First Trailer For Steven Spielberg's BRIDGE OF SPIES, Starring Tom Hanks

Steven Spielberg is back with Bridge of Spies, the true story of a lawyer (Tom Hanks) selected to negotiate a prisoner swap between America and Russia during the height of the Cold War. With Spielberg behind the camera, the Coen Brothers helping to write the screenplay, and Hanks taking the lead, this seems like another great addition to The Beard's impressive resume. This seems like Saving Private Ryan by way of To Kill A Mockingbird, which basically means it's a story that's tailor-made for Spielberg. Check out the trailer below, and the film opens on October 16th.

A dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, DreamWorks Pictures/Fox 2000 Pictures’ “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired by true events that captures the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.
Directed by three-time Academy Award®-winning director Steven Spielberg, “Bridge of Spies” stars: two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks as James Donovan; three-time Tony Award® winner Mark Rylance as Rudolf Abel, a KGB agent defended by Donovan; Scott Shepherd as CIA operative Hoffman; Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan as James’ wife, Mary; Sebastian Koch as East German lawyer Vogel; and Academy Award nominee Alan Alda as Thomas Watters, a partner at Donovan’s law firm. The film is produced by Spielberg, Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by Matt Charman and three-time Academy Award winners Ethan Coen & Joel Coen. “Bridge of Spies” will be released in theaters on October 16, 2015.

FX has released a "First Look" video at Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse's The Strain Season 2. It features footage from the series along with the cast and crew discussing what we can expect from the upcoming season.

The transformation has begun. It can no longer be denied — New York City is rapidly falling to an evil epidemic, and no one is coming to its rescue. Its citizens must fight or die. Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and his unlikely allies tried to take down the embodiment of this evil — the Master — and failed. Now Eph and Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) concentrate on creating a biological weapon to wipe out the creatures, while Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) searches for an ancient book he hopes will reveal the strigoi’s entire history…and possibly a way to kill them. Meanwhile, the Master is out for revenge, unleashing new and even more terrifying breeds of bloodthirsty creatures after our team. Our team must find a way to defeat him before the infection spreads too far and becomes irreparable … before they become monsters themselves.

The second season is set to premiere on Sunday, July 12th at 10:00 pm on FX. The first season was the most-watched new cable drama of 2014, and there's a reason for that. It was awesome! The next season looks like it's going to be just as good, if not better.

Several illustrations have been released from Mondo's Jurassic Park tribute gallery show which opens in Austin, TX on June 12th, which is the same day that Jurassic World hits theaters. The show is called “When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth,” and as you will see below, it's going to be full of several pieces of awesome and creative art from various artists.

The films offer a rich world of colossal dinosaurs, gorgeous tropical landscapes and iconic characters for artists to draw their inspiration from. The title of the show “When Dinsoaurs Ruled The Earth” references the climactic scene of Jurassic Park when the T-Rex triumphantly reclaims her dominance at the top of the food chain, making the past tense of that falling banner’s copy ominously incorrect. Now 65 million + 22 years later, dinosaurs are getting their first fully functioning theme park in Jurassic World with all of the terrible implications of how that will go perfectly wrong.

Check out the art that's been released below, and under that you will find a list of artists participating in the show.

Powerful New Trailer for the Boxing Drama SOUTHPAW

powerful-new-trailer-for-the-boxing-drama-southpaw

It looks like Jake Gyllenhaal has taken his acting abilities to an incredible new level in his new film Southpaw. It was directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) from a script written by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter

The film tells the intense and powerful story of tragedy, loss, and the painful road to redemption. It follows a character named Billy “The Great” Hope, a left-handed prizefighter who suffers a tragedy after winning a title. After losing himself and his family, he embarks on a journey to put the pieces together and earn the respect of his young daughter. Here's the detailed synopsis:

Billy “The Great” Hope (Gyllenhaal) is the reigning Junior Middleweight Champion whose unorthodox stance, the so-called “Southpaw,” consists of an ineloquent, though brutal, display of offensive fighting…one fueled by his own feelings of inadequacy and a desperate need for love, money and fame. With a beautiful family, home and financial security, Billy is on top both in and out of the ring until a tragic accident leaves his wife dead and sends him into a downward spiral. His days now an endless haze of alcohol and prescription drugs, his daughter taken by Child Services and his home repossessed by the bank, Billy’s fate is all but sealed until a washed up former boxer named Tick agrees to take the bereaved pugilist under his wing so long as he agrees to his strict ethos. Relentless and utterly committed to a fighter that thinks as much as he throws punches, Tick rebuilds Billy into a new man: one that is agile, fearsome and uncompromising in the ring while thoughtful, loving and disciplined outside of it. Now, as he works to regain custody of his daughter and mounts a professional comeback, Billy must face his demons head-on as he learns that, sometimes, your greatest opponent can be yourself.

