Will Forte Joins Key & Peele in Stolen Cat Movie KEANU

0
0

Did you guys watch The Last Man on Earth? The first season of Will Forte's FOX TV series (which was executive produced by The LEGO Movie's Phil Lord and Chris Miller) seemed to be the actor/writer/showrunner's experiment of how far he could push his character into the realm of unlikeability, and although there were a few bumps along the way, Forte remains imminently watchable, even playing a colossal douchebag.

Now the former (and future?) MacGruber is heading back to the big screen, as THR says that Forte has joined the cast of Keanu, the first comedy that will star Comedy Central duo Key & Peele as the co-leads. Peter Atencio, who has directed episodes of both K&P and TLMOE, is at the helm here, with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele playing two friends who decide to act like drug dealers in order to save a stolen kitten. Method Man is playing a murderous drug lord who thinks K&P are legendary gangsters, and Gabrielle Union is playing Key's wife.

Forte will portray "a low-level pot dealer obsessed with black culture, though Peele’s character is the only black person he knows." Forte seems like a great "get" for them in a seemingly small role. This whole project sounds absolutely ridiculous, but with Key and Peele leading the creative charge, I'm fully on board.

Bloody Chainsaw Featured in Groovy New ASH VS. EVIL DEAD Teaser

"Come get some."

Starz has released a new teaser trailer for Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell's Ash vs. Evil Dead, and it features the return of the main character's chainsaw dripping with blood. It also offers us our first audio of Campbell saying the classic catchphrase, "Groovy."

The 10 episode series is currently in production in New Zealand, and here are details:

Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead.  When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal.  Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

The cast is led by Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) in the role of Ash Williams, Lucy Lawless (“Salem,” “Spartacus”) as Ruby a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks, Jill Marie Jones (“Sleepy Hollow”) as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner, Ray Santiago (“Touch,” Meet the Fockers) as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick and Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past.

POINT BREAK Remake Tries To Justify Its Existence With Extreme Sports Featurette

I'm a massive fan of Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 film Point Break, and though I'm not completely opposed to remakes — John Carpenter's The Thing was a remake, after all — the new Point Break that's coming out later this year looks pretty awful.

Warner Bros. has released a new featurette that attempts to justify the film's existence by talking about how it's going to increase the scale of the movie and include more extreme sports this time around, but I'm not sure that's going to be enough to have it stand out in any sort of meaningful way. I hope the film ends up being good (as I do with every movie I see), but as of right now, I'm not setting my expectations very high for this one.

Point Break stars Luke Bracey, Edgar Ramirez, Ray Winstone, Teresa Palmer, and Delroy Lindo, and it arrives in theaters on Christmas Day. There's a bunch of new footage in this featurette, which you can check out below:

HBO's New Animated Series ANIMALS Might Have The Funniest Voice Cast of All Time

0
0

Deadline reports that HBO has given a two season order to a new animated comedy called Animals that hails from executive producers Jay and Mark Duplass. And as the headline teased, I think this voice cast may be the funniest group of people ever assembled for a single show. Get a load of these names:

Aziz Ansari, Nick Kroll, Mark Duplass, Kate Aselton, Rob Corddry, Ellie Kemper, Marc Maron, Ike Barinholtz, Jason Mantzoukas, Nathan Fielder, Paul Scheer, Matt Walsh, Chelsea Peretti, Zach Woods, and Adam Scott. Holy crap, that's a lot of talented people. It's like UCB's greatest hits all coming together in the same show.

The show is the brainchild of Phil Matarese & Mike Luciano, who wrote and directed the whole first season, which is in post-production right now. Here's the synopsis:

Animals revolves around the downtrodden creatures native to Earth’s least habitable environment: New York City. Whether it’s lovelorn rats, gender-questioning pigeons or aging bedbugs in the midst of a midlife crisis, the awkward small talk, moral ambiguity and existential woes of non-human urbanites prove startlingly similar to our own.

Animals will debut on HBO sometime in 2016. What do you think?

