Craig Drake has such a cool and slick style that I love. The guy is a talented individual who uses minimal details to bring his art to life. Today we have several pieces of geek culture-inspired art from the artist that brings us his vision of Akira, Star Wars, Tron, Sherlock, Kill Bill, Star Trek, Pulp Fiction, and Princess Mononoke

These are all part of a solo art show for the artist at the Hero Complex Gallery. The art will be on display at the gallery through the month of July, and it’s located at 2020 South Robertson Blvd. Studio D, Los Angeles, CA. If you want to purchase any of these prints, click here.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 Reportedly Already in Development

While we wait to see how Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation turns out, Paramount Pictures doesn’t seem to be wasting time on keeping the franchise going. According to the Tracking Board, Bad Robot and Skydance Production is already developing Mission: Impossible 6. Tom Cruise, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and J.J. Abrams are all returning to produce, with Don Granger and Matt Grimm set to serve as executive producers.

I’ve been enjoying the Mission: Impossible film franchise. They’ve all been fun and entertaining action films, and I’m looking forward to seeing how director Christopher McQuarrie’s turns out. I like what I’ve seen from the limited amount of footage that has been released so far, and I’m hoping for the best.

There’s no word on who might direct the upcoming sequel, but on top of Cruise returning to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt, I imagine he’ll be joined by Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and maybe Paula Patton. None of these actors are officially set to star in it yet, but it seems like a safe bet.

ZOMBIE VS. ROBOTS Comic Getting a Big Screen Adaptation

Sony Pictures is developing a feature film adaptation of an IDW comic book series called Zombies vs. Robots. They even managed to land Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Craig Borton, who co-wrote Dallas Buyers Club. The movie won’t by called Zombie vs. Robots, it’s actually going by the name Inherit the Earth. Andrew Adamson (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe) is attached to direct.

The comic series was launched in 2005, and it’s officially described as follows:

It’s tech prowess meets undead mayhem! Eisner Award-nominated team of artist Ashley Wood (“Popbot”) and writer Chris Ryall (“The Great and Secret Show”), a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies has only one chance at recovery – a team of robots that must protect and clone a lone surviving human baby. They just need to do this amidst the endless hordes of zombies who have been driven rabid by their frustration at inedible bots and their lust to eat the one living brain left on the planet.

This is a very different kind of film project for Borton, who has mostly been involved with heavy dramas. They other movie he co-wrote was The 33, which tells the the story of the trapped Chilean miners. This sounds like a project that he could really have some fun with though.

Michael Bay (Transformers) and Brad Fuller (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) are set to produce the film.

TRON 3 Needs to Live and There's a Petition to Sign

When I was 13 I discovered Tron. Tron was unlike anything I had seen before. Yeah, the CGI wasn't on par with the stuff I had grown up with, but it really struck a chord with me. I was instantly hooked on the world the film created. The Grid was just so unique. I knew I was experiencing something I had never seen before. It was one of the first movies where I really rooted for the heroes and had emotional investment in them.

Tron: Legacy was released in 2010, and even though it didn't necessarily have the heart of the original, it came pretty damn close. The Grid had never been more beautiful. I was so immersed in this digital realm. They took what Tron did and expanded on it in spectacular ways. The introduction of Quorra also added upon the philosophical layers that the first Tron only touched upon. A digital creation being introduced to the real world was a great way to end the film.

When it was recently announced that Disney was planning a third installment (Tron: Ascension), I was ecstatic. I was so excited to return to the Grid and see the effect Quora had on the real world. So I was incredibly heartbroken to learn that Disney has pulled the plug on it. I don't know why, but many are assuming that the underwhelming performance of Tomorrowland is to blame.

Tron and its characters and world are too amazing not to be explored. There are stories here, and it'd be a shame not to tell them or at least give people the ability to.

I advise those who share my feelings on Tron to sign the petition below. I don't know if it'll do any good, but all we can do is try and hope for the best. Hopefully I see you on The Grid.

Jon Hamm to Star in the Thriller HIGH WIRE ACT

Now that Mad Men has come to an end, I guess we can expect to start seeing more of Jon Hamm up on the big screen. He has signed on to star in a political thriller called High Wire Act

Brad Anderson, the director of films such as Session 9 and The Machinist, is set to helm the project from a script written by Tony Gilroy of The Bourne franchise.

