Honest Trailer For THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK

I don't know what Steven Spielberg was thinking when he made The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It has some fun moments, but ultimately it was just an all-around disappointing sequel. With Jurassic World hitting theaters this week, Screen Junkies has released an Honest Trailer for the the Jurassic Park sequel that was so unnecessary, that the new film pretends that the events in it never happened.

Before Jurassic World, there was The Lost World, the first Jurassic sequel that brought us more dinos, more Goldblum, and - gymnastics?!

Thanks to The Licensing Expo currently taking place in Las Vegas (via Collider) we have a synopsis and poster for you to check out for director Roland Emmerich's Independence Day 2. I don't know about you, but I'm actually looking forward to seeing this. It sucks that Will Smith won't be reprising his role in the film, but at least they managed to get most of the original cast back on board! According to the brief synopsis, it sounds like the movie is going to be exactly what many fans were expecting.

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction. (C) Fox

It will be fun to see how this story all plays out on the big screen! The movie stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Liam Hemsworth, Brent Spiner, Joey King, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Jessie Usher who will play a major role in the story as the son of Will Smith’s character from the first film, Steven Hiller.

Independence Day 2 is set to be released on June 24th, 2016, which is almost exactly 20 years after the first film.

GAME OF THRONES Gets A Trance Remix From EDM Superstar Armin Van Buuren

I'll be the first to admit that I have no clue who Armin Van Buuren is, and I'm not even really into trance or EDM music. But apparently he's one of the world's most famous DJs, and he's a fan of Game of Thrones. So he's now produced an official remix of the iconic theme song, and it's pretty intense.

Hollywood seems to be attracted to that whole EDM scene as well, since Zac Efron is starring in a new EDM-centric movie called We Are Your Friends that arrives later this summer. Check out that trailer here.

TRUE DETECTIVE Gets Season 2 Synopsis and 2 New TV Spots, Plus The First 2 Episode Titles Revealed

The first season of HBO's True Detective was a pretty huge deal in the TV world. The anthology nature of the show proved that actors could come in, dive deep into eight hours of incredible television, and then return to other projects. Matthew McConaughey was stunningly good last year, and now the show has the unenviable task of living up to the promise of what it did the first time around. Series creator Nic Pizzolatto is back writing every episode of the second season, and we now have a full synopsis from HBO as well as two new TV spots and the episode titles of the first two episodes of the new season, which will be directed by Fast Five director Justin Lin.

Here's the synopsis for season 2:

A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California when TRUE DETECTIVE returns for its eight-episode second season SUNDAY, JUNE 21 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), followed by other episodes debuting subsequent Sundays at the same time, exclusively on HBO.
Colin Farrell (Golden Globe winner for “In Bruges”) plays Ray Velcoro, a troubled detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vince Vaughn (“Wedding Crashers”) portrays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner. Rachel McAdams (“Midnight in Paris”) plays Ani Bezzerides, a sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves. Taylor Kitsch (HBO’s “The Normal Heart”) portrays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and a highway patrol motorcycle officer, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened.
The cast also includes Kelly Reilly (“Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”) as Jordan Semyon, Frank’s wife, a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions; Christopher James Baker (“Gotham”) as Blake Churchman; Afemo Omilami (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”) as Police Chief Holloway; Chris Kerson (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”) as Nails; and James Frain (HBO’s “True Blood”) as Lt. Kevin Burris.
Among the guest stars this season are Lolita Davidovich (“Raising Cain”), W. Earl Brown (HBO’s “Deadwood”), David Morse (HBO’s “Treme”) and Rick Springfield (“Hard to Hold”).

And here are the new episode titles, along with a description of the premiere:

Episode #9 (season 2, episode 1): “The Western Book of the Dead”
Written by Nic Pizzolatto; directed by Justin Lin.
Debut: SUNDAY, JUNE 21 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT)
The disappearance of a city manager disrupts a lucrative land scheme and ignites an investigation involving three police officers and a career criminal who is moving into legitimate business.
Episode #10 (season 2, episode 2): “Night Finds You”
Written by Nic Pizzolatto; directed by Justin Lin.
Debut: SUNDAY, JUNE 28 (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Geoff Johns Says SUPERGIRL Will Blow People Away, Premiere Date Revealed

I know the pilot for Supergirl has already leaked online, but there are still a lot of people like myself that haven’t seen it yet. I’ve heard that it’s exceeding peoples expectations, though. Now Geoff Johns has come out to defend the show from the criticism it’s gotten from people who haven’t liked what they’ve seen in the trailers.