Also starring Rachel McAdams, Rita Ora, Naomie Harris, Tyrese Gibson, Forest Whitaker, 50 Cent, and Beau Knapp. The film opens in theaters on July 24th, and I also included Eminem's song for the film, "Phenomenal."

Watch The PARKS AND RECREATION Season 7 Gag Reel

Even with its relatively bumpy first season, Parks and Recreation was consistently one of the funniest shows on television. That was due in large part to the excellent writing, but also to the fantastic cast, which comprised some of the funniest people in the industry. Seeing the gag reels at the end of every season was an annual ritual for me and many of the show's other fans, and now that it's off the air, I'm a little sad that this is the last one we'll ever see. Thankfully, this is one of their best yet, and it's always hilarious to see this cast cracking each other up with their ridiculous improv bits and one-liners.

The season seven gag reel begins around the 15:44 mark in the video below:

CREEP Trailer: Mark Duplass Is More Dangerous Than He Looks

Mark Duplass has the wonderful ability to convincingly slip into the skin of all sorts of different kinds of characters. He can play a frustrated married guy in Togetherness, a bizarre and possibly crazy dude in Safety Not Guaranteed, and everything in between. He made an appearance in the horror genre earlier this year in The Lazarus Effect, and now we have a trailer for another low-budget horror effort he's starring in called Creep.

The film is co-written and directed by Patrick Brice, who co-stars as a down-on-his-luck guy who drives out into the woods to meet a man (Duplass, who co-wrote the script) who's going to pay him $1000 for a day of filming him. Things start out fine, but then quickly turn very strange. Apparently, this is the first film in a Creep trilogy, so Duplass and Brice have bigger plans for this than what's hinted at in this trailer. Creep will be available on iTunes starting June 23rd, and it hits Netflix on July 14th.

What do you think about the trailer?

How That Brutal Church Scene Was Made in KINGSMAN - Video

A few months ago we learned that Colin Firth's casting in Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service was contingent on him being able to effectively pull off the stunt moves in that insane church scene. This was one of the most jaw-dropping scenes in the film, and now we have a behind-the-scenes video that that shows us exactly how that brutal sequence was made. If you're a fan of this movie, this is a video that's worth checking out. It includes footage from the set of the film and the director and actors discussing it. Enjoy!

WTF: Paramount Developing AFTER, Which Started As One Direction Fan Fiction

$

It's no secret that Paramount Pictures has been playing catch-up to the other major studios for awhile now. They simply don't release as many films as the others, and they only have two proven franchises: Transformers and Mission: Impossible. But I had no idea they were this desperate for a hit.

/Film reports that the studio is developing a film called After, which — like Fifty Shades of Grey before it — started out as a piece of fan fiction. Anna Todd wrote a piece of fanfic about the teen pop band One Direction, and it gained over one billion reads on Wattpad. Simon and Schuster's Gallery Books picked it up, made a few changes (including character names), and published it last year.

Also like Fifty Shades of GreyAfter centers around the steamy but rocky romance between a virginal student (here named Tessa) and an emotionally unavailable bad boy (here named Hardin, and loosely modeled after One Direction band member Harry Styles).

Well, to say that Paramount hopes to recapture the success of Fifty Shades of Grey would be perhaps the most obvious statement in the world, but here we are. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they'd try to do that by going after a younger teenaged audience. And while this sounds like an absolutely terrible idea creatively, I'm sure it'll make them lots of money, so...yeah. Welcome to Hollywood in 2015. Susan McMartin (CBS's Mom, Two and a Half Men) has been hired to write the screenplay. No director is attached, and there's no word on who will star.

John Carpenter on The Rock's BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA Remake

Earlier this week we learned that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will star in and produce a remake of the 1986 classic Big Trouble in Little China. The original film was directed by John Carpenter and starred Kurt Russell, and a lot of fans are pissed that the movie is being remade.