The story is set in 1980s Beirut, and according to THR, Hamm plays “a former U.S. diplomat who is called back into service to save a former colleague from the group possibly responsible for his own family's death.”

Gilroy said in a statement:

“I'm thrilled the way the project's come together. Jon Hamm was made to play the part. I’ve been trying to work with Brad Anderson from the moment I saw Transsiberian, and every conversation we have confirms my confidence. I can't wait to see a script that means so much to me get up and running.”

Anderson added:

“Tony may have been channeling John le Carré when he wrote this, and as such it has many of the themes I love that make those stories so great — the political intrigue, the betrayals, the morally compromised characters, the reluctant heroes. And it's set in a world — war-torn Beirut — that's seldom depicted on screen."

I’m a big fan of the work that Anderson, Hamm, and Gilroy have developed, and I think they have the talent to turn this story into a great movie.

Katee Sackhoff to Star in Supernatural Horror Film DON’T KNOCK TWICE

Katee Sackhoff (Oculus, Riddick, Battlestar Galactica) is set to star in the supernatural horror film Don’t Knock Twice. The movie is being directed Caradog James (The Machine, Little White Lies), and it’s described as being in the same vein as Candyman and The Ring.

The movie is based on a psychologically terrifying urban legend that centers an estranged daughter and a guilt-ridden mother who must uncover the terrifying truth behind the urban legend of a vengeful, demonic witch.

Seeing that I’m a big fan of Sackhoff and psychological horror films, I’m excited to see what comes of this. The script comes from the Emmy-nominated writing team Mark Huckerby and Nick Ostler (Howl), and this is what studio head Jamie Carmichael said in a statement:

“Caradog has proven himself to be a very dynamic and innovative director, and clearly Katee brings a ton of experience and credibility to this genre too – they’re going to make a fantastic team. After the worldwide success of ‘The Machine’ we’re excited to be traveling this journey with Content again and thrilled to have landed Katee for our leading lady,” said Giwa-Amu and James.”

I think Sackhoff is an underrated actress who should be working more in film than she is. It’s always good to see her land movie roles like this.

Universal Studios Hollywood is about to open up a new nighttime version of their famous backlot Studio Tram Tour. They’ve started testing out the new spin on the old attraction, and they’ve released some videos giving us our first look at what it will include. It looks like it could be fun.

The following videos come from Inside Universal, and this is what they said about the new sequences that will be included in the tour:

Featuring Marilyn Monroe and Frankenstein, the Nighttime Studio Tour takes advantage of various sets located across the lot – combining live actors and special effects to add an extra dimension to the otherwise normal daytime tour. Marilyn Monroe can now be seen waving back to passerby guests as Frankenstein lunges towards the tram in Little Europe.
Projections are also used heavily throughout the Nighttime Tour, with scenes and characters projected on set windows across the lot. Notable moments including dinosaurs attacking inhabitants within the mobile unit RVs from Jurassic Park, Norman pacing back and forth with a knife in hand in the Psycho House, and various barroom fights taking place in Six Points Texas. King Kong 360 – 3D and Earthquake were also on the nighttime roster, adding traditional elements to an otherwise special tour of Universal’s sprawling backlot.

I’m surprised they didn’t do anything with the Back to the Future Clocktower Square area of the backlot. It still looks like fun, though. I love going to Universal Studios!

BREAKING BAD’s Jesse Plemons Joins Tom Cruise in MENA

Tom Cruise and Doug Liman are teaming up again for a film project called Mena. They previously worked together on Edge of Tomorrow, which was awesome, so the fact they are making another movie together is a great thing. Variety is reporting that Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights) has joined the cast which also includes Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), Sarah Wright (Parks and Recreation), E. Roger Mitchell (Selma), Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class), Jayma Mays (Glee), and Benito Martinez (House of Cards).

Cruise is playing a man named Barry Seal in the film, which is based on a true story. Seal was a hustler and TWA pilot who was “unexpectedly recruited by the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history — one that spawned the birth of the Medellin cartel and eventually almost brought down the Reagan White House through the Iran Contra scandal.”

Liman said about the project:

“I love stories of improbable heroes working against the system, and Barry Seal took the government, and our country, for an unbelievable ride. Interpreting his story has the makings for an entertaining film that is equal parts satire, suspense and comedy — and always surprising.”

This is an intriguing story, and one that I’m sure this talent will bring to life fantastically. The movie is set to be released on January 6th, 2017.