One of the points he makes is that that fans doubted Grant Gustin’s The Flash after they got their first look at the costume, but now everyone is loving it. I personally don’t remember many people complaining about The Flash, especially as hard as Supergirl is being bashed. But here’s what Johns had to say in an interview with IGN:

"Everyone deserves to have a reaction, but at the end of the day, I believe in the pilot, I believe in the show. When people see the pilot, they’re going to be blown away.
"When they first saw his suit, when we cast [Flash actor] Grant [Gustin], people were like, ‘That’s not the Flash!’ and now people are like, ‘Oh my god, he is the Flash!’ I’m so proud of that show and -- in so many ways the Flash was my favorite character growing up -- to see it realized and to see people embracing it. And it truly is a Flash TV show, we’re not shying away from anything. We jokingly said, yeah we’re doing Gorilla Grodd and I think people were like, ‘Okay...’ Yeah, no, we’re doing Gorilla Grodd! And we’ve got a lot of great plans for Supergirl in the same vein as that."

He goes on to talk about the show and why he's proud of it:

“I think the greatest thing about the Supergirl show we’re working on and the thing I’m most proud of is it embodies the character and the Superman mythology in a really strong, accessible way that I think carries at least the tone and spirit with what we’ve done with The Flash. And Melissa Benoist is an amazing Supergirl and Kara Danvers. I’m just excited for people to see it."

I do hope that Supergirl is good, especially because it’s one of those shows that I will be sitting down and watching every week with my girls. It was also revealed on Twitter that the series will premiere on October 10th, 2015 on CBS.

Old Games Are New Again: Pleading A Case For Video Game Remasters

$

Sony officially announced the Nathan Drake Collection late last week, which collects all three entries in the Uncharted franchise and also has all three running at 60 fps. Likewise, Resident Evil 0 got its first official trailer, showing the survival horror prequel in action. Both these bits of news were received with equal amounts enthusiasm and protest from the gaming community. Some say it's a matter of laziness or cash grabbing, while others believe it's an innate fear of developing original IP that struggles to sell. Truthfully, it's a little from both columns, but it also owes much to the simple fact that remastered games sell really well, which is not too hard a concept to grasp.

You can chastise a company for not innovating and investing in original ideas, and you no doubt raise a fine point, but that viewpoint — while valid — need not overrun another point: a vast majority of people don’t view remasters as the gaming equivalent of the boogeyman. Remasters of titles I either always wanted to play but never got around to, or games I played but would love to play again, seem to hold a substantial place in my gaming library. As Jaz Rignal points out here (heavily recommend reading by the way — great discussion with a variety of well thought-out views), we buy remakes of movies and enhanced/reshot/directors cut versions of TV shows constantly. With gold, platinum, diamond, and Vibranium (you know it's coming for Marvel's movies at some point) versions coming out every few years, we seem to hardly bat an eye. Games, however, no no, that’s a different story. All of a sudden it's a litany of Chicken Littles, decrying the failing of the industry and what it places importance on. I don’t necessarily see the difference.

Now, one point I will make is I’m not the biggest fan of straight up ports. While there are a few I would be interested in just because of the scarcity of the games themselves (Suikoden II and Skies of Arcadia being the primary ones), on the whole I’m not one for just replaying games for the sake of replaying them. That’s why backwards compatibility was really inconsequential to me. I had it with my PS2, and I used it once to see if it worked, then promptly never used it again. It's something I feel we perceive we want more than something we actually use when we have it.

