Peyton Reed Explains Differences Between His ANT-MAN and Edgar Wright's Version

0
0

Regardless of the quality of director Peyton Reed's take on Marvel's Ant-Man — and I think we're all hoping he's made something great — the film will forever be linked to Edgar Wright, and movie fans will wonder about the movie he might have made if things worked out a little differently.

In the new issue of Empire Magazine (via The Playlist), Reed spoke a little about his new movie, and before we get to the Edgar Wright stuff, let's get one thing out of the way: we might see another character from the MCU appear in the movie. Here's what he said when asked:

"That's classified information. That's buried. It's possible."

Place your bets on who it could be in the comments below. Moving on...Reed also spoke about the awkwardness of taking over the movie after Wright and Marvel split:

"Was it a strange situation? Absolutely. One of my concerns upfront was, 'Someone else has developed this movie for a really long time. Can I come in and make it my own?' And that has absolutely been the case. For one thing Marvel [has] let me explore the dark side of Hank Pym, this tortured, guilt-ridden guy… [Edgar Wright and I] both acknowledged the general weirdness of the situation. It's all very odd, but it's been really nice to communicate with him."

So it sounds like the two filmmakers are cool with each other about the whole thing. But what is the main difference between the two versions of the film?

“I think the most defining difference between the two scripts was that Edgar's didn't take itself as seriously. It was fun and silly and brilliant[ly] irreverent - a romp from beginning to end, in classic English fashion. Whereas where we've gotten to is so much more American. There's tons of levity, but just as much emotion."

I don't blame Reed for trying to put his own spin on this movie, because he came into a practically impossible situation with what must have been a crazy burden on his shoulders and tried to make the best of it. But I have to admit: hearing the tone of Wright's movie, it just makes me want to see his version of Ant-Man even more. Obviously that's never going to happen, but it just adds more fuel to the "what if" fire that fans will be discussing for years to come. Here's hoping Reed's Ant-Man makes us forget a little bit of the behind-the-scenes drama and allows us to connect to the drama that's happening on screen. Check out some new photos below. Ant-Man opens on July 17th.

George Clooney Calls BATMAN & ROBIN A "Disaster"

Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin is one of the worst superhero films ever made, and seemingly no one is more aware of that than the film's star, George Clooney. Rumor had it that a few years ago, if you saw Clooney on the street and told him you paid to see Batman & Robin in theaters, he'd bust out his wallet and reimburse you for the price of the movie ticket. He's apologized profusely for the movie many times since it came out, and now he's at it again. While on the Graham Norton Show promoting Tomorrowland, Clooney called the film a "disaster" and explained what it was wearing a 60 pound suit and trying to work for the "eccentric" Schumacher on set.

Stephen King’s IT Loses Director Cary Fukunaga

I was ecstatic about what True Detective director Cary Fukanaga was planning for his two part big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. Unfortunately, he’s no longer attached to direct it, and it seems like the adaptation that we were all hoping for is no longer going to happen.

The director dropped out of the project over the weekend, and apparently the reason was budget concerns. According to Variety, New Line Cinema changed their minds about the two-part movie and want to condense the story down into one film, which would be a disaster.

Fukanga understands that this story can’t properly be told in only one movie, and because the studio and director couldn’t agree on that or a budget for the film he decided to walk away. He has been developing this adaptation since 2012, King was in full support of his vision for the film, and now that vision is dead.

I’m sure the movie will eventually move forward, but it will be with a director who will bend to the studio’s will. So if we ever see IT brought to the big screen, we’ll probably only see one film, which doesn’t interest me at all.

Earlier this month we learned that Will Poulter was going to take on the role of Pennywise the clown. He was an interesting choice to take on the role, and I was curious to see what Fukunaga's vision of this evil villain would be. After this new hit, King wrote the following on his Facebook page:

"The remake of IT may be dead--or undead--but we'll always have Tim Curry. He's still floating down in the sewers of Derry."

The story follows a group of outcast kids who come together over summer break to take on a terrifying clown creature troubling their town, only to face their own personal demons in the process. The first film would have focused on the characters as kids in the story, and the second one would have centered on them as adults.

This is one of those instances where I’m completely disappointed in Hollywood. They really had a great thing going with Fukunaga, who actually seemed to know what he was doing with this story, and now it’s gone.