One fan reached out to Carpenter to see what he thought of his film being remade, and in the process the director shared his thoughts on the matter. The following exchange took place on Carpenter's Facebook page (via: BleedingCool).

It sucks that Carpenter isn't involved. That might have been the only way that I'd be interested in watching the movie. You know what would have been even better than a remake? A sequel! Bring Kurt Russell back and have him embark on another crazy fantasy adventure.

Check Out MONDO's Retro Poster For Paul Feig's SPY

It may not look like much from the trailers, but Paul Feig's Spy is one of the best action comedies of all time. It's one of my favorite films of the year because it subverts the idiotic personas Melissa McCarthy often plays and gives her a chance to be competent and hilarious, and Jason Statham absolutely steals the film with a fantastic comedic performance. I would highly, highly encourage you to grab everyone you know and go see it this weekend so it performs better than the Entourage movie at the box office; it's a far better film, and we could all use a little more faith in humanity for doing the right thing.

Birth.Movies.Death points us to this cool new retro poster from Mondo and The Dude Designs, which unfortunately isn't for sale. The companies essentially just created it as a celebration of the film. It's a shame this isn't up for grabs because I'd love to hang this on my wall.

Jason Statham Scoffs at Marvel Movies, Says His Grandma Could Star In One

Earlier this morning, we wrote about how British action star Jason Statham is rumored for the role of Bullseye in season two of Netflix and Marvel's Daredevil TV series. Well, it now seems extremely unlikely that he'll actually end up taking that role, since he had some choice words about the kind of action he sees in modern superhero movies, specifically calling out Marvel in an interview with i400calci:

A lot of the modern sort of action movies I see, you know, Marvel comic sort of things, I just think, any guy can do it. I have no ambition. I mean, I could take my grandma and put her in a cape, and then put her in a greenscreen, and then have stunt doubles come in and do all the action. Anybody can do it. I mean, they’re relying on stunt doubles, and greenscreen, and $200 million budget, it’s all CGI-created. So to me, that is not authentic. I’m inspired by old, real star guys that can really do it.

Now, there's still a chance that he could end up taking on the role if the offer turns out to be true (and still stands after these comments, haha). I've still only seen a few episodes of Daredevil so far, but already I can tell it has a higher level of action choreography than a lot of other superhero shows, and maybe he'll jump at the chance to bring his old school tricks to a property like that. We'll have to see how it goes.

In the meantime, go see Statham in Spy this weekend, because he's one of the best parts of the movie. It proves that he should be working regularly in comedies.

This is the stunning trailer for a badass-looking fake film called Dawn of the Planet of the Zombies and the Giant Killer Plants on Some Serious Acid. The special effects you'll see in the trailer are the result of some incredibly impressive work. The trailer is full of awesome action and fun humor. It was created by a man by the name of Alf Lovvold, and as you'll see, he did a phenomenal job. I think this needs to be a feature length film! You're gonna love this.

WILD TALES Director To Write and Direct 10-Part Sci-Fi TV Show THE STRANGER

$

Most people probably haven't heard of Wild Tales, but it's one of the most interesting movies I've seen this year. An Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film at this year's ceremony, the Argentinian anthology film consists of six segment, all of which are varying degrees of bleak, funny, dark, and surprising. If you're tired of watching the same kinds of movies over and over again and looking for something that mixes it up a little bit, I'd recommend giving it a shot. Writer/director Damian Szifron certainly got Hollywood's attention with the movie, and though he has a couple of films on his plate, Deadline brings word that he'll also write and direct all ten episodes of a new sci-fi series.

Details about the show, which will be Szifron's first American TV effort, are hard to come by, but it's said to be a limited series that takes place on a global scale with multiple languages involved. This is a passion project for the writer/director, and with this little to go on, it's easy to assume it might skew close to The Wachowskis' Netflix series Sense8, which is available to stream right now. If Wild Tales is any indication, though, I have a feeling The Stranger will be must-watch television, and I'm hoping he's able to bring some of that same edginess to the small screen with this project. He's working with Media Rights Capital on this one, who will shop it to networks soon. We'll keep you posted, and again, check out Wild Tales to find out why you should be excited about this.

