back fondly on the entertainment industry, but Trumbo is a film about one of the darker times in the industry's history. Breaking Bad star and legendary "Your Mom" joke dropper Bryan Cranston plays screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who was blacklisted in Hollywood for his ties to Communism back in the late 1940s. Undeterred, he continued to write under fake names, winning two Oscars during the time he was blacklisted. This looks like a great part for Cranston to sink his teeth into, and I love how he's continuing to prove his versatility as an actor by choosing projects that are often wildly different from the ones for which he's best known.

Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Parents) directs Cranston and a stellar supporting cast that includes Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, Louis C.K., John Goodman, Alan Tudyk, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Elle Fanning. The movie opens in limited release on November 6th.

Details on Wonder Woman's Battle With [SPOILER] In BATMAN V SUPERMAN

You clicked through to a Spoiler-filled article regarding Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. You must be living on the edge and feeling little dangerous today.

Today's spoiler/rumor centers on Wonder Woman and a crazy fight that she finds herself in. We got our first look at Gal Gadot in action as Wonder Woman in the trailer, and as you saw, she was in the heat of battle. It seems this may have teased the climactic scene in the film that you are about to read about if you decide to cross this line...

SPOILERS Ahead!

According to Heroic Hollywood, the Warrior Princess will be taking on Doomsday in the movie! They claim that during the fight, Wonder Woman draws her sword and manages to cut Doomsday's hand off. They go on to say:

"Wonder Woman is badass and got skills but don't count Doomsday out! He is still in the fight! Complications ensue because a BONE BLADE grows back where Doomsday's hand used to be! In screenwriting that's called a reversal. Now Doomsday got a blade of his own."

If you want to find out what happens after that, you're just going to have to watch the movie when it's released on March 26th, 2016.

It doesn't sound like either Superman or Batman are involved with this fight. But who knows, maybe they'll join in on the fun after Doomsday grows out his bone blade? What do you think of these latest rumors?

Mark Wahlberg to Return to The Buddy Cop Genre in PARTNERS

$

Mark Wahlberg's career has lasted so long, there are people reading this who probably don't have any idea that he started out as the frontman for a hip hop group called Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. (Look it up, kids.) While he started out playing very serious roles (presumably in an attempt to be taken seriously and distance himself from his goofy rapper persona), over the past few years Wahlberg has seemingly felt more comfortable stretching his comedic muscles on screen. Five years ago he made a splash in a buddy cop comedy called The Other Guys opposite Will Ferrell, and now he's ready to get back into that genre once again — but there's a twist this time.

Deadline reports that Wahlberg is attached to star in a new comedy called Partners from The Goldbergs writer Evan Turner. Wahlberg will play an L.A.P.D. detective who has a one night stand with a beautiful woman who (gasp!) he soon discovers is an FBI agent and his new boss on a big case. New Line is searching for the right actress to pair with the star, as well as a director that fits the material. With the right talent, this could turn out to be a lot of fun. It's being described as Mr. and Mrs. Smith with big action set pieces, which seems weird to me because Mr. and Mrs. Smith actually had its own action set pieces. Regardless, if Wahlberg teams up with a hilarious comedic actress, this could be just as enjoyable as The Other Guys. We'll keep you posted with more as it develops.

Zach Galifianakis Will Voice The Joker in LEGO BATMAN MOVIE

The Joker will be reimagined yet again, and this time it will be in the upcoming LEGO Batman Movie. Variety is reporting that Zach Galifianakis is in negotiations to voice the classic villain, which seems like it could be hilariously perfect.

If cast, Galifianakis will join a cast that so far includes Will Arnett as the Dark Knight and Michael Cera as the Boy Wonder, Robin.

This movie could end up being better than The LEGO Movie. The subject matter is just too good for it not to be incredibly funny. I'm really excited about it, especially because it will pay tribute to the various incarnations of the Caped Crusader that we've seen over the years. I would love it if they cast the actors who portrayed those versions of Batman to reprise their roles in LEGO animated form.

The movie is being directed by The LEGO Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay from a script written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dark Shadows). The directors of the original film, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, are producing the film. Right now they're just busy developing an animated version of Spider-Man for Sony and a Han Solo movie for Lucasfilm.

The LEGO Batman Movie will hit theaters on May 26th, 2017.