Far Out Trailer for the Coming-of-Age Film THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL

We’ve got a trailer for you to watch for one of the hit films from Sundance 2015 called The Diary of a Teenage Girl. I didn't get a chance to see the Marielle Heller-directed film while I was at the festival, but I’ve heard great things about it.

The movie is based on Phoebe Gloeckner‘s 2002 graphic novel of the same name. The adaptation is set in San Francisco during the 1970s, and the story follows a character named Minnie Goetze (Bel Powley), a young teenage girl experimenting with her sexuality, drugs, and more.

The movie also stars Kristen Wiig, Alexander Skarsgård, and Christopher Meloni. Here’s the synopsis:

Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Phoebe Gloeckner, The Diary of a Teenage Girl recounts the coming-of-age adventures of Minnie Goetze, a San Francisco teenager growing up in the counterculture haze of the 1970s.
Lonely and artistic, Minnie chronicles her trials through expressive drawings and painfully honest missives confided to a tape recorder. One fateful evening alone with her mother’s boyfriend, Minnie is confronted with her burgeoning sexuality for the first time, and suddenly this precocious teen is in way over her head.
In an astonishing feature debut, writer/director Marielle Heller renders a hybrid of live-action and animation, offering a subtle, detailed window into the psyche of a bright, young woman. Brimming with wit and intelligence, and spurred by exquisite performances from Alexander Skarsgård, Kristen Wiig, and a star-making turn by Bel Powley as Minnie, The Diary of a Teenage Girl captures the anxiety, passion, and wonder of adolescence.

The movie is set to be released this summer on August 7th, and it looks like it’s worth checking out.

Here’s a cool piece of Tron inspired art created by Sam Hetherington. The piece takes takes the most recent Tron film, Tron: Legacy, and gives it a fun retro-type vibe.  As you may have heard, it was reported last Friday that Disney cancelled their Tron 3 plans, which sucks ass for fans like me. I really wanted to see that movie happen. I guess it's now completely up to the fans to keep Tron alive in their various forms of art.

Felt is an intense-looking film that comes from writer-director Jason Banker, and it explores a character named Amy who is a victim of abuse and the unique and disturbing methods with how she deals with the trauma that she’s gone through. This is a movie that deals with some heavy subject matter including rape culture, abuse survival, and male entitlement.

We have red-band and green-band trailers for the film to give you an idea of how this subject matter is portrayed in the movie. Here’s the synopsis:

Amy is hanging on by a thread. Struggling to cope with past sexual trauma and the daily aggressions of a male-dominated society, she creates grotesquely-costumed alter egos that reappropriate the male form. While giving her the sense of power she craves, acting as these characters pushes her further into a world of her own making. When she begins a new relationship with a seemingly good guy, she opens herself up to him – but that vulnerability comes at a dangerous cost, and her alter egos threaten to lash out in explosive violence.

Felt will get a limited theatrical release on June 26th and VOD on July 21th.

Intriguing New Details on AMC’s FEAR THE WALKING DEAD

$

AMC has set a high standard for TV dramas such as their hit TV zombie series The Walking Dead. As you know, there’s a companion series coming called Fear The Walking Dead, it will tell the story of several new characters and will kind of serve as a prequel to The Walking Dead, so in this series we will witness the very beginning of the zombie apocalypse.

Thanks to showrunner Dave Erickson, we now have some additional details on what we can expect to see in the series from an interview with THR.

Here he talks about the timeframe of the series takes place in, and if it’s actually a prequel:

“We are loosely covering the period of time that [The Walking Dead's] Rick (Andrew Lincoln) was in his coma in season one. We're able to watch and experience the things that he missed. It's more of a parallel story than a prequel; imagine the opening where Rick gets shot and goes in his coma — that day was probably very close to our day one. We're playing out the idea of what was going on in the country and the world until he woke up, stepped outside and it's welcome to the apocalypse. That's why a "companion piece" has been the phrase used at the network. It's not a prequel in the sense of Better Call Saul, where we're jumping back six, seven years. It does tie very specifically into the pilot of the original. ‘Prequel’ is not the right word; it's kind of its own strange, hybrid thing. I wish I had a better word.”