Custom MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Vehicles Made From LEGO

I love it when talented LEGO builders use the popular bricks to create custom badassery. We've posted a lot of LEGO builds inspired by movies over the years, and now someone has built a set of insane vehicles from Mad Max: Fury Road

These come from Flickr user “LEGO Will,” and the set includes the War Rig, which is driven by by Imperator Furiosa in the film. We also have an awesome version of Immortan Joe’s modified 1959 Cadillac, which has been mashed together with the Ghostbusters Ecto-1. There are also a few other vehicles that I'm sure you'll recognize.

I love it when people use their talents to create this kind of awesomeness so that we can bask in the glory.

Steven Spielberg Takes You Behind the Scenes of JURASSIC WORLD

“To see Jurassic World come to life is like seeing Jurassic Park come true.”

Universal Pictures released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Jurassic World that gives us some additional insight from producer Steven Spielberg. The video also offers some great new footage for fans to enjoy.

The film is being directed by Colin Trevorrow, and the new deadly adventure is set 22 years after the events of Spielberg’s original 1993 film, Jurassic Park. Jurassic World is a direct sequel to the first film, and it will act as if parts two and three never happened.

The movie stars Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Spider-Man 3), Ty Simpkins (Insidious, Iron Man 3), Jake Johnson (Let’s Be Cops), Nick Robinson (The Kings of Summer), Irrfan Khan (Life of Pi, The Amazing Spider-Man), Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil), BD Wong (Jurassic Park), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Judy Greer (Tomorrowland), Katie McGrath (Merlin), Lauren Lapkus (Blended, The To Do List), and Andy Buckley (Bridesmaids, The Other Guys).

Jurassic World hits theaters on June 12th, 2015.

Black Canary Bishoujo By Kotobukiya Up For Pre-Order

Fans of the Birds of Prey can finally complete their set, as Kotobukiya’s Black Canary Bishoujo is finally up for pre-order. For the most part, Dinah seems worth the wait. The pose is flirty but not to a ridiculous degree. She also sports her classic Pre New 52 (guess now I really don’t need to specify that anymore) outfit, which I’m not going to lie is still my favorite, impractical as it may be. The only downside I see here is Koto’s decision to change the base. Nothing wrong with it on its own, but when put on the shelf alongside Batgirl and Huntress, it sticks out to a significant degree. Guess I’ll just have to find a motorcycle that works in scale and put that next to her. That should clear things right up.

Some Mysteries of ANT-MAN’s Suit Unveiled

The Ant-Man suit that Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) wears in Marvel’s upcoming superhero film looks awesome. They did a great job nailing the look of the character, but there’s still a great deal that we don’t know about it. A lot of people aren’t really sure how the suit actually works, but thanks to costume designers Sammy Sheldon and Ivo Coveney, we have some details that shed some light on the properties of the suit.

First, Sheldon explains how Lang could die without it:

"When you shrink, the molecules in the air are too big for your lungs. He has to be fully contained or he'd die."

This means that the shrinking action will only be contained to when Lang is wearing the suit. I think many people assumed that would be the case, but in the comics there have been times when Ant-man wasn’t wearing his suit, like this one.

The article then hints at the possibility that the Pym Particles could be included in the story. The report talks about “mysterious chemicals” that will be sent into Lang’s body through special tubing that Coveney discusses,

"We had a long discussion about the two cables going into his helmet. They're a massive weakness - Yellowjacket could just rip them off and he's dead. But, in the end, it just looks cooler with them on."

Sheldon adds,

"The fact that he's shrinking is enough to get away with anything else, really!"

It’s hard to imagine the costume without the cables going into the helmet. I think they did a great job with the costume design, and it will be interesting to see it evolve from film to film in the Marvel cinematic universe.

Ant-Man hits theaters on July 17th, and the character is also set to appear in Captain America: Civil War. To read about how director Payton Reed's film version of Ant-Man is different than Edgar Wright's, click here

Badass Variant Darth Maul Action Figure from Square Enix

badass-variant-darth-maul-action-figure-from-square-enix

Square Enix has revealed another action figure in their Play Arts Kai action figure line, and this one is of the Sith villain Darth Maul from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. As you can see in the photos, this thing looks insanely awesome.