Crossbones Concept Art For CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Last month we saw a lot of photos from the set of Captain America: Civil War, and some of those included Frank Grillo all decked out as the villain Crossbones. There were even some photos and videos of him fighting Captain America, which you can check out here

We now have a piece of concept art thanks to Heroic Hollywood that offers up a more detailed look at the full costume. I really like this costume design, it's really quite sinister looking. I imagine that the gizmos that the character is sporting on his fists give him a sporting chance while contending with Captain America.

For some spoiler-filled rumors about what Crossbones' place in the story is, click here. The movie opens on May 6th, 2016.

Tom Cruise Held His Breath For Over Six Minutes in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION's Uncut Underwater Scene

For years, Tom Cruise has been proving himself as one of the people most willing to give his all in Hollywood. His on-screen running is legendary, and he took things to an extreme level by actually scaling the Burj Khalifa in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and now he's physically hanging from the outside of a plane in the new Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation. But that isn't his only big stunt in the upcoming action thriller.

A little while back, Cruise and director Chris McQuarrie teased some of the film's action sequences, and Cruise hyped something we haven't seen yet in this franchise:

"We have something I’ve always wanted to do: an underwater sequence without cuts. The kind of training I had to do for that was pretty intense. I’ve done a lot of underwater scenes but I’ve never done one [like this] that will get the audience to lean forward and have a visceral reaction."

Now some details have surfaced about that sequence (via USA Today), and as the headline indicates, Cruise held his breath for a pretty impressive length of time to make the scene happen:

It’s something I have always wanted to do. (Director Christopher McQuarrie) and I have been thinking about it since working on ‘Edge of Tomorrow.’ I have done a lot of underwater sequences. But we wanted to create a suspense underwater sequence without cuts. So doing that sequence was really interesting. We’re underwater and we’re doing breath-holds of 6 to 6 1/2 minutes. So I was doing all my training with the other stuff (on-set). It was very taxing stuff.

I initially thought this sounded crazy, but apparently the world record for breath-holding (without using pure oxygen as an aid) is 11 minutes and 35 seconds, so it's not quite as legendary as it may sound to people like you and me who don't obsessively track that sort of thing. Still, Cruise's six and a half minutes is pretty damn impressive, especially for an A-list actor who is probably an insurance nightmare for the studio.

Meanwhile, a new TV spot for the film has hit the web, so check that out below and watch the movie when it arrives in theaters on July 31st.

Supercut of Emotions Across Pixar's Filmography

Pixar took the year off last year, but their new movie Inside Out is primarily about the personified emotions inside a young girl's head. But Pixar characters have been putting their hearts on their animated sleeves since the first Toy Story hit theaters twenty years ago. (Whoa, has it really been that long?)

Lindsay McCutcheon has edited together a supercut of emotions that run the gamut of Pixar's filmography so far, and it's a great primer for what's sure to be an emotional roller coaster when Inside Out debuts on June 19th.

Stephen King's THE STAND Will Start As A New TV Miniseries Before The Film

$

0

Writer and director Josh Boone has been hard at work developing the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. It looks like the project has expanded into something even more spectacular. According to The Wrap, the post-apocalyptic story will start out as an eight-episode TV miniseries on Showtime.

Warner Bros. and CBS Films are currently in talks with Showtime to make this happen. These eight episodes will lead into the feature film event. This is an ambitious project, and I love that the creative team is taking the adaptation in this direction.

Boone will write and direct the miniseries, and according to insiders, it's expected to start shooting early next year. Last year we learned that the adaptation would play out over the course of four films, so it looks like they opted to take another route, which is completely fine. As long as King's novel gets the epic adaptation it deserves, I'll be happy.

Something similar was being planned with The Dark Tower adaptation when Ron Howard was attached to direct it. It also would have used both film and TV to tell its vast story.

The Stand is one of my favorite stories from King, and I think Boone is the right person for the job to bring it to life. King will also be involved with the adaptation. It tells the story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. While it features dozens of characters and overlapping storylines running over many years, the struggle boils down to a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like character Randall Flagg.

The plan is to have an A-list cast star in the series and films. It was previously rumored that Matthew McConaughey would be taking on the villainous role of Randall Flagg, which I think would be great.

After Boone takes on The Stand, he will take on Fox’s X-Men spinoff film The New Mutants and Universal’s adaptation of Anne Rice’s Prince Lestat: The Vampire Chronicles