Armello Announced For PS4

News like this gets me all jazzed up. To be fair, that could be the 3 cups of coffee I’ve had up to this point, but I’ll just give credit to the news. If you haven’t heard of Armello, it is a digital board game that tasks you with earning the crown or taking it by force. It also happens to have a beautiful art style, reminiscent of a classic Don Bluth film. The game has been in early access on Steam for a little while now, but League of Geeks has also been developing a PS4 version alongside it. All the tweaks and adjustments made on the original are being put to use on the PS4 version, while the visuals get some added luster to take advantage of the new hardware. I couldn’t be happier that console gamers will get to experience this fantastic-looking game, which will be available in September. In the meantime, check out the teaser trailer below, as well as some extended gameplay and some additional screens. Oh, and if you want to get an even deeper look into the game, check out the interview I got to have with Trent Kusters, regarding the game and its now-completed Kickstarter campaign.

Harley Quinn Ripping It Up On a Motorcycle in New SUICIDE SQUAD Set Photos

This latest collection of Suicide Squad set photos focus on Margot Robbie as Dr. Harleen Quinzel a.k.a. Harley Quinn tearing up the streets on a motorcycle. She's apparently using it to get ahead of the Joker's sports car to stop him. There's also video for you to watch, as well as some more shots of the Batmobile

Robbie is so perfect for this role it's ridiculous. I can't wait to see how exactly she brings this character to life, but she definitely has the look. You can see some previous released set photos at the following links: Set Photos and Videos with The Joker, Harley Quinn, and MoreVideo of [SPOILER] Hanging from Joker's Car, and Set Photos Feature Strange Creatures

The movie is set to be released in theaters on August 5th, 2016!

Supercut: 101 One-Armed Movie Saves Set To "I Want To Hold Your Hand"

I don't imagine a situation is ever going to befall you in which you're going to A) need to reach out and grab someone with one hand to save his/her life and B) actually be able to pull them up to a ledge or swing them to safety. Unless you're Dwayne Johnson, that is. He can do anything. Have you seen that dude's arms?

At any rate, Ryan Holland and Lucky Treehouse (via LaughingSquid) have teamed up to create this supercut of 101 times this happens in the movies, and it's appropriately set to The Beatles' classic song "I Want To Hold Your Hand." At least it's not "I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight," eh?

George R.R. Martin Won't Return To GAME OF THRONES For Season 6

0
0

We knew that A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin wouldn't write an episode of the current fifth season of HBO's Game of Thrones, but now Entertainment Weekly says that the author won't contribute an episode to the upcoming sixth season either, instead devoting more of his time to finishing The Winds of Winter, the next book in the popular series.

We've already written about how Martin is skipping his normal San Diego Comic-Con appearance this year in order to focus on completing his book, which he hopes to have published before Season 6 of Game of Thrones begins airing, which, if it lives up to historical precedent, will be next April. I just finished reading A Storm of Swords, the third book in the series, and it's one of the best books I've ever read. SO MANY of the series' biggest moments take place in that particular book, and I'm eager to continue reading in the hopes of catching up before next season begins. Martin has really been hunkering down lately to finish The Winds of Winter, and as the show continues to stray ever farther from the books, fans are hoping the author finishes quickly so they can consume the next chapter of his awesome fantasy saga.

“Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish,” the author told EW. “But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”

I know you've probably all seen a Luke Skywalker collectible action figure from Hot Toys before, but none of them are as insanely detailed as the latest one they released. As you can see, the likeness of Mark Hamill from Star Wars is uncanny. On top of that, the figure comes along with a ridiculous amount of accessories, some of which include a poncho, macrobinoculars, sun hat, a rifle, his Lightsaber, training droid, and even a blast helmet. You can see all of these thing in the images below.

Here's the description that came along with the reveal:

"I'm Luke Skywalker. I'm here to rescue you.” – Luke Skywalker

Originally just a moisture farmer on the planet Tatooine, the young Luke Skywalker’s life began to change forever when he purchased two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO, and met the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, the infamous smugglers Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia! Luke’s actions helped change the fate of the galaxy by assisting the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire and destroying the terrifying Death Star.

Today, Hot Toys is very excited to officially reveal the collectible figure of the central character in the original Star Wars trilogy – the 1/6th scale Luke Skywalker Collectible Figure from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope!

The movie-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in the film featuring a newly developed head sculpt, specially tailored costume, LED-lighted lightsaber, a hat with goggles, a poncho, detailed accessories, and a figure stand. A special edition is available in selected markets which include an additional Stormtrooper belt with grappling hook, a communicator, and a blaster rifle.

Your Star Wars collection wouldn’t be complete without this Luke Skywalker collectible figure.