Square Enix is kicking ass with this pop culture toy series. The detail that’s included on everything they release is stunning. This Dynamic Darth Maul figure stands 10-inches tall, and comes with a stand, some additional hands to hold things, and three lightsabers — his double-blade saber along with a version that has been split in half. He also comes with two heads: one mischievously grinning, and the other one looking stern as hell.

The Variant Darth Maul figure will be available in August in Japan, for 13,000 Yen, which is around $100 in the U.S. To see some of the other figures from Square Enix, click on the following links: STAR WARS: Boba Fett and Stormtrooper Variant FiguresDarth Vader Variant Action Figure, and Hardcore Thor Variant Action Figure.

Channing Tatum Gives GAMBIT Movie Update, Confirms Origin Story

0

Channing Tatum is currently prepping to join the X-Men cinematic universe as the kinetically charged southern mutant Gambit. From the moment the possibility was thrown out there that Tatum could play Gambit, I was on board. I think the guy could be awesome in the role if the character is handled properly. In the most recent issue of Empire Magazine (via: Comic Book), Tatum shared some information regarding the story and where the development currently stands. First, he talked about his love of the character and how he identifies with him:

"I love Gambit. I grew up in the South; my father's from Louisiana. We'd go to New Orleans and I heard all the dialects. It felt so different from the rest of America; it has its own ancient culture. So I identified with that. And he always felt the most real of the X-Men to me. He's kind of a tortured soul and he's not a good guy. But he's not a bad guy, either. He walks his own path. And of course he plays cards and drinks and is a martial-arts badass!"

When talking about the movie itself, he revealed that the film will be an origin story and that the first draft of the script is complete.

"Josh Zetumer just turned in the first draft of the script, and it's killer. None of us were sure how he was going to deal with the X-Men world. But we're going to be changing some of the tropes of these movies. It's always about saving the world (Laughs), but maybe we're going to shift things a little bit. There's so many ways you can take [an origin story]. You could do it like Batman Begins, or a different take and go the Guardians of the Galaxy route. All I can say is, I'm super excited."

Zetumer developed the script from a treatment by Gambit creator, and X-Men comics legend, Chris Claremont. That should at least give fans some hope that the movie is headed in the right direction. Gambit is scheduled to open in theaters on October 7th, 2016.

Predator Hunts the Knights Templar in Short Film - PREDATOR: DARK AGES

predator-hunts-the-knights-templar-in-short-film-predator-dark-ages

A month ago we shared a trailer for an awesome looking fan-made Predator short film called "Predator: Dark Ages." The full short is now available online for you to watch, and it follows a group of Knights Templar who are being hunted by one of the most dangerous and brutal creatures in the universe.

The film was directed by James Bushe, and it turned out to be really fun. You can tell these talented individuals had limitations, but they worked with what they had, and in the end it turned out really well. Here's the brief synopsis:

Set during the Crusades, the faith & fighting skills of a group of Templar Knights is put to the test when they encounter the Predator. Their battle is the thing Myths and Legends are born from.

These 11th century Templar Knights didn't have the muscles or weaponry that Arnold Schwarzenegger did in the original film, and it was entertaining to watch them try to take on the creature. One of the things I liked most about the movie is that it has a solid story built around the hunt instead of the special effects spectacle that a lot of people go for these days. The movie stays true to what type of character the Predator is. He hunts for sport, and he wants a challenge.

George Miller’s Aborted JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL Will Be Subject of New Documentary

George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the biggest and most talked about films of the year. That movie turned out to be extremely awesome, and it left many fans wondering what his Justice League: Mortal film would have ended up being like had it actually happened.

Miller started working on developing Justice League: Mortal for Warner Bros. back in 2009, and like many of you I was excited about it! I was more excited about that version of the film than I am about the upcoming Justice League movies being developed by Zack Snyder.

The Justice League: Mortal cast included Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) as Batman, Adam Brody (The OC) as Wally West/The Flash, Megan Gale (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Wonder Woman, D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as Superman, Jay Baruchel (This is the End) as Maxwell Lord, Common as John Stewart/Green Lantern, and Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max: Fury Road) as the Martian Manhunter. The development of the film fell apart after having production location issues, and then there was the Writers' Strike, which was the final nail in the coffin.

Director Ryan Unicomb is looking to shed some more light on the production, give us some additional insight into where the film was headed, and explain in more detail what killed it. In an interview with Inside Film, he said:

“I have always been fascinated with project, which would be in the same vein as 2013’s Jodorowsky’s Dune and this year’s The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, about a Superman movie that Tim Burton was to direct in the 1990s.”