He then discusses the origin of the outbreak and how it will still remain a secret like creator Robert Kirkman intended:

“I had a couple of early pitches that touched on what you're referring to and Robert shut me down. For him, it's never been about what caused it; it's always been about the impact it has on people. Robert's always said — and this is what we try to anchor Fear in is: Your parents got divorced or there are zombies. You didn't get invited to the prom, or there are zombies. Because we're starting a bit earlier and have more of a slow burn into the apocalypse of season one, it gives us the opportunity to really ground our family's problems. We have this highly dysfunctional, blended family and all the issues that they face and they would have faced if the apocalypse hadn't struck, those are the problems we're exploring. The main narrative drive is the conflicts within this family dynamic and how those things are exacerbated by the arrival of the apocalypse.”

He goes on to talk about the characters and the story:

“We're also trying to show what first is perceived as civic unrest and riots and suddenly we bleed into something that's wholly unnatural. It's about a family: Travis (Curtis) just moved in with his girlfriend Madison (Dickens) after they got married. She has two children, one of whom has some issues. Travis has a very pissed-off teenager and an ex-wife. You're talking about two people who, as the story opens, all they want is to bring their family together under one roof and make everyone whole. The irony for us is that the only thing that helps accomplish that is that the world ends. What's intriguing to me is to take these problems, which I think would make for a compelling drama, and put them in this much larger canvas and see how they play out. All of the issues that we establish, these are the things that in my head will come to fruition in seasons three, four, five and six. It forges an interesting introduction into this world. It's much more about the "shark" you don't see in season one. We obviously play some of the tropes — and there are definitely walkers — but it's people trying to wrap their brain around what the hell is going on and not fully understanding the zombie apocalypse by act one. It's going through that process of the colleague or the friend you had coffee with the day before is now trying to kill you. And your first thought's going to be, "They're sick, they're on something." It takes a bit of time for everyone to wrap their brains around what this truly means.”

When it comes to the central theme of the show, he explains:

“For us, it's actually one of the reasons why Los Angeles was so important to us. It's very much about identity and reinvention. The thing about California, or L.A. specifically, is that it is a place where many people — aside from the native Angelenos — go to in order to rebuild, reinvent or bury what's in their past. Many of our characters, as we will come to discover, have gone through some very unsavory things — histories that they try to bury. With the onset of the apocalypse, they're going to have choices to make as to whether they can tap into the darker sides of themselves things that they tried to distance themselves from in order to survive. They also end up going back to the quotidian of it. In a blended family, you're also dealing with people who have been in marriages and have lost loved ones; have been in marriages and gone through divorce; and they're going through their own identity shifts when we first meet them within the family drama world of things. Then, as everything becomes more serious, you're forced to shift, adjust and become the thing that you hated. There are some lovely intersections between some of the thematics on the original show, where at a certain point doing the right thing becomes the absolute wrong thing. We're going to start with some relationships, specifically the Travis and Madison relationship — which is beautiful and everything seems to be harmonious and they're truly in love — and we're going to put them through the ringer over the course of season one.”

He goes on to reveal that they are looking to tell the story of these characters over the course of five or six seasons. The first season will only have six episodes, but they hope to expand that to thirteen or more in the seasons that follow. Erickson discusses a lot more stuff about the show, so make sure to read the full interview.

Then in a separate interview with IGN, creator Robert Kirkman talks about how the show relates to family saying:

“One of the things we’re trying to play with this tight-knit family unit in Fear the Walking Dead is this concept of an extended unique family. What we have is Madison (Kim Dickens) and her family and we have Travis (Cliff Curtis) and his family. They’re building a relationship. They’re getting ready to be married. Civilization is crumbling around them. They both have kids from separate marriages. It’s just an interesting family dynamic to deal with in any story. But having all of the intricacies and struggles that come from that kind of family dynamic, and setting it against the fall of civilization and in the face of the zombie apocalypse just makes things that more interesting.”

That’s definitely a different dynamic from the original series, but it should work well. As for the kind of zombies that we’ll see in it, they are going to be less monstrous and more human-like. He explains:

“[The zombies in Fear the Walking Dead are] not going to be as decayed, and they’re not going to be as monstrous, which is going to make the violence in the show and the different things that happen that much more startling. Because we’re going to be dealing with a much more human walker. So while there is going to be a tremendous amount of paranoia and psychological trauma, I think there’s not going to be any loss of zombie action or excitement in this show. We’ll be bringing in the best of both worlds.”

There’s a lot of excitement for Fear The Walking Dead, and fans are expecting something awesome. Hopefully they deliver something that we’ll all be happy with.