You can really see a difference between these two versions. Photo Credit: Radik2

You can really see a difference between these two versions. Photo Credit: Radik2

A true remaster is when a company takes a beloved or popular game and then proceeds to touch up, enhance, rework, polish, etc., all so that the effects of time are lessened and the technology appears more suitable to current generation standards. It's never a whole new game, and the core of what you played before is almost entirely intact, but the developers were cognizant of the fact that tech has surpassed what was possible then, as has the art of game design overall. Some companies take that a step further, to the point where the remaster actually surpasses the original in more than just looks. Some, however, do neither, merely cashing in on the original's popularity, and companies that go that route tend to pay for their mistakes with lackluster profits and PR nightmares.

Here is the blueprint for how not to do it.

Here is the blueprint for how not to do it.

I realize that a remake of Skies of Arcadia is not going to have the graphic fidelity of say an Arkham Knight, but that’s okay. I still want the company to take the time to trim the edges, tweak the controls, give the textures a nice sprucing, and throw in a few refinements along the way. The idea is sound, and it's something I want to stick around.

I also need to question my constant gardening references. Another time, I guess.

There are generations of gamers out there who never experienced these games, even relatively recent ones. Someone buys their first console, and they don’t always buy the cheaper last gen model. Some go all in. I can’t tell you the amount of people I have come in contact with that a PS4, XBox One, or Wii U was their first gaming platform. That person, regardless of age, has never played Metal Gear Solid. They’ve never played Grandia, or Final Fantasy Tactics, or Soul Reaver, or Klonoa. That also means they haven’t played recent classics like the aforementioned Uncharted games, or the Arkham series. Plus, there are people like me that have built up a decent back catalog, and might have missed the opportunity to play series like Borderlands, or Devil May Cry (Ninja Theory's version). Having an option to play these highly-regarded series with some added bells and whistles is a good thing.

Me personally, I’ve bought quite a few remasters, from Beyond Good & Evil to pretty much every Resident Evil. I don’t view this practice as robbing myself of original experiences. I have those if I want them, and to me there is plenty of room for both. With a little polish and TLC, these games can be great for an entirely new group of gamers.

Here's a small aside, but it is related: as a community, I feel we tend to be pretty inclusive about things, and quite apprehensive and standoffish about any program or experience that might entice new people into our industry. We act as if being late to gaming is a terrible thing. Not everyone had an Atari, not everyone knows what a 3DO is, and everyone can’t point to their top 10 status on a leaderboard. Regardless of those factors, there shouldn’t be any glances of shame thrown their way because they haven’t lived their entire lives under the umbrella of video games. We are always looking for some other reason to grab the pitchforks in this industry, but there have to be other things to direct your vitriol towards. Things like grits, or tofurky hot dogs. Seriously, those things do not in any way shape or form taste like hot dogs.

A Valkyria chronicles remaster would be towards the top of my list

A Valkyria chronicles remaster would be towards the top of my list

People clearly want to play these games, and just like any other genre, there is no reason why people shouldn't have the option to. As for fiscal sense, last time I checked, publishers were not into making things that don’t turn a profit, which these clearly do. I’m not saying every single one is a winner, but that doesn’t just hold to remasters. All original games aren’t winners either, and we tear those down to their stumpy core when those don’t live up to our lofty expectations.

I won’t buy every remaster that comes out, but I have a pretty substantial list of games I would love to see given new life someday. If you don’t want to mess with your pristine sense of nostalgia, and keep remembering them the way they were, no worries, that’s fine. You won’t get any argument from me, but just do me a favor and keep your little rain cloud a good 10 or 20 miles from my parade, please. We’ve got cake, vodka, and a watermelon in the shape of a minion, and you will not ruin my good time. I had to special order that thing.

So, that’s my piece, and while I definitely have my own point of view on the subject, as always I’m keenly interested to hear what you think.

Jon Bernthal Cast as The Punisher in DAREDEVIL Season 2!

We've been hearing rumors about The Punisher joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Daredevil, and now it's been confirmed! Marvel has officially announced that they've cast The Walking Dead and Fury star Jon Bernthal in the role of Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher in Daredevil Season 2! How freakin' awesome is that!?

Bernthal is a great choice to take on the role, and I couldn't be more excited that the deadly vigilante is actually going to be involved in the MCU now, and that Bernthal is the man who will be bringing him to life for Marvel.