Unicomb has already gathered a team of producers, writers, and investors to help bring the documentary to life, but there’s a chance that he may also start a crowd-funding campaign to help push the project forward.

I’m totally interested in seeing a documentary on this subject matter. I’d love to learn all there is to know about this project. It’s one of those what if films I would have loved to see get made, and this documentary might be the next best thing.

Are you interested in learning more about how Miller’s Justice League movie would have turned out?

See Pixar's Deleted Scene Explaining The Origins of TOMORROWLAND

If you saw Tomorrowland this past weekend, you'll probably remember some discussion about a group called Plus Ultra, which consisted of Thomas Edison, Jules Verne, Nikola Tesla, and Gustave Eiffel. In the film's alternate history, these creative giants put their heads together and became the founders of Tomorrowland, a utopian land in which scientists were free to experiment without boundaries in an effort to innovate and inspire.

Director Brad Bird, who won two Oscars for Best Animated Film while working at Pixar, reteamed with the company on Tomorrowland, originally envisioning an animated sequence that would provide some backstory about the creation of Plus Ultra at the beginning of the film when Frank goes under the It's A Small World ride. The scene, which contains voice work by Maurice LaMarche, was cut from the final release, but now it's available to watch online, so you can check it out below:

There is now 100% confirmation that a certain character will be included in Suicide Squad. If you don't want to know who that confirmed character is, then stop reading now. SPOILERS ahead.

It has been rumored for a while that director David Ayer's Suicide Squad would include Ben Affleck's Batman. Affleck was already spotted on the set of the film, but it was still unconfirmed that he would be in the movie.

Now we actually have some videos from the set of the film featuring Batman chasing down Jared Leto's Joker and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn in his Batmobile. That's as solid a confirmation as you can get.

This is some pretty exciting stuff. It will be really interesting to see the two new versions of these characters interacting with each other. To read up on some additional leaked details on how Batman will fit into the story, click here.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson's Fan Wedding Surprise

Dwayne Johnson seems like one of the coolest and nicest guys ever. To prove that point, he did something pretty incredible for one of his biggest fans. During a press junket for his upcoming earthquake action thriller San Andreas, the actor led a big wedding surprise for fan and journalist Nick Mundy at Screen Junkies.

Mundy thought that he was going to be involved with a video interview bit prank with Johnson at the junket, but the tables were turned on him when he found out that The Rock was actually going to be officiating his wedding right there that same day.

In the video below, you'll be able to watch how the funny and touching moment plays out. You gotta hand it to Johnson for being such a class act.

Is Jaden Smith Starring in a Live-Action STATIC SHOCK Series?

0
0

Back in October of last year, Warner Bros. announced the studio was developing a live-action Static Shock digital series based on Dwayne McDuffie, Robert L. Washington III, and artist John Paul Leon's superhero comic Static. My only knowledge of this character comes from seeing a few episodes of the animated TV series back in 2000, but I know he's a beloved character and fans have wanted to see a live-action take on him for a long time. For those who don't know, Static is Virgil Hawkins, a kid imbued with electromagnetic powers after being exposed to mutagenic gas.

As far as the official word goes, we haven't heard anything from WB since the initial announcement about the development (with Django Unchained producer Reginald Hudlin producing). But unofficially, we may have just found out who's playing the main character in the new digital series.

Actor Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris, The Walking Dead) recently spoke with Flicks and the City, and in discussing the idea of him potentially playing Miles Morales in Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man film — which would be cool, but seemingly very unlikely considering the recent rumors we've heard — he drops some info about the Static Shock series that might be of interest to fans. Consider this an unconfirmed rumor for now, but during the interview, he says:

"It's great to see Static Shock is happening with Jaden..."

That could just be Williams recounting a rumor that he heard, or he could have inside info on the subject, but again, let's consider this unconfirmed for now. Still, with his father Will on set right now working on Suicide Squad for WB, it's not like it would be much of a stretch for the company to bring Jaden into the fold. What do you think? Is Jaden a good fit for Static Shock?

Watch: What If Movie Characters Said What Their Actors Tweeted?