LUMBERJANES Comic Getting Live-Action Film Adaptation

0
0

Shannon WattersNoelle StevensonGrace Ellis, and Brooke A. Allen's comic Lumberjanes is headed for the big screen. The Eisner-nominated BOOM! Studios comic was originally published as a miniseries before becoming an ongoing title for the company, and The Wrap reports that a live-action adaptation is in the works at 20th Century Fox.

I haven't had a chance to check it out for myself yet, but the beloved comic follows the adventures of five awesome girls spending the summer at a scout camp where they battle supernatural creatures. It's apparently a great read, and it's always nice to see a female-centric Hollywood movie make it through the male-dominated system. Will Widger is set to write the screenplay, and he doesn't have any produced credits yet — although his film noir script The Munchkin made last year's Blacklist of the best unproduced screenplays. Here's hoping he's able to translate what everyone loves about the comics over into the film version. The studio is reportedly already thinking about getting a female directors as soon as the script is finished.

Have you read Lumberjanes? Would it make a good movie?

Driftwood Turned Into Cool Superhero and STAR WARS Characters

If you live on a body of water, you've encountered your fair share of driftwood. But what do you do with it? Throw it back into the water? Turn it into firewood? How about craft it into superheroes and Star Wars characters?

As you can see in the photos below, that's exactly what French artist Anna Foucher decided to do in a series called Boud'Bois. She's also turned driftwood into Vikings, pirates, and more, and you can check out the full photo set at her website. I've posted some of the superhero and Star Wars pieces below.

Michael Chiklis Joins Noomi Rapace in Sci-Fi Film RUPTURE

0
0

Noomi Rapace already ruptured once in Prometheus (that self-surgery sequence was brutal to watch), but if The Fantastic Four and The Shield actor Michael Chiklis has his way, she'll be doing it again very soon.

Deadline reports that Chiklis has just signed on to play the villainous Bald Man in a sci-fi thriller titled Rupture, which follows "a single mother (Rapace) struggling to raise her 12-year-old son alone who is abducted by a mysterious organization. Tied up in their lab, they question her about her medical history, eventually revealing that she has a genetic abnormality that her worst fear can cause her to “rupture” — causing her own alien nature to be released." The Bald Man is the head of the organization that captures the woman.

Chiklis hasn't spent too much time on the big screen since he became a household name playing a corrupt cop on FX's The Shield, preferring to pop up in things like American Horror Story and Sons of Anarchy among ill-fated shows like No Ordinary Family and Vegas. I'll be curious to see how he handles the role of a Big Bad in a sci-fi thriller opposite Rapace. Shooting begins next month, so I'd expect Rupture to hit theaters sometime in 2016.

Impressive Action Short Film STRINGS Has An Ending You Won't See Coming

Jimmy Loweree's short film Strings is a nice example of a very effective use of the medium. It tells a story succinctly and doesn't over-explain things or come off as trying too hard. The crisp, clean cinematography and slick fight choreography highlight a cool concept that left me wanting more...in a good way.

Strings is an intense short film about a captive woman who is kept sedated for a very good reason. She is extremely valuable, and the battle to free her will determine her fate.

Shot in two days in Los Angeles, it was a test to see how ambitious the team could be with limited resources.

Even if you tried to guess it beforehand, I'd wager you still won't see this ending coming.

Disney Has Killed TRON 3

disney-has-killed-tron-3

I've got some insanely terrible news for all you Tron fans out there. THR is reporting that Disney is no longer moving forward with their plans for Tron 3. This was a movie that I was incredibly excited about seeing get made, but apparently it's not going anywhere.

The project was never officially greenlit, but things seemed to be moving forward fast. Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski was set to return to helm the sequel, and both Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund were going to reprise their roles as the main characters.

Pre-production on the film started earlier this year, and the studio was looking to shoot it this fall. There's no word on why exactly they passed on the project, but I wonder if one of the reasons is because Tomorrowland underperformed at the box office. That might have sparked bad memories of Tron: Legacy underperforming at the box office when it was first released.

I'm really bummed out about this news. Tron is such a cool franchise, and I believe it still has awesome potential. We just won't get to see it.