Marvel describes him as "a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results." Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb adds:

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

This is such radically badass news, and the second season of Daredevil is already shaping up to be even more epic than the first season. I can't wait to see how The Punisher will be portrayed in the series. Maybe a lot of those other rumors that we've heard will end up being true as well.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson Are Getting Me Excited For THE X-FILES Revival

I have high hopes and expectations for the upcoming X-Files limited series that is currently in production. I don't know if you've been following David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on the various social networks or not, but the stuff they've been posting is getting me even more excited for The X-Files revival!

We recently learned that the second episode of the brief new season will be called "Home Again," and that it will be a sequel to the fan-favorite Season 4 episode "Home." That makes me wonder if they will revisit any other episodes.

While we wait for more details on what the series will entail, here are various photos that have been released by Anderson, Duchovny, and creator Chris Carter. They are building the excitement and anticipation of the series that I've always wanted to see make a comeback.

I can't wait to see what stories they tell!

Ice Cube and Charlie Day May FIST FIGHT in New Film

Charlie Day always puts a smile on my face, whether he's playing Charlie Kelly in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, or riffing on that persona in movies like Horrible Bosses, Going The Distance, and even (to a lesser extent) Pacific Rim. His manic insanity cracks me up, and now Deadline reports that he'll square off against Ice Cube in a new film for New Line Cinema called Fist Fight.

The movie, which comes from writers Van Robichaux and Evan Susser, is said to be an adult version of the '80s film Three O'Clock High:

Day plays a mild-mannered English teacher who is put to the test when a colleague (Ice Cube) who thinks he is trying to get him fired challenges him to a fist fight after school.

There isn't a director attached yet, but with a September start date being looked at, it shouldn't be long before that position is filled. I like the cast, but this is the type of premise that's in which the jokes in the script are going to make or break the whole movie: we already know these guys are funny, it's just a matter of whether or not the material is good enough.

The 7 Best Things I Learned at The JURASSIC WORLD Press Junket

Universal went all-out with their press day for Jurassic World this past weekend, decorating a couple of sound stages on their studio lot with foliage, props, and all sorts of cool stuff from the film. (See some photos below.)

We'll get to the interviews in a minute, but first I wanted to mention one of the coolest things they had on site for members of the press to try out: The Jurassic World Apatosaurus VR experience. Like many of you, I've been following news of the Oculus Rift and other VR tech for the past couple of years, but I'd never had the chance to use it myself until this junket. Created by Felix & Paul Studios in under a month, the experience allows viewers to come face to face with a huge apatosaurus in a clearing in Muir Woods, the same location used as Endor in Return of the Jedi. ILM created the apatosaurus and a pteranodon that flies overhead, and I have to say, it was a pretty spectacular introduction to the world of VR and what's going to be possible as this technology continues to improve and become mainstream over the next few years. This should be available soon in the Oculus Store for anyone with a Samsung Gear to download. Here's a screenshot from the experience:

I'll go ahead and set the stage with some photos from the junket:

I had the opportunity to attend press conference interviews with actors Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, and co-writer/director Colin Trevorrow. I've selected the seven best things I learned from the entire day and compiled them into one easy-to-read piece so you can get the highlights of the junket without having the details of the film spoiled for you.

Pratt Wanted To Make Sure Owen Was Different Enough From Star-Lord

Chris Pratt is as nice as you'd expect from the guy who played the beloved goofball Andy on Parks and Recreation. But Trevorrow wanted to make sure that Pratt never veered into that territory while portraying his Jurassic World character, so he developed a term that helped keep Pratt on track. The actor explains:

I approached it as being and always saw it as a character who is just different from Peter Quill. A huge part of that was just our director Colin Trevorrow’s vision. He had this term called “the third rail.” I didn’t grow up in a city with a subway, but apparently in the subway, there are three rails and, if you touch one, it will kill you. That was the third rail, for me. If I started being goofy, or acting like a dip-shit, or going to my normal comedic bag of tricks – some of which I used in Guardians of the Galaxy, and certainly the character of Andy Dwyer from Parks and Rec is a full embodiment of that type of clowning around and that type of comedic schtick that I’m known for – that was my third rail. If I wanted to have any fun with this, it was all in my repartee with Claire, and my relishing an opportunity to spar with her and get her goat a little bit. That was how I could have fun, but for the most part, it was deadly serious. There was a bit of a darkness.
This is a guy who’s been through something. It goes back to, who would this guy be, if this were really a job opening and they needed a person to fill this position? We came together and decided that the backstory is that he’s a guy who probably trained dolphins for the Navy, and he saw what type of treatment those animals received, which is always not great for the animal. We decided that the likelihood is that, in the years that he’s been working for the park, this isn’t his first set of raptors. Raptors didn’t make it through some of the training. These animals died on his watch. They killed each other on his watch. Certain techniques that we tried didn’t work. We’ve come a long way and a lot of these animals have paid the sacrifice for the work that I’m doing for this company. That’s pretty serious. There’s not a lot of room for goofing around, when you play that guy. He’s a guy who’s been through combat. He’s a combat veteran with a bit of a darkness, who lives on an island. He’s chosen to move away from the world and live on the dark side of an island. All that stuff was interesting, fun character work and made me want to be someone who was different. I love Peter Quill, and I love Andy. I look forward to playing Peter Quill again. It’s super fun. But this was somebody who’s just a little different for me.

Colin Trevorrow Gave His All To This Film

Trevorrow, whose excellent first film Safety Not Guaranteed was made for a comparatively paltry $700,000, didn't approach Jurassic World as simply a launchpad for his career. Bryce Dallas Howard explains:

Colin is a really smart guy and he’s going to have a sensational career, but I was always asking him, 'Hey man, what are you going to do next? What’s the next thing?’ and he just said, ‘I’m focusing on this. I’m putting all of my energy into this right now. There will come a time and place where I start looking at future projects, but right now it’s this.’ And what I got from that was his integrity as an artist and how important this movie was to him. It wasn’t just a way to leverage his career. This was as much a passion project for him as Safety Not Guaranteed and as anything he’ll do in the future.
Jurassic World kids.jpg

The Dinosaurs Weren't Just CGI or Animatronic

Jurassic World is the first film in this franchise to utilize motion capture technology when it comes to the dinosaurs, with guys in mo-cap suits providing many of the movements of the film's velociraptors. Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins mentioned the challenges of interacting with the dinos in this movie:

Nick: The first day, we had the muscly guys, who were basically the mini-Triceratops —
Ty: — walking around with kids on their backs [providing mo-cap work as small Triceratops in a petting zoo segment of the theme park]. There were also people with strings that would pull trees so it would look like a dinosaur was coming out of the trees, so that would signal us when a dinosaur was about to attack us, and then there were the dancers, which were the raptor guys.
Nick: It was difficult at first, but you get to use your imagination, which kind of gives you free reign, and the crew would help. They’d play the Jurassic Park theme song sometimes, so that’s kind of hard to mess up.

Trevorrow References Jurassic Park, But Didn't Want To Simply Remake It

Trevorrow strikes me as an incredibly smart guy, and after having the chance to speak with him for a few minutes, I'm very excited about his future. He's a humble, self-aware person, and it sounds like this project gave him some pause when was first brought on board:

[There’s] the danger of making a fan film, and making something that is just derivative of the things that we love because we love them so much. That was my initial fear. I get a lot of questions about my psychological state when I was told that Spielberg wants me to direct Jurassic Park 4, and where my brain immediately went was, ‘the worst case scenario here is if you’re just accused of making a carbon copy of Jurassic Park.’ So in my first meeting with him and many afterwards, that became the mission: how do we push forward and do something new and do something that has its own identity and something that I can be held responsible for? I want to be the only one who can be blamed if this is a failure. I just can’t allow it to be anyone else’s fault. If it’s a success, it’s everybody’s fault. When Derek [Connolly, his writing partner] wrote the film, we sat down with Steven and kind of stripped everything away and asked some fundamental questions: 'Why is Jurassic Park 4?' is the number one question. 'Why would we make another one of these?’ I’m a little bit defensive of these properties because I care about them so much and if I’m going to have the audacity and the arrogance to make one, how can we make one that’s about something and about something new? What we settled on is we could make a movie about what was happening at the moment, which is that we had a giant corporation that needed a movie on a release date that was going to happen one way or another, so we could make a movie about we tend to repeat our mistakes, whether they’re a good idea or not, if there’s money on the table.