If you follow any actors on Twitter, you know that occasionally, in between all of the self-promotional stuff, you'll often find tweets that leave you scratching your head. Sometimes it's a strong political stance, sometimes it's a philosophical mantra, and sometimes it's something completely random. What do you expect? Hollywood is a weird place.

The people at College Humor have taken this concept to the next level by mashing up animations of popular movie characters reciting tweets by the actors who portray them. It's a great idea, and there's so much material that this could be turned into a video series that could last for years. Check it out below, and let us know what you think.

Ryan Reynolds Wants Wolverine to Make a Cameo in DEADPOOL

0
0

Do you know what would make the upcoming Deadpool movie even better? Having Hugh Jackman's Wolverine make a cameo. They've already shared the screen together in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that movie doesn't really count. Deadpool will already feature several mutant characters, but the one that really matters is Wolverine. As you know, these two characters have a long history with each other, and it would be completely appropriate for Wolverine to show up in the movie, even if it's just for a brief cameo.

During an interview with News.com.au, Ryan Reynolds expresses his hope that Wolverine would be able to be in the movie. When asked about it, he said:

“God I hope so, that would be really nice. I dunno, we’ll see. It seems like he’s open to it, but it’s gonna be more of a scheduling issue than anything else.”

Jackman has previously confirmed that the next Wolverine film would be his last time playing the character, and explained why he is ready to walk away. That doesn't mean he won't be in Deadpool though, as that movie would come out first. On top of that, Reynolds says that Jackman is open to it. So they've obviously had discussions, and if he can find room in his schedule to make it happen, maybe we'll actually see Wolverine show up.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

The movie also stars TJ Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, and Ed Skrein as Ajax. The Tim Miller-directed film will also feature Colossus.

Deadpool is scheduled for a release on February 12th, 2016. Do you want to see Wolverine pop up in the movie?

Writer Chris Morgan Talks About The Tone of Schwarzenegger's THE LEGEND OF CONAN

0
0

Chris Morgan is perhaps best known as the primary writer of the Fast & Furious franchise, but he has some other projects brewing while we wait on Furious 8 to come to fruition. One of those is The Legend of Conan, which is being envisioned as a sequel to 1982's Conan The Barbarian that takes place thirty years later (not unlike the way Star Wars: The Force Awakens operates on the timeline).

Morgan has spoken about the movie before, but in a new interview with The Arnold Fans, the writer/producer talks about the film's tone and aspiring to achieve something similar to what John Milius did with the original:

A light-hearted Conan?! CROM! No. Our tone is a logical extension of the character established in the ’82 film…but 30 years later. When we meet him again, Conan has been many things over the course of his life — a thief, a warrior, a pirate, a king, a legend — and is now an older man. Think Unforgiven…with a sword-wielding barbarian.
Milius was a visionary. And a hero of mine. He established a milieu that is stunning and violent and clear — incomparable. The goal, the dream, is to live up to his world. To make it worthy. And to expand on it in a truthful way that audiences will embrace. We’re very lucky that the architects of this new film — the writer, the producers, the studio and most of all, Arnold — who is Conan — are all first-generation fans who either worked on the film or who came along for the ride, cheering from their theater seats opening night. We plan nothing more than to immerse ourselves in the world Milius envisioned from Robert E. Howard’s unforgettable stories and Frank Frazetta’s stunning artwork. I can’t give specifics (nobody likes a spoiler!), but know we are honoring the locales, the religions and the traditions of the ’82 film.

If you're a fan of the original film, I'd recommend checking out a documentary called Milius that dives into the life of the director of that project. It's streaming right now on Netflix, and it gives some good insight into the mindset of the man this sequel is trying to emulate. At this point, The Legend of Conan sounds like it's going to be fantastic...but will the movie be able to live up to its own hype?

Infographic: These Are The Deadliest Marvel Superheroes

0

We often think of superheroes as the kinds of characters who have a line-in-the-sand approach to killing, but the Marvel heroes have always been a little edgier than their DC counterparts in this area. That's not to say that these characters go around indiscriminately slaughtering innocent people or anything, but sometimes the drama that comes from accidentally taking a life (or taking one on purpose after making a tough decision) can provide for excellent storytelling fodder for the weeks, months, or years that follow. The people at MorphSuits have created an infographic of the murderers of the Marvel universe, and looking this over, I was surprised to see some of the statistics here on some of these characters. The people with the most kills aren't that surprising, but there were a few that caused me to raise my eyebrow.