Artist Rob Csiki created this great fan poster for Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man movie. The concept is a hell of a lot better than the most recent official posters that the studio has released. Marvel's Search for Spider-Man Narrows to Two Actors

$

With Captain America: Civil War currently shooting, I assumed that the new Spider-Man would have been cast already, and Marvel was just keeping it quiet. A couple weeks ago it was rumored that Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game) had been cast in the role, but it turns out he’s actually still testing for the part along with one other actor by the name of Tom Holland (The Impossible). The news comes from THR, and they are apparently the two finalists out of a group of actors that were being looked at. The report offers additional information on other actors who were up the part:

The other four hopefuls included: Judah Lewis (a relative newbie who will be seen in Jean-Marc Vallee’s fall drama Demolition), Matthew Lintz (who will be seen with Adam Sandler in this summer’s Pixels), Charlie Plummer (who had a recurring gig on Boardwalk Empire), and Charlie Rowe (a British actor who appeared on Fox’s short-lived Red Band Society).

I’m really rooting for Butterfield to get the role. I think he’s got everything Peter Parker needs. He’s also probably the more expensive choice for Marvel since he’s kind of a bigger name than Holland is, so if Marvel is looking to save some cash, then they’ll probably go with Holland, who also seems like a solid choice. I’m sure he’d be great; I just hope it goes to Butterfield.

Producers have looked at over 1,500 boys from around the world for the role of Peter Parker, and these narrowed down actors have been tested for the role over the weekend in Atlanta where Captain America: Civil War is currently shooting. The final decision is expected to be made very soon.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, producer Amy Pascal, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been at the auditions for these boys. Feige previously had this to say in an interview regarding Spider-Man:

“There is a young kid [already] running around New York City in a homemade version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU. You just don’t know it yet… In Spider-Man’s very specific case, where there have been two retellings of that origin in the last whatever it’s been – [thirteen] years – for us we are going to take it for granted that people know that, and the specifics.”

The first appearance of the new Spidey will be in Civil War, which comes out on May 6th, 2016. He will then get his own solo film from Sony Pictures, which set for release on July 28th, 2017.

Which of these two actors do you want to see land the role?

Last week we posted an opening title sequence for Marvel’s Daredevil in the style of Law & Order. We now have a new one that has been released by PoppedCulture, and this one reimagines the opening in the style of the '80s and '90s sitcom Night Court. It’s not hard to imagine Daredevil as a sitcom, especially with the 2003 film. Maybe they should have used that one for this little mashup.

“If You Give God-Like Powers to Everyone There’s Gonna Be Chaos.”

Marvel has released an Australian TV spot for Ant-Man. This movie is set to be released on July 17th, which means the film's marketing is going to kick into high gear soon. Remember the ridiculous number of trailers, clips, and promo spots for Avengers: Age of Ultron? I’m sure we’ll see just as much for Ant-Man over the next month and a half.

The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Doctor Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Ant-Man looks like it's going to be a ridiculously fun flick, and I think Marvel fans are going to be happy with it.

Stunning Concept Art for George Miller’s JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL

We recently learned that there’s a documentary in the early stages of development that will tell the story of George Miller’s canceled Justice League: Mortal film project. After Mad Max: Fury Road was released, fans wondered what this superhero would have been like, and now we have some concept art from it that gives us a little glimpse at what was being planned.

The concept art comes from a Twitter account set up by the producers of the upcoming doc, and the little bits of art they’ve released so far have been awesome. We’ve got a piece showing the character design they had for Aquaman; a sculpt of Martian Manhunter; an image of what looks like Wonder Woman catching a car that’s been thrown off of a building; and a stunningly beautiful illustration of Wonder Woman flying through Themyscira.

Aquaman would have been played by former Heroes actor Santiago Cabrera, and Megan Gale of Fury Road would have played Wonder Woman.

I’m looking at these illustrations, and it makes me even more curious about what Miller was trying to accomplish. The visuals are extremely , and maybe the filmmaker was on the right track. Check out the art below and let us know you think of the Miller’s vision.

Holy cow! You’ve got to watch this awesomely crafted mashup video of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining and Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. The video was created by Steve Ramsden and he calls it "The Grand Overlook Hotel." It’s amazing seeing how well these films fit together. It’s remarkably seamless! You’re going to enjoy this — it is one of the best mashups I’ve ever seen. Here’s a brief note from the creator:

I noticed how Wes Anderson and Stanley Kubrick frame their shots in a similar way - this was the result.