The Film is Full of People With Something to Prove

When talking about the differences between making a small movie like Safety Not Guaranteed and something on a scale this huge, Trevorrow pointed out how the high-end productions can sometimes cause filmmakers to lose their edge. He wanted to make sure he and his cast never had that problem, so he filled the movie with people who needed to prove something:

It’s almost a greater danger because it can make you a little soft, it can make you a little complacent, because they very naturally take your hunger away from you. You are literally not hungry. Derek and I, we kept our hunger throughout this whole process, and so did Chris Pratt, and so did Bryce Dallas Howard. They all had things to prove, and I’m a real proponent of populating a movie with people who have something to prove. Vincent D’Onofrio hasn’t been on film in a long time because he’s been on a television show. These two kids who are looking to be recognized as real actors. Bryce Dallas Howard hasn’t been in a movie in four years, had two children, and is back playing the lead of a movie. And Chris Pratt, who I think even in Guardians of the Galaxy is seen as a little bit of a goofball, playing a relatively straight character. I think that is what kept the hunger going through the whole process.

The Script Was Partially Written As A Critique of Our Society's Desire For "More"

I can't reveal what I thought about the movie yet (the embargo lifts tomorrow), but thematically, Jurassic World comments on not only today's blockbuster culture, but on society's seemingly constantly expanding desires for excess. Take it, Mr. Trevorrow:

I didn’t want to make it a meta-commentary. It happened very organically because it’s what we were experiencing at the time. Derek and I are in a hotel room in this very short period of time trying to write something that we could care about and could feel passionate about and I think in the process, a lot of that ended up being in the movie. I saw it a little bit bigger than [just commenting on blockbuster culture]: I feel like we do live in a culture where we constantly want more and we want it to be bigger — not just our entertainment, but our food portions, and so many different things. We want to be entertained, and we want upgrades. There was something to be said in that, and also, what really drives it is that constant push for profit at all costs. It’s a very dehumanizing force that can allow us to lose sight of our humanity and our priorities, and I felt like that was something we could make a movie about. We could hang our hat on that.

This Was A Personal Film Filtered Through One Man's Vision

Trevorrow emphasized how he never had the studio standing over his shoulder while they were on set, and he essentially said that this was one of the most personal, unfettered films we're ever going to see produced at this level. He wanted the film's success or failure to rest on his shoulders, and he brought up a few other movies this year that seem to have been made in the same fashion:

Steven [Spielberg] has final cut, and ultimately he gave that final cut to me. And you’re seeing my director’s cut on however many thousands of screens. It is definitely not a corporate product; surprisingly, for the amount of somewhat anti-corporate talk in the movie, I think there was a lot of freedom granted to make something that was a very personal and original vision. In the films we have enjoyed this year as movie fans, as fans of cinema, I think there is a consistency to them. Movies like Mad Max, Kingsman, Ex Machina — these are clear visions by either an individual or very small groups of people that don’t feel like they’re made by committee, that aren’t a corporate product. Audiences have responded to them, and I think it means that we want that. We want to be able to get inside someone’s brain and live in there for a little while if we’re interested in that person. So all I can hope is to make a movie that makes people interested enough in what’s going on inside my brain to want to travel there again.

Jurassic World opens this Friday, June 12th.

Hugh Jackman Says Jerry Seinfeld Influenced His Decision To Stop Playing Wolverine

We all know that the upcoming Wolverine 3 is going to be Hugh Jackman's last time donning the adamantium claws as Logan, and while he's mentioned his reasoning for his decision to stop portraying the character after a staggering seventeen years, the actor went on Kelly & Michael to explain exactly where the inspiration came from:

So it sounds like Jerry Seinfeld is to blame! I'm guessing some fans aren't going to be thrilled with the comedian after hearing that, but honestly, I think Seinfeld was absolutely right. Jackman defined that character, and to me, he'll always be the first thing I think of when I think about Logan. And as someone who's a big fan of Jackman's non-superhero movies (remember how great he was in The Prestige?), I'm excited to see him begin the next phase of his career.

Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain Try To Clarify That They're Not The Same Person

Before Jessica Chastain had an absolutely monster year in 2011 (she was in six films that year alone), I'll admit to briefly getting her confused with Bryce Dallas Howard. But that confusion appears to still be strong among the general public, who apparently gets the two actresses mixed up even now. Well, the redheaded actresses are taking to social media to set the record straight once and for all.

First, Chastian posted this:

Then Chastain put this video on her Instagram page, which features Howard lip syncing about her real identity:

Everyone get it yet? : ) performance by #BryceDallasHoward not #JessicaChastain

A video posted by Jessica Chastain (@chastainiac) on

Vanity Fair points out that the audio from that lip sync comes from this amazing video by YouTuber LegoLambs:

So just to be 100% clear: Chastain will appear opposite Matt Damon in The Martian in November, while you can see Howard this week in Jurassic World. And now if you'll excuse me, I need to try to go get that song out of my head.

Joe Carnahan Looking to Direct BAD BOYS 3

Joe Carnahan, the director of Smokin' Aces, The A-Team and The Grey, is looking to direct Bad Boys 3. I guess if anyone is capable of taking over Michael Bay's crazy, over-the-top action franchise, it's Carnahan.

The news comes from Deadline who also reports that a draft of the script has already been written by Safe House scribe David Guggenheim, and it's described as being "strong."

Carnahan is in early talks, but the studio is moving fast on the project as they are trying to get Will Smith on board to star in it as his next project after he's done shooting Suicide Squad. Smith starred in the first two films alongside Martin Lawrence, who is probably hoping like hell that this movie actually goes through.

I'd be happy with Carnahan directing the movie, but to be completely honest, I'd much rather see Bay do it instead of directing another Transformers movie.

"In a world out of control, only the mad survive."

GT reader Daz Tibbles sent us a radical animated proof of concept trailer that he created for a project called Mad Max: Tales of the Road Warrior. This is a fan-made project, and it looks like it has potential. I always thought it would be awesome to see some kind of hardcore animated Mad Max series that ties in with the George Miller films.

According to the creator, this project will tell an original story of one of Max's action-packed adventures. He also hopes to complete the short by the end of the year. When he's finished with it, we'll make sure to post it on the site. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer!

The latest film spoofed by Sesame Street is Jurassic Park, and it features Cookie Monster in the role of John Hammond. The video sketch is called "Jurassic Cookie," and it debuted this week in anticipation of the release of Jurassic World. Here’s a brief description:

It took a brilliant scientist with a brilliant idea to open the world's first cookie theme park - Jurassic Cookie. Join Cookie Monster and his friends in an action packed giant dino-cookie chase!

In the story Cookie Monster finds pieces of cookie stuck inside a zillion-year old rock and uses science to breed bigger cookies for a prehistoric cookie theme park. These dinosaur cookies should be more scared of Cookie Monster than Cookie Monster is of them.

Several new photos have surfaced from the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Attack on Titan. The stills feature Eren (Haruma Miura) giving the “offering my heart” salute, Sasha (Nanami Sakuraba) in the middle of kicking some ass with her bow and arrows, and the new character created for the film, Shikishima (Hiroki Hasegama) described as "humanity's strongest man.” The images come courtesy of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine (via Anime News Network).

We’ve heard a lot about the movie, but we’ve hardly seen anything from it in the trailers. It has just been a lot of big teasing, and I want to see more! With the first movie coming out this summer, I’m sure we’ll get another trailer that shows off more footage from the movie soon. Here’s the basic plot of the film:

That day, humanity remembered... More than one hundred years ago, Titans suddenly appeared. The majority of the human race was eaten and civilization collapsed. The survivors of the war built three walls to prevent the invasion of the Titans, and kept the peace by securing the living area inside. In one hundred years, the wall has not been broken... until this day.

There are two planned live-action movie adaptations of Hajime Isayama’s popular manga. The first film will be released August 1st, and the second will hit theaters a month later on September 19th in Japan. There’s still no word on when we’ll see it here in the U.S.