New Photo from SUPERGIRL Series, Melissa Benoist Talks About Her Role

new-photo-from-supergirl-series-and-melissa-benoist-talks-about-her-role

Thanks to Variety we have a new photo of Supergirl from the upcoming new series coming to CBS. I’m sure you’ve heard already that the pilot episode had leaked on the internet. As I’ve read through the reactions of people who have watched it, I’ve noticed a lot of people say that it’s better than they thought it would be. So maybe it leaking out wasn't the worst thing that could happen for the series, which got a lot of negative buzz when the trailer was released.

The series stars Melissa Benoist in the title role, and when talking about it she said:

“I never imagined myself getting a role like this. There are moments when I step back and look at the bigger picture and I’m on the set with fire and explosions and I’m in the suit — and I’ll have to do a double-take.”

I can only imagine how cool it would be to land a superhero role like this. I hope it turns out well for her.

The series also stars Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, plus Dean Cain and Helen Slater in mystery roles.

Supergirl is based on the characters from DC Comics and centers on Kara Zor-El, who comes to Earth after escaping the destruction of Krypton. After many years hiding her abilities, she joins the ranks of her cousin Superman to become the hero she was meant to be.

The series is expected to debut in November.

FANTASTIC FOUR Character Profile Videos Offer Background Info

fantastic-four-video-character-profiles-offer-background-info

Four promo videos have been released for Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four, and they offer us some interesting background details on the main heroes of the story. Dr. Franklin Storm (Reg E. Cathey) provides some insight into the strengths and weaknesses of Mr. Fantastic (Miles Teller), the Human Torch (Michael B. Jordan), Invisible Woman (Kate Mara), and The Thing (Jamie Bell).

I'm curious to see how this movie does when it’s released, both at the box office and  with the fans. It seems like some many of them have already decided to hate the movie, so when they see it, the film will either meet their low expectations or surprise the hell out of them with something great.

The movie hits theaters on August 7th. Do you think it will be a dud or something awesome?

M. Night Shyamalan Stupidly Explains Why No One Liked THE LAST AIRBENDER

0
0

To this day, I haven’t watched M. Night Shaymalan’s The Last Airbender all the way through. I walked out of the film when it was released in theaters, and I’ve had no desire to ever finish it. It was just one of those movies that I wasn’t going to waste my time on. The movie was bashed by critics, and I have yet to met a single person who has actually liked the movie.

Talking to IGN, the director attempted to explain why people didn’t like the movie. Of course, he wouldn’t come out and say that he did a piss-poor job. Instead he says it was made for 9 and 10-year-olds, and thats why most audiences didn’t get it. Here’s what he said:

"My child was nine-years-old. So you could make it one of two ways. You could make it for that same audience, which is what I did -- for nine and 10-year-olds -- or you could do the Transformers version and have Megan Fox. I didn't do that. That would have felt like, 'Well, I'm going to make a movie about a kids show that my 10-year-old is watching and not make it for her. I make it for my guy friends.' That felt like a betrayal of the innocence of the piece. In retrospect, is it too young to go out -- it's like what your intention is versus what they want it to be. Clearly, 10-year-olds -- I go out and 10-year-olds are like, 'That's my favorite show! I love that movie!' Parents come up to me and go, 'They've watched The Last Airbender 74 times!' Those kids, it's for them. It was for them, to talk about mysticism and Eastern philosophies through a 10-year-old's vernacular. So, you know, these are business propositions, which have very little interest to me, of like, 'Hey, the business proposition is to get Megan Fox to be...' You know, 'You should age it 'til it's that.' That wasn't the source material, you know what I mean? Whereas, also, like a Transformers, it's really fascinating, because it's valid for Transformers. You know why it's valid? Because it's the little boys that were playing with them are grown up now. They're the ones who wanted to see Megan Fox. That's absolutely appropriate, you know what I mean?"

I’m sorry, but that’s complete bullshit. Look at all the great kids films that have been made over the years that even adults enjoy watching. Studios like Pixar, Disney, and even Marvel are constantly pumping out films for audiences of all ages. On top of that, the original Avatar cartoon that the film was based on was better than the movie, it was something adults also enjoyed watching, and it had a more diverse reach. Making a movie strictly for 9 and 10-year-olds probably isn’t the best business plan for any filmmaker.

Why can't the guy just come out and admit that he screwed up and made a crappy film, instead of putting the blame on other things? This is just such a ridiculous excuse. A talented director could have made an awesome Avatar movie that everyone could have enjoyed, Shyamalan obviously wasn’t that guy.
